Wisconsin Sand Sculpting Festival returns to Manitowoc's Red Arrow Park. Admission is free this year.

MANITOWOC – The third annual Wisconsin Sand Sculpting Festival is set for July 19-20 at Red Arrow Park and Beach in Manitowoc. The two-day event features a semi-pro sand sculpting competition, an amateur competition, vendor booths, live performances, food trucks and more. Visit Manitowoc said in a news release that the Wisconsin Sand Sculpting Festival has attracted thousands of visitors to Manitowoc in past years. Six semi-pro sand sculptors will begin creating their masterpieces before the festival opens July 19 and will continue working on them until judging July 20. People can cast their vote for their favorite sculpture and the one who receives the most votes will win the People's Choice Award. Read more: Manitowoc launches Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area. Where is it & how does it work? The 2025 Amateur Sand Sculpting State Championship will kick off when the festival opens at 10 a.m. July 19. The competition is open to both individuals and team. According to the news release, registration is still open, but limited sand plots remain. The news release said sponsors have offset the costs of putting on the event to the extent that an admission cost is no longer necessary. Manitowoc Sunrise Rotary, an event organizing partner, will be accepting donations to fund their charities. MANITOWOC – Three free outdoor movie nights will be held this summer and fall. The first will feature 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' at 8:30 p.m. June 26 at Lighthouse Park, 475 Maritime Drive. The second will be 'Moana 2' at 8:30 p.m. Aug. 7, also at Lighthouse Park. Guests are encouraged to set up their own chairs and blankets on the grass for the movie nights. The Lighthouse Park movie nights will overlook Lake Michigan. The 'Hocus Pocus' showing Oct. 3 kicks off a Halloween-themed weekend in the city. The following day, Oct. 4, Nightmare Off Eighth will be held. MANITOWOC – It's that time of year again! Get ready for a spruced-up S.S. Badger to kick off the 2025 sailing season May 16. The public is invited to attend the maiden voyage celebration to welcome the popular Lake Michigan car ferry as it makes its return from Ludington, Michigan, to Manitowoc. The S.S. Badger soon will be making its way back from Door County. The ferry was placed into dry dock this spring for repairs. The 410-foot ship headed to Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay in April for a propeller shaft bearing repair and is expected to return to Michigan soon. Lakeview Drive in Manitowoc. Festivities will include special guests and entertainment, including the Lincoln High School marching band; alpacas from LondonDairy Alpacas; the Red Hatters; and local elementary school students. Lunch will be available for purchase from area food trucks, including China Wok Bubble Tea, Nina's Pita Hut and Vue's Thai Street Food. There will also be free Hartman's Bakery treats courtesy of Visit Manitowoc while supplies last. The S.S. Badger will operate from May 16 through Oct. 12. Regular overnight crossings begin June 20 and end Sept. 1. In addition to the sailings between Ludington and Manitowoc, four Manitowoc shoreline cruise dates are scheduled along Lake Michigan — in the afternoon on June 14, July 19, Aug. 2 and Aug. 16.
