Prayagraj: The Allahabad High Court has granted anticipatory bail to an Azamgarh man accused of being part of gang that committed cyber fraud worth Rs 95 crore.
The Azamgarh police had recently busted the gang that committed cyber fraud by organising an online game Cricket Buzz.
The gang used to lure people to log on to a website through WhatsApp, Telegram and Facebook by promising to double or triple the money through online games/tasks and then transferred their invested money to different accounts.
An FIR was lodged at Cyber Crime police station at Azamgarh under various sections of BNS and of Public Gambling Act and IT Act.
Later, the police arrested 7 persons in this connection from Varanasi and other places.
The petitioner Vivek Jaiswal moved an anticipatory bail application apprehending his arrest in this case. He alleged that he has been falsely implicated and there is every likelihood that he would be arrested.
It also came to light that the charge sheet has not been filed against the petitioner, though it had names of other co-accused.
The state counsel opposed the petition, saying that there was sufficient evidence against the applicant.
