Source: X O n Sunday, the beachgoers in Portugal experienced a spectacular and unusual weather event as a huge roll cloud rolled in from the Atlantic Ocean, leaving scores of bathers in awe. The unusual atmospheric structure, which had the appearance of a massive horizontal ocean wave, rolled menacingly across the sky and was preceded by powerful gusts of wind, making for a breathtaking spectacle. The massive roll cloud, which is usually seen near moving storm fronts, amazed both residents and tourists on the coast. Rare 'roll cloud' formation in the city of Portugal goes viral The stunning roll cloud was captured on video and shared on X (formerly Twitter) by the account Volcaholic, quickly going viral. The video shows the tube-like cloud front approaching the seaside town in northern Portugal Póvoa de Varzim. This enchanting video sparked a wave of online reactions with users expressing amazement of the rare sight. Many compared the cloud to a giant tsunami or a science fiction scene, while others praised nature's sheer power and unpredictability. Meteorologists noted that such clouds, though unusual, can form under specific coastal atmospheric conditions. "Incredible roll cloud in Póvoa de Varzim, Portugal yesterday..." Watch : What are roll clouds and how do they form Roll clouds are a rare atmospheric phenomenon and part of a larger category known as arcus clouds. The roll clouds are horizontal, cylindrical in shape and appear to 'roll' along the sky like a tube unlike the typical storm clouds. The roll clouds usually form under very specific conditions as explained by meteorologists: Warm, dry air ascends quickly because of strong surface heating (such as in a heatwave). This rising air collides with cooler, more humid sea breezes coming from the ocean. The difference between air masses produces turbulence and condensation and thus results in the roll-shaped cloud. Roll clouds are completely unrelated to seismic activity or tidal waves though they look dramatic and sometimes resemble giant tsunami waves, The roll cloud phenomenon occurred at the same time as a vicious heatwave that was affecting mainland Portugal and most of Western Europe. Record-breaking temperatures have raged, growing weather instability along the coastline. Euro News reports that extreme heat is believed to have influenced the creation of the roll cloud, as hot air inside collided with cool Atlantic air. Are roll clouds dangerous? The roll clouds are visually intense and capable of generating strong winds; they themselves are not inherently dangerous. However, they can be accompanied by sudden gusts, minor turbulence, or shifting weather conditions. Experts assure that despite their unusual appearance, roll clouds do not indicate any natural disaster or tsunami risk. WATCH: Truck Dangles Mid-Air From Collapsed China Bridge With Driver Inside, Terrifying Video Goes Viral
A terrifying incident in China's southwestern Guizhou province has captivated global attention after a cargo truck was left precariously dangling from a collapsed highway bridge, its front cabin suspended mid-air with the driver inside. The dramatic scene, captured on video, unfolded on Tuesday morning, June 24, following a landslide triggered by torrential rains. The bridge, one of the Xiamen–Chengdu Expressway in Zunyi city (namely the Houzihe Grand Bridge), collapsed under the sheer force of the landslide. People posted clips of the accident on X (formerly Twitter), which has since gone viral, having been viewed over 42,000 times and elicited gasps around the globe. The driver of the truck, You Guochun, explained his terrifying experience to Shanghai Eye. "When the front of my truck approached the part that subsequently collapsed, I sensed the ground drop slightly. I slammed on the brakes right away, but the momentum pushed the truck on. In an instant, the whole bridge ahead of me was gone. I was frightened and just froze." A landslide caused part of a bridge on the Xiamen-Chengdu Expressway in Guizhou province, China, to collapse early Tuesday. It happened around 7:40 am as a truck was crossing, but the driver was rescued by emergency crews. No casualties were reported. Firefighters expertly positioned a ladder on the roof of the lorry and led Guochun to safety with caution. No one was injured in the horrific accident, according to miraculous accounts. Later videos revealed locals, railway officials, and police scrambling to deal with the angry driver once he had been rescued, with one showing him screaming in Hindi, "open my hands" after his hands were bound. The video evoked a flurry of outraged reactions on social media. "Nature's power is no joke," one of them said, while another one replied in awe, "Holyyyy cow." Although the first viral video only indicated one truck stuck on the fallen portion, officials later reported that three other cars were found under the rubble. Luckily, authorities added that no one was in any of the cars during the collapse. Investigations on the extent of damage and the exact reason behind the bridge collapse are still being conducted against the background of continued heavy rains in the area.

Rare 'dust devil' spotted in Manchester city centre
Manchester was left at a standstill yesterday after a 'dust devil' ripped through the city centre. The weather phenomenon, which to many looked like a tornado, ripped through Great Ancoats Street on Saturday afternoon, with a 30-metre-high swirling column of dust stopping traffic. This incident is known as a 'dust devil', which is caused by irregularities caused by temperature contrasts on different surfaces around which then causes rotation of the air. Wow! Dust devil in Manchester UK today...🌪️ 📹 @riding_adam — Volcaholic 🌋 (@volcaholic1) May 10, 2025 In a video shared on social media, an onlooker said: ''What the...? What the hell? There is a tornado in the middle of Manchester... that's crazy.' When combined with dust and debris, you can get a column of air, which is commonly much smaller than tornadoes. The Met Office describes a dust devil on its website, stating: "This phenomenon, most commonly known today as dust devils, is an upward spiralling, dust-filled vortex of air that may vary in height from a few feet to over 1,000. "They are usually several metres in diameter at the base, then narrowing for a short distance before expanding again. They mainly occur in desert and semi-arid areas, where the ground is dry and high surface temperatures produce strong updrafts. "The initial rotation may be caused by irregularities in the surface. Unlike tornadoes, dust devils grow upwards from the ground, rather than down from clouds. 'In the stronger dust devils, a cumulus cloud can be seen at the top of the rising column of warm air. 'They only last a few minutes because cool air is sucked into the base of the rising vortex, cooling the ground and cutting off its heat supply."
