Volvo CE to divest SDLG stake to Lingong Group fund
Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) has agreed to sell its 70% stake in Shandong Lingong Construction Machinery Co (SDLG) to a fund predominantly owned by Lingong Group (LGG) for Skr8bn ($826m). The deal is expected to be completed in the second half (H2) of 2025, pending regulatory approvals and other conditions. It is anticipated to positively impact Volvo CE's operating income by Skr1bn at closing, though this is subject to currency fluctuations. However, it will also result in a negative tax impact of Skr1.6bn, similarly affected by exchange rate changes. The potential positive effect on operating income will be excluded from adjusted operating income. In 2024, SDLG contributed approximately 2% to Volvo Group's turnover, with a negligible effect on the group's operating income. Volvo CE acquired its majority stake in SDLG in 2006, with LGG as a minority shareholder, to gain access to China's domestic construction equipment market. 'The SDLG collaboration has been successful, but for strategic reasons Volvo and LGG now believe it would be mutually beneficial to pursue independent business strategies,' Volvo CE stated. Post-transaction, Volvo CE will focus on offering Volvo-branded products and services to targeted customer segments in China such as mining, quarry and aggregates, and heavy infrastructure. The company aims to provide tailored solutions to meet specific customer needs while developing a sustainable distribution strategy in China's competitive market. China will continue to serve as a key production and development hub for both the domestic and export markets, leveraging Volvo CE's excavator production facility in Shanghai, operational since 2002, and recently announced new production lines. Volvo CE also plans to enhance its utilisation of China's supplier ecosystem, maintaining the country's role as a critical part of its global value chain. "Volvo CE to divest SDLG stake to Lingong Group fund" was originally created and published by World Construction Network, a GlobalData owned brand. VE Commercial Vehicles sales surges 7.2% with 6,758 units in May
VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd. (VECV), a joint venture between Volvo Group and Eicher Motors , reported a total sales volume of 7,402 units in May 2025, registering a 7.3per cent growth compared to 6,901 units sold in May 2024. The performance was primarily driven by the Eicher-branded trucks and buses, which sold 7,258 units in May 2025, an 8per cent increase from 6,719 units sold in the same month last year. In the domestic commercial vehicle (CV) market, Eicher sold 6,758 units, up 7.2per cent from 6,304 units in May 2024, reflecting steady demand across key segments. Strong Export Performance VECV also saw a robust performance on the exports front, with 501 units sold in May 2025 compared to 415 units a year earlier — a 20.7per cent growth, underlining the company's expanding global reach and strong overseas demand for Eicher-branded vehicles. Volvo Brand Records Decline In contrast, Volvo Trucks and Buses reported a decline in performance, with 144 units sold in May 2025 compared to 182 units in May 2024 — a 20.9per cent de-growth. The decline is attributed to cyclical trends in the premium segment and slower project-related demand. Despite the dip in Volvo-branded sales, VECV's overall growth in May 2025 highlights resilient domestic demand and expanding export momentum, reinforcing its position as a key player in India's CV industry. The company continues to focus on innovation, expanding product offerings, and strengthening its presence across markets.

Eicher-branded trucks and buses, which form the core of VECV's business, saw sales of 7,258 units in May 2025, up from 6,719 units in the same period last year, reflecting an 8.0% year-on-year growth. This performance was driven by strong demand in the domestic market, particularly in the light and medium-duty (LMD) truck and bus segments. The domestic sales stood at 6,758 units, showing a 7.2% increase from 6,304 units in May 2024. The event aims to further cultivate Malaysia's rapidly growing padel community and solidify its standing as the nation's largest padel tournament. Running every weekend from 21 June until the grand finals on 27 July, the tournament is expected to draw as many as 320 participants, ranging from new players just entering the sport to seasoned enthusiasts who have competed in regional circuits. This year's edition is a significant evolution of the inaugural tournament, reflecting Volvo's continued support for padel as a socially engaging and fast-paced sport. The brand sees padel as a natural extension of its values–community, innovation, inclusivity, and wellness. Patricia Yaw, Marketing Operations and Public Relations Director at Volvo Car Malaysia, emphasised that the Volvo name has become closely linked with padel in Malaysia. The company's intention, she said, is to make this year's tournament even more impactful by offering new match styles, attractive prizes, and curated experiences for both amateur and experienced players. Additional initiatives include professional-led coaching clinics and increased court time, particularly for new players eager to sharpen their skills and connect with others in the padel community. Participants can expect exclusive benefits including complimentary pre-tournament coaching sessions, a Volvo-branded sports kit, premium access to the finals, and exclusive hospitality experiences. Sean U'ren-Szeto, General Manager of Joy Division Padel, expressed enthusiasm about partnering with the tournament. He noted the exceptional talent among Malaysian players who have trained at the club and competed regionally, and highlighted the importance of giving local players access to higher levels of competition and skill development. With coaching teams now operating across three locations—including the recently launched Megah club in Petaling Jaya—PadelKu is committed to elevating competitive standards and ensuring players are well-prepared for tournament-level gameplay. Registration for the Volvo Padel Open 2025 opens on 3 June and will close on 3 July, or earlier if all player slots are filled.
