The arrests were carried out by a team from the Ambegaon police station, led by Senior Police Inspector Sharad Zine. The officer said that a special branch of the Pune police was alerted by their counterpart in Hyderabad about a woman from Ambegaon who frequently visited Bangladesh. The police found that the woman obtained an Indian passport in July 2022. "We found that the woman was not staying at that address. We traced the woman to another address. We also found one more woman and a man in that flat. The woman told us that she is an Indian national and showed us her Aadhaar card and PAN card. Another woman, aged 38, also showed us her documents and told us that the man is her husband," the officer said. He said that when the police team carried out searches in the flat, they found a Bangladeshi passport belonging to the 38-year-old woman. "Both the women were sisters," he said. The officer said that investigations revealed that the 30-year-old woman came to India in 2018, and her sister came to India in 2004. Both sisters were involved in prostitution. "The elder sister married a man from the Nalanda district in Bihar. The latter helped the sisters obtain Aadhaar cards, PAN cards, and Voter IDs by submitting fake documents," the officer said. He said that the younger sister obtained the Indian passport and frequently travelled to Bangladesh and other countries. "We have arrested the Bangladeshi women for staying illegally and the man for helping them obtain the documents," he said.
