Two men arrested in Oldham as part of historical child sexual abuse investigation

Two men have been arrested as part of an investigation into historical child sex abuse allegations. The men, aged 38 and 40, are being questioned on suspicion of raping children in Oldham between 2011 and 2014, which police believe involved a number of girls. Greater Manchester Police says it is working closely with the victims and survivors and that the activity was planned after detectives identified a potential survivor and approached her about the case. The force adds that detectives from the CSE Major Incident Team, which is responsible for investigating the most serious and complex cases involving offences against vulnerable young people, are investigating the allegations, and that two properties in Oldham have been targeted. Two men who were arrested are being questioned as part of Operation Sherwood, a dedicated investigation into abuse police believe a number of girls experienced in Oldham between 2011 and 2014. Assistant Chief Constable Steph Parker, lead for Protecting Vulnerable People, said: 'We are working closely with the victims and survivors at the heart of these investigations. They've placed their faith in us, and we must get this right for them. 'We will not allow the passage of time to be a barrier, and while these are complex cases, we are doing everything we can to piece together evidence and build strong case files to help secure the justice they deserve. 'Protecting children is our priority, and we are committed to finding anyone who has harmed vulnerable young people and holding them to account. 'Within the last three months, we have arrested twelve suspects as part of Operation Sherwood. 'These investigations have been ramping up and this momentum will continue as we trace, find, and lock up suspects.' Greater Manchester Police say that if anyone has been raped or sexually assaulted, or if anyone knows of someone who has, they should not "suffer in silence" but report it to the police, or a support agency.
