Teenager pleads guilty to murder of grandmother Vyleen White during horrific stabbing in Redbank Plains carpark
A teenager has pleaded guilty to violently stabbing a grandmother in the underground carpark of a shopping centre west of Brisbane while trying to carjack the elderly woman. Vyleen Joan White's killer was clad in prison greens and towered over Corrective Services officers as he was led into the Supreme Court of Brisbane on Tuesday as the beloved 70-year-old's family – including her husband Victor – watched on. Ms White, a former religious instruction teacher, was stabbed to death by a 16-year-old in the underground carpark at Town Square Redbank Plains Shopping Centre about 6.10pm on February 3, 2024. Ms White's vehicle was found about 20 minutes away from the scene. The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was committed to stand trial on multiple charges, including murder, following a committal hearing in March this year. On Tuesday, he entered pleas of guilty to charges of murder and unlawful use of a motor vehicle as well as three counts of stealing. They related to thefts that occurred at a McDonald's at Bellbird Park and a Liquorland and 7/11 store on the same day he killed Ms White. Asked if he wanted to say anything in response to the charges, the teenager said: 'No, Your Honour.' The court was told a presentence report was required to be prepared under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act ahead of a sentencing in November. The teenager was remanded in custody.
