Now, WhatsApp lets you generate chat wallpapers using Meta AI: How it works
WhatsApp is introducing a new feature that allows users to generate AI-powered custom wallpapers for their chats using Meta AI. As per WABetaInfo, the feature is part of the latest WhatsApp beta update for Android and will be available to more users in the coming weeks. AI-generated wallpapers for WhatsApp chats The option to create customised chat backgrounds will be located in the chat theme settings. Users will be able to either apply a generated wallpaper across all chats or set distinct visuals for individual conversations. Initially, WhatsApp will display a curated selection of AI-generated wallpapers. If users want something more personalised, they can input a text prompt describing their preferred visual style or mood. For instance, prompts like 'a foggy mountain forest' or 'a bright moon night' will prompt Meta AI to create multiple image variations. Personalisation and flexibility Users can browse through the AI-generated wallpapers and select one immediately, or refine the design further by editing the prompt. This gives them control over: Colour palette Visual theme Artistic style The feature aims to offer a more immersive chat experience, especially for users looking to go beyond WhatsApp's standard static wallpaper options. Useful for themed conversations According to the report, dynamic wallpapers could be especially useful for group chats, such as those created for event planning, travel, or occasions. By using prompts aligned with the chat's purpose, users can tailor the visual tone to reflect the context—adding a creative layer to conversations. This feature marks another step in WhatsApp's broader strategy to integrate personalisation and AI tools, enriching the everyday messaging experience.

WhatsApp for Android to get iOS-style document scanning feature soon: Report
WhatsApp is reportedly developing a new feature for Android users that will allow them to scan documents directly within the app, a capability that has been available to iOS users for several months. According to feature tracker WABetaInfo, the update was spotted in version 2.25.18.29 of the WhatsApp beta for Android, although it remains inactive as the feature is still under development. Notably, the forthcoming tool is expected to simplify document sharing by enabling users to scan physical documents through their smartphone's camera without switching to another app. When launched, the Scan Document option will appear alongside the existing 'Browse documents' and 'Choose from gallery' options in the attachment menu. Tapping on it will trigger the device's camera, offering the ability to manually or automatically capture pages. Once the pages have been scanned, WhatsApp will likely compile them into a PDF file, which users can send to their contacts, forward to themselves, or store on their device for later use, adds the report. This move is anticipated to benefit users who frequently share physical paperwork and want a more integrated experience within the messaging platform. For now, Android users can use the built-in document scanning feature found in the Google Drive app as an alternative until WhatsApp rolls out its native functionality. In addition to the document scanner, the Meta-owned instant messaging app is also trialling an artificial intelligence-based feature that summarises messages. Some users running beta version 2.25.18.18 or later have reported access to a new "Summarise with Meta AI" button, which appears in chats with a substantial number of unread messages. This feature aims to provide users with quick overviews of lengthy conversations using Meta's AI technology. Both features are expected to roll out gradually, first to beta testers, before eventually becoming available to all users on the stable Android release.

WhatsApp will soon use Meta AI to summarise unread messages: Here's how it works
WhatsApp, the Meta-owned instant messaging platform with more than a billion users worldwide, is undoubtedly the most popular instant messaging app in the world. Recently, the app developers started testing a new functionality that lets users quickly catch up with unread messages by offering them a summary of chats using Meta AI. According to a new report by WABetaInfo, the website that keeps track of new and upcoming WhatsApp features, the new functionality is currently available for those on WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.18.18, which is available on the Google Play Store. The report also states that these AI-generated message summaries are designed with privacy in mind, meaning all your messages will remain private and protected and work with both individual and group chats. As can be seen in the image below, select beta testers can enable Private Processing from the app settings to get AI-generated message summaries. Once enabled, users will be greeted with a dedicated button that will appear when a user gets a certain number of new messages in their conversations. When users tap the new button, WhatsApp will send a request to the Private Processing system, which will then return a summarised version of unread messages without storing any data. Like Apple's Private Cloud Compute, Private Processing is a system which ensures that the data is processed without being sent to WhatsApp or Meta servers. Also, developers say no one, including Meta, can access or read the processed data and that user requests remain anonymous and cannot be linked back to their identity. Also, the new AI-generated message summary feature is entirely optional, so users who are not comfortable sharing their data can choose to opt out of it. Apart from message summaries, another AI-powered feature currently in development is Writing Help, which, as the name suggests, allows users to rewrite or rephrase their messages by changing things like tone.

Soon, WhatsApp will offer AI-powered summaries of unread messages: Details
WhatsApp is testing a new AI-driven feature that enables users to privately generate summaries of unread messages in both personal and group chats. As per WABetaInfo, the feature is backed by Meta AI but operates within a system called Private Processing, which is designed to safeguard user privacy. Earlier this year, Meta announced its plans to introduce cloud-based AI features on WhatsApp, including tools to summarise unread chats and provide writing suggestions. These capabilities now appear to be entering the beta testing stage. According to WABetaInfo, the message summary function is currently available to a limited group of Android beta testers, with a wider rollout anticipated in the coming weeks. AI summary for WhatsApp Unread Messages: How it works The report explains that once Private Processing is enabled in the app's settings, users will see a special button when they have multiple unread messages. Tapping this button sends a secure, private request to the Private Processing system, which then generates a summary of the unread content. The report highlights that this process remains fully private, with no user data being stored. Private Processing ensures that all data is handled locally on the user's device, without access by WhatsApp, Meta, or any third-party entity. User interactions remain anonymous and unlinkable to personal identity, thanks to encrypted connections and secure routing. This functionality can be particularly useful for quickly catching up on long threads in active group chats, offering a brief overview without needing to scroll through every message—while keeping user privacy intact. The AI message summary is entirely optional. Users who prefer not to use it can simply ignore the unread messages button or disable the feature via Private Processing settings. Additionally, users with Advanced Chat Privacy enabled will not have access to this summary function. What is Private Processing? Meta previously introduced Private Processing as a way to protect user data while handling AI requests in the cloud. The system, described as a confidential computing framework, mirrors Apple's Private Cloud Compute (PCC), which was introduced last year to support Apple Intelligence while preserving privacy. According to Meta, Private Processing enables secure handling of AI-based tasks like message summarisation and writing suggestions, without granting access to personal data. It creates a protected virtual cloud environment where tasks are performed without Meta—or anyone else—seeing the actual message content.
