Richmond County Marshal's Office annual fan drive

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – The heat is only picking up, and the Richmond County Marshal's office is helping combat it. The Richmond County Marshal's Office is hosting its Annual Fan Drive to keep residents cool as summer approaches. These fans are to help Richmond County residents beat the heat. 'In the summer months, the temperatures rise, and we know that the elderly, low-income families, and individuals with medical conditions are at risk,' said Lieutenant Monica Meyers, Richmond County Marchal's Office. The Marchal's Office is partnering up with the Augusta Dream Center to distribute the Fans around June 26th. 'That we care about our people and that we want to help the citizens as much as we can because you've heard the marshals say that ever encounter with a citizen is an opportunity to make an impact, a positive impact,' said Meyers. During a time when utility bills are rising, turning the AC on can significantly increase your bill, and they want to help families who may not be able to afford a high bill. They are encouraging the community to donate new box fans or monetary donations to purchase fans. 'A lot of research shows that every summer, we have many of the elderly who will not turn on their AC units to cool them off because they're trying to lower the cost of their electric bill. So, it's important for us to help those people that are trying to lower their bills that low-income families who may not afford certain resources,' said Meyers. Donations can be dropped off at the substation for the Richmond County Marshal's office in Augusta at 3050 Deans Bridge Road until June 23rd. You can contact 706-821-2368 if you have questions.
