Malaysia's unity shines through diversity at Wesley School event
KUALA LUMPUR: Unity is not about uniformity but standing together despite differences, said Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai. Speaking at Wesley Methodist School Kuala Lumpur International's (WMSKLI) Unity Day 2025, he emphasised how Malaysia's strength lies in its diversity. 'Nothing is more meaningful than appreciating the beauty of Malaysia, a country enriched by its diversity. We must focus on what unites us, not what divides us,' he said. Wong stressed shared values like compassion, respect, and kindness as the foundation of national unity, urging Malaysians to reject divisive narratives. Human Resources Minister Steven Sim officiated the event, joined by Methodist Council of Education (MCOE) private education director Lim Kah Cheng and WMSKLI principal Wong Chee Kheon. Sim launched a bilingual anthology, *The Recipe for Malaysia's Success*, recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records as the first school-published polygenre work on unity. The book features pantun, syair, poems, and short stories in Malay and English, contributed by students, educators, and notable figures like Senator Datuk Seri Prof Emeritus Dr Awang Sariyan and social activist Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye. Lim noted the project counters stereotypes about international schools, proving their role in fostering patriotism and Malay language proficiency. - Bernama

KL school gets into Malaysia Book of Records for publishing unity book
KUALA LUMPUR: A book about unity has been recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records for being the first of its kind published by a school. The book, titled "Unity: The Recipe for Malaysia's Success", was a collection of various forms of literature including poems, short stories, among others, written mainly by the students of Wesley Methodist School Kuala Lumpur (International) (WMSKLI) and 26 local and international artistes and prominent figures. It was launched by Human Resources Minister Steven Sim at WMSKLI on July 8. WMSKLI principal Wong Chee Kheon said the book was aimed at promoting the spirit of unity among the public. "It will soon be available for sale in bookstores, but for now, we would like to focus on distributing it to schools first," he said in a press conference after the launch of the book. Methodist Council of Education private education director Lim Kah Cheng, who was also present, said the book would be distributed to all the 53 Methodist schools in Malaysia for free. "It could be used as a teaching and learning material by the teachers and students. "We will be launching another book about patriotism at the Ipoh Methodist Girls' School in Perak on Aug 23. "It would also be a compilation of works by students, focusing on patriotism," he said, adding that the book is currently still a work-in-progress.
