Sophie Cunningham Has One Word After Her Comments Spark Backlash

Sophie Cunningham Has One Word After Her Comments Spark Backlash originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The WNBA's recent expansion news was generally met with excitement by the basketball world. Cleveland, Detroit and Philadelphia have all been given expansion teams, which will join the WNBA within the next five years. Advertisement With Toronto and Portland set to join the league next season, the number of teams in the WNBA will increase to 18 by 2030. Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham, however, wasn't exactly thrilled with the news. On Tuesday, the veteran shared a hot take on this historic development. While Cunningham is happy with the expansion process and how it will open up numerous new opportunities, she has made her opinion on the latest expansion cities clear. "I do think that Miami would have been a great one," she said. "Everyone loves Florida. Nashville is an amazing city. Kansas City, amazing opportunity... But man, I don't know how excited people are to be going to Detroit or Cleveland." The cities of Detroit and Cleveland both clapped back at the Fever vet. Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert called out Cunningham as well, while WNBA legend Lisa Leslie revealed her disappointment in Cunningham's statement. Advertisement The 6-foot-1 guard hasn't officially addressed the criticism yet, but she appears to be unbothered by all the backlash. On Tuesday night, Cunningham took to TikTok to post her latest dance video as she celebrated the Fever's historic Commissioner's Cup championship win against the Minnesota Lynx. In the comments section, a fan asked Cunningham about the difference between Detroit, Cleveland and Indianapolis, which is where she currently resides. Cunningham got brutally honest with her one-word response. "Nothing," she replied. The fan, along with several other social media users, appeared to point out through the question that Indianapolis isn't exactly the most exciting city in America. Based on her response, it seems that Cunningham agrees with that notion. Advertisement Whatever the case might be, this certainly won't change Cunningham's loyalty to her team. At the same time, while it has only been five months since she took her talents to Indiana, there's no denying that she's firmly established herself as a true fan favorite among the Fever faithful. Caitlin Clark is shocked as teammate performs lewd sexual act on her during locker-room live stream

Caitlin Clark was left stunned after one of her Indiana Fever teammates performed a lewd sexual act on her while celebrating their WNBA Commissioner's Cup triumph. Despite Clark being ruled out of Tuesday night's final with a groin injury, Indiana still ran out 74-59 winners over the Minnesota Lynx to claim the trophy, with Natasha Howard putting up a game-high 16 points in the victory. And after getting their hands on silverware, Fever players headed back to the locker room for a wild party which caused quite a stir online. Clark, who has been out of action for the past week, was at the center of the most viral moment from the locker-room festivities after joining her teammates to celebrate the victory on Tuesday night. The reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year was leaning over to talk to the camera during an Instagram live recording when Fever guard Sydney Colson snuck up from behind and jokingly tried to dry hump her. 'Woah bro,' Clark said as she jumped up in shock before laughing, 'absolutely not, no thank you!' Cunningham has become a fan favorite in recent weeks after coming to Clark's rescue when tempers flared during last month's game against the Connecticut Sun. After her star teammate was brutally shoved to the ground by Connecticut's Marina Mabrey following an altercation with Jacy Sheldon, the Fever guard was later praised for committing a hard and blatant foul of her own on the latter. 'It was a buildup for a couple of years now of [referees] just not protecting the star player of the WNBA,' Cunningham said after the game about Clark. 'And so at the end of the day, I'm going to protect my teammates. That's what I do. And I'm a team player, so it's all good.' Tuesday night's WNBA Cup win means Cunningham, Clark and Co will share a $500,000 prize pool while also taking home the trophy. Indiana last clinched the WNBA Championship back in 2012, meaning it was the first time the franchise has been able to celebrate a title win for over a decade.
