WNBA Fans Loving Caitlin Clark's Message For Sabrina Ionescu
WNBA Fans Loving Caitlin Clark's Message For Sabrina Ionescu originally appeared on The Spun. Caitlin Clark wasn't able to play in this year's All-Star game due to a groin injury. It was a crushing blow to every fan who showed up to Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Saturday night. Unfortunately, injuries have plagued Clark this season. Not only has she suffered a groin injury twice in the past month, she has missed time due to a quad strain. Just a few days ago, she received some words of encouragement from fellow All-Star guard Sabrina Ionescu. "I've been able to talk to her a lot through this process," Ionescu said. "Honestly, I went through something kind of similar in my career. My first year I didn't play due to injury, and then in my second year I had a few soft-tissue injuries. You look back and it's kind of a blessing in disguise because you're able to just learn and grow and understand it's just part of your journey." Ionescu also gave Clark credit for being the face of the league, telling reporters "she means a lot more to the game than just showing up and playing." If Clark was healthy this past weekend, she would've shared a backcourt with Ionescu. That being said, it's possible we'll see them join forces in the future. On Sunday night, Ionescu shared photos from All-Star weekend in Indy. Her post received this comment from Clark: "looking real natural in that locker room." There's no guarantee Clark and Ionescu will be teammates, but fans are certainly hoping that'll happen. "Future teammates in Indiana," one fan replied. "Splash sisters," another fan said. "Please team up," a third fan wrote. Ionescu has been outstanding for the New York Liberty, earning All-Star honors four times since 2020. It's hard to envision a world where she leaves the Big Apple for Indiana, but Clark might just be an excellent recruiter. WNBA Fans Have 2-Word Nickname For Sophie Cunningham
WNBA Fans Have 2-Word Nickname For Sophie Cunningham originally appeared on The Spun. Sophie Cunningham, the Indiana Fever guard, has been trending on social media for a couple of weeks now. It started last month, during a game between the Fever and the Connecticut Sun. The regular season game featured a skirmish between Caitlin Clark and multiple members of the Sun. Clark was hit in the eye by Sun guard Jacy Sheldon and then decked to the ground by another player. Later in the game, Cunningham retaliated, bringing Sheldon to the ground in a hard foul. She was ejected from the game. Advertisement Cunningham has since become somewhat of a lightning rod among WNBA fans. Fans of Clark and the Fever love her, while opposing teams seem to hate her. Cunningham didn't help herself with comments on the WNBA's expansion cities - Detroit, Cleveland and Philadelphia - on Tuesday. "You want to listen to your players, too," Cunningham said. "Where do they want to play? Where are they going to get excited to play and draw fans? I do think that Miami would have been a great [location]. Nashville is an amazing city. Kansas City, amazing opportunity. "I'm not so sure what the thought process is there, but at the end of the day, you want to make sure that you're not expanding our league too fast. I think that that's also another thing. It's kind of a hard decision-making situation. But man, I don't know how excited people are to be going to Detroit or [Cleveland]." WNBA fans, meanwhile, have come up with a two-word nickname for Cunningham. Advertisement Cunningham, who is rumored to lean right politically, has been nicknamed "MAGA Barbie." "Mind you maga barbie is saying this from indiana," one fan wrote in response to her comments. "These cities are dragging MAGA Barbie," one fan added. "The thought of MAGA barbie getting booed while playing in Detroit if she's still even in the league by then," one fan added. (Photo by Kate Frese/NBAE via Getty Images)Cunningham, 28, doesn't seem to mind the criticism. She's blown up on social media in recent weeks, with more than one million followers on Instagram. As Howard Stern would say, it doesn't matter if the people listening to you are listening because they love you or they hate you. The fact that they care is all that matters. Advertisement That seems to be the case with Cunningham. WNBA Fans Ripping Los Angeles Sparks For 'Inappropriate' Player Photo
WNBA Fans Ripping Los Angeles Sparks For 'Inappropriate' Player Photo originally appeared on The Spun. The Los Angeles Sparks are facing serious backlash from WNBA fans this Tuesday. Leading up to their game against the Seattle Storm, the social media team for the Sparks shared a photo of Sarah Ashlee Barker along with the caption: "Back in front of the home crowd." While there's nothing wrong with that message, the photo that was selected for this graphic was quite odd. Advertisement Despite the fact that they're promoting a WNBA game, the Sparks posted a photo of Barker wearing a revealing black top. Most people assumed the team would use a photo of her in uniform. Over the past few hours, WNBA fans have criticized the Sparks for going down this route. They find it disappointing and highly offensive. May 27, 2025; Los Angeles, California, USA; LA Sparks guard Sarah Ashlee Barker (13) reacts in the first half against the Atlanta Dream at Lee-Imagn Images. "Y'all need to have more control over these organizations. I take my daughters to these games and we on here promoting the games with women half naked? This is embarrassing," one fan declared. "As a women I'm disappointed by the each their own…don't at me," a second fan wrote. Advertisement "What exactly are we promoting here," a third fan commented. "The Sparks really want men to watch them, lol. It's getting embarrassing," another person wrote on X. "Sexualizing your players to market for the male gaze is actually insane," a social media user said. Barker, a rookie from Alabama, is averaging 4.6 points per game for the Sparks this season. The Sparks will try to improve to 5-8 when they take on the Storm this evening. Tipoff is set for 10 p.m. ET on NBA TV. Do you think the Sparks crossed the line with this graphic?
