WWE Night of Champions is only a day away from emanating from the Kingdom Arena in the rich city of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. WWE built much hype for the Premium Live Event in the same venue by presenting the June 27th edition of Friday Night SmackDown. While two titles managed to stay with their respective titleholders, a major championship changed hands following a highly spectacular showdown that captivated the Riyadh audience. Which WWE Championship changed hands on SmackDown before Night of Champions 2025 Premium Live Event? On the June 27th edition of WWE SmackDown, Zelina Vega was scheduled to defend her WWE Women's United States Championship against Giulia. The international sensation had been having multiple encounters with Vega over the last few weeks since she was called up from WWE NXT. After Vega defeated Pipe Niven in a match with Giulia's help, she immediately turned on her and held the star-spangled prize high. This clearly hinted at her intentions, and the match was made official for SmackDown taking place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The duo clashed in an epic encounter that was a thrilling sight to witness. The Beautiful Madness unleashed her fury on the defending champion, who fought through it valiantly. From stunning drops to power-packed moves, Vega and Giulia stole the show. Towards the final moments of the title match, Giulia clearly had the upper hand, launching a pair of knee strikes. She put a conclusion to the bout by delivering a Northern Lights Bomb on Zelina Vega and pinned her shoulders to the mat for the three count. With that win, Giulia became the new WWE Women's United States Champion, marking her first singles title on the main roster. It was a sight of similar success being replicated by Giulia that she did when she arrived in NXT last year. While Zelina Vega did her best, her effort ultimately fell short at the hands of The Beautiful Madness. Dominik Mysterio Off Night Of Champions Due To Injury, Per WWE
Dominik Mysterio won't be on hand for this year's Night of Champions, with WWE confirming that Mysterio's match is off due to injury. During Monday's episode of WWE RAW, it was confirmed that by Adam Pearce that Mysterio was injured, and couldn't wrestle at Night of Champions. He told the news to AJ Styles, who was set to face, Mysterio, during the show. The pair were initially set to go at it for Dom's WWE Intercontinental Championship. Advertisement It's currently unclear exactly what injury Mysterio is facing, or how serious it actually is. Pearce told Styles he would be the first to get a shot at the belt when Dominik is healthy, though. More information will likely come forward in the coming days regarding his injury. Karrion Kross will finally step into the spotlight at a premium live event this weekend, as WWE has officially added him to the Night of Champions 2025 card. Despite recent concerns surrounding tensions between the USA and Iran, WWE is moving forward with plans to hold Night of Champions in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. On WWE RAW, it was confirmed that the Intercontinental Championship match between Dominik Mysterio and AJ Styles is cancelled due to Mysterio suffering a rib injury. Advertisement However, while that match was pulled, WWE added a new bout: Karrion Kross vs. Sami Zayn. Kross has been playing mind games with Zayn for months, making him his main target after Zayn's elimination from the King of the Ring tournament on SmackDown. On WWE RAW, Karrion Kross confronted Sami Zayn during a backstage interview. The fans gave Kross a huge reaction, echoing the support he's been receiving at WWE Main Event. Kross mocked and told Zayn he would never become a WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Sami Zayn didn't back down. He hit Kross with a right hand, declared their match official after speaking with Adam Pearce, and told him, 'Tick Tock,' before walking off. Scarlett and Kross laughed it off, with Kross turning to her and confidently saying, 'Got him'. Karrion Kross, who has gained momentum thanks to his recent performances, got emotional after learning WWE booked him for the show. Another Title Match Announced For WWE Night Of Champions
WWE has added another match to this year's Night of Champions, with the WWE United States Championship set to be on the line. During Friday's episode of WWE SmackDown, things got even testier between Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu. In the ring, Solo Sikoa said he feels bad about what happened between him and Fatu over the past few weeks. Fatu made his way out, and after some back and forth, the Sikoa said he did love Jacob.
