Tickets about to drop for blockbuster WWE event in Perth
Fans hoping to see wrestling star and Hollywood actor John Cena in the flesh can secure their spot at RAC Arena when pre-sale tickets go on sale on Monday. Cena will headline the return of WWE to Perth from October 10-13, with three shows scheduled — Friday Night Smackdown, Saturday's Crown Jewel and Monday night RAW. Pre-sale combo tickets for the shows go on sale 1pm June 30, while fans who pre-register will gain early access to tickets. General public combo tickets will be at 1pm Wednesday, July 2. 'This will be the last time fans can see the legendary John Cena live at a WWE event in Australia, with the weekend in Perth part of his global retirement tour,' Tourism Minister Reece Whitby said. 'For over two decades, John Cena has declared 'you can't see me', well Perth, now you can. 'This blockbuster weekend promises an action-packed line up that can't be seen anywhere else in Australia, New Zealand, or South East Asia this year, and tickets are sure to sell out fast.' The State Government won't say how much bringing the wrestling extravaganza to WA is costing taxpayers. But, according to the Government, last year's WWE Elimination Chamber at Optus Stadium attracted 18,000 fans from outside of WA and generated $36.2 million for the local economy. 'Major events are a key part of the Cook Government's tourism strategy, they fill our hotels, boost hospitality and tourism businesses, and encourage visitors to not only come to WA, but to stay longer, and explore further,' Mr Whitby said. This week, WWE superstars Bianca Belair and Montez Ford explored WA's tourism destinations, including Kings Park and Exmouth, exploring the wonders of WA's Coral Coast, promoting the state. With WWE's new global broadcast partnership with Netflix, Western Australia will be seen by hundreds of millions of viewers around the world, showcasing the State to a massive international audience. WWE hasn't yet released details of how much it will cost wrestling fans to attend the Perth events, but at last year's Perth WWE event ringside tickets started at $400. Fans can register for pre-sale tickets here.

WWE megastars John Cena and Hulk Hogan's less than known connection explored
Image via WWE A connection between John Cena and Hulk Hogan might have gone unnoticed by many members of the WWE Universe. WWE has seen many megastars define a generation of talent over the years. Two of those names that have carried the global juggernaut in different eras are Hulk Hogan and John Cena. The Hulkster was the crowning jewel of WWE in the late 1980s and early 1990s who led the fans with his Hulkmania movement. Years later, a kid from West New Bury named John Cena came around and made himself into the flagship star of the company. However, in light of recent events, a less than known connection has now been formed between Cena and Hogan that fans might have not noticed. How are John Cena and Hulk Hogan connected other than being WWE flagship stars of their respective eras? Hulk Hogan left WWE in the mid-1990s to join rival promotion WCW. When he returned to the company in 2002 as a member of the nWo faction, he was 48 years old and even became the WWE Champion . This was Hogan's final run in the company as a full-time performer. John Cena returned to WWE in 2025 for his farewell tour, which will end in December. Interestingly, The Cenation Leader has also made his comeback for his last run in the company at the age of 48 and is also the Undisputed WWE Champion. This has been a highly coincidental yet interesting connection between the two superstars who have led their respective generations. Moreover, the night John Cena began his farewell tour on the debut edition of RAW on Netflix was also the night Hulk Hogan returned to WWE after an extended period. Hogan was heavily booed upon his entrance by the fans in attendance. On the other hand, Cena's farewell tour has been nothing short of memorable moments. The Face that Runs the Place shocked the world by turning heel at the 2025 WWE Elimination Chamber and then went on to win his 17th World Championship from Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41. With his farewell tour having a few more months left, it will be interesting to see if this version of John Cena would confront Hulk Hogan on WWE live television. Hulk Hogan Explains Why John Cena's Heel Turn Fell Short
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Hulk Hogan recently shared his perspective on major happenings within his former company, particularly John Cena's significant character shift. Hogan's own last appearance before a WWE crowd, at the Raw on Netflix premiere, saw him receive a negative reaction while promoting his beer brand. However, his name became relevant again in fan discourse when John Cena turned heel at WWE Elimination Chamber earlier this year. Cena adopting a heel persona for the first time in over twenty years immediately sparked comparisons to Hogan's own landscape-altering heel turn in 1996, which launched the New World Order (nWo) in WCW. Speaking with Forbes, Hogan offered a nuanced take on Cena's turn, beginning with high praise for Cena the performer and person. "First off, John Cena was my favorite wrestler. Let me start there," Hogan stated. "Because I grinded for years, brother, and there was no Rock, no Stone Cold. There was only me for 20-plus years. I saw all the Make-A-Wish kids. I've met with all the station producers, everybody. So John stepped up and really ran with the ball, and he did a really great job. I think he saw more Make-A-Wish kids than anybody's ever seen." Despite holding Cena in such high regard, Hogan felt the storyline execution following Cena's turn didn't capture the magic or momentum of the nWo's formation. "And at the end of the day, when he turned heel—like the [nWo] storyline, like Eric said—we set it up, we set up, we set up, then we delivered." Kris Connor/WireImage/Getty Images More news: WWE News: Steve Austin Reveals Real-Life Vince McMahon Confrontation "And then not only did we deliver, we rolled out with me, Hall and Nash. And that story kept snowballing and snowballing, and we kept getting more evil and more evil." Hogan explained where the Cena storyline lost him, pointing to the lack of immediate follow-through after The Rock's involvement in the turn. "And so for me, watching that story with John Cena, when The Rock did the throat thing, cut his throat, and John Cena turned heel, I expected more of the same. And then John Cena came out and there was no Rock, and I just got disconnected at that point, 'cause I was expecting the characters to keep rolling out like we did," Hogan elaborated. He felt it lacked the overwhelming impact of his own faction's debut: "So I know everybody's got movies and obligations and stuff, but it didn't feel like that big tidal wave coming at you. Like when the nWo took over, man, I even hate to say the word, we just cleaned house and beat everybody's a**, and we just killed it. All the babyfaces were crying and complaining, and it got really ugly. We were so powerful with that trio." More WWE News: For more on WWE, head to Newsweek Sports.

The Rock explains his baffling absence from WrestleMania 41: 'I made the call, I don't want to be involved'
The Rock has some explanations for his absence from WrestleMania 41. (Photo by Georgiana Dallas/WWE via Getty Images) (WWE via Getty Images) Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has been a glaring omission from the Undisputed WWE title picture since aiding in John Cena's heel turn at WWE Elimination Chamber, to the point where his bizarre absence from WrestleMania 41 was one of the primary talking points coming out of WWE's big weekend. Advertisement According to the WWE Hall of Famer, when speaking Tuesday on The Pat McAfee Show, The Rock never wanted to continue his involvement in the biggest angle in recent professional wrestling history. "When we were moving forward with John and this idea of him getting crowned at WrestleMania and becoming 17, and being a heel champion, I knew then the best thing for 'The Final Boss,'" Johnson said. "We've established this idea of Cody [Rhodes'] soul. We can always come back to it. I did feel, I made the call, I don't want to be involved in that. Let 'The Final Boss' step back into the shadows. Let all the spotlight go to John, let it go to Cody. Let's not make it about Cody's soul or John's soul. Let's let them do what they do." Cena ultimately dethroned the now-former champion Rhodes in the main event of WrestleMania 41, Night 2 in Las Vegas this past Sunday. The win made Cena the new WWE recordholder for most world title wins, surpassing Ric Flair. The storyline between both parties began thanks to Johnson's sudden reemergence after February's Royal Rumble to seemingly threaten Rhodes, wanting "his soul." However, after Rhodes rejected Johnson, Cena appeared to join forces with Johnson after he won his Elimination Chamber match. Advertisement That was the final time The Rock has been seen on WWE television. "I called John after Elimination Chamber, spoke to him, called Cody, and I said, 'I think 'The Final Boss' work is done. We've established it,'" Johnson said. "We just pulled off the greatest angle in the history of professional wrestling, other than Hulk Hogan turning heel back in the '90s. I said, 'This is amazing. We have six weeks. Now, let's build. You guys go and crush it. I'll be right there with you, and I'm always here if you need me, but I think it's best for 'The Final Boss' not to be involved in that finish. Six weeks to plan for that.' "I loved the finish of [Sunday's] match. I would have finessed things a little differently in how they got there, but that's just me creatively. There are a lot of minds in the room. That's my thought, but still, ultimately, the bottom line was I loved John getting 17. I never had a concern about John pulling this off. My thoughts were always to Cody because of what we've established with him and his story, and the kind of babyface he is. So, if done right, and I think if finessed right and nuanced right, down the road, that guy not only has an incredible babyface run again as champion, but also just an unheard of rise as a heel down the road." Cena and Rhodes briefly mentioned The Rock in the build to their match, but that was about it. The new champion Cena now looks destined to revisit a feud with one of his oldest rivals, Randy Orton, after Monday's "WWE Raw" after WrestleMania.
