Bronnikov Stunned by Youthful Enthusiasm at Sheikh Imam's 30th Anniversary Celebration
Pasant Elzaitony Denis Bronnikov, the Deputy Director of the Russian Cultural Center in Cairo, expressed his amazement at the overwhelming turnout of youth at the celebration of Sheikh Imam, marking the 30th anniversary of his passing. He noted that the crowd stretched for dozens of meters along Tahrir Street, extending all the way to the entrance of the Russian Cultural Center. Bronnikov pointed out that most of the attendees were in their twenties. He added that the Tchaikovsky Theatre was fully packed, describing it as a phenomenon worthy of contemplation. The celebration, organized by the Sheikh Imam Society for Arts and Literature in collaboration with the Russian Cultural Center in Cairo, saw a large turnout that included a number of renowned poets and artists. The distinguished poet Zayn El-Abidin Fouad was present, along with other contemporary poets such as Mahmoud El-Taweel, Mohamed Seif, Farghali Mahran, and Sayed Enaba, who recited poems reflecting the rich poetic heritage of Sheikh Imam. Meanwhile, several individuals were honored for their contributions to preserving the legacy of Sheikh Imam. As the evening unfolded, the connection between Sheikh Imam's music and political activism became even clearer. Bronnikov also highlighted that Sheikh Imam's songs reached beyond Egypt's borders, having been introduced to Russian audiences since 1985, when he performed at the World Youth Forum in Moscow. The Russian Cultural Center has maintained this cultural exchange, showcasing the universal themes in Imam's music that resonate with youth all over the world. Sherif Gad, a key figure at the event, reflected on the enduring impact of the late musician. 'Sheikh Imam is still alive in the hearts of Egyptians,' he said. 'He was the blind singer who illuminated the hearts of the poor and the revolutionaries. He sang for workers, farmers, and for Palestine, and his songs remain a guiding light for those fighting for justice.' The celebration, which also included a poignant memorial for late poets such as Naguib Sorour and Ahmed Fouad Negm, reinforced the idea that Sheikh Imam's artistic and political influence continues to shape the cultural landscape of Egypt. WWE champion's reign ends after 63-days on SmackDown before Night of Champions 2025
WWE Night of Champions is only a day away from emanating from the Kingdom Arena in the rich city of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. WWE built much hype for the Premium Live Event in the same venue by presenting the June 27th edition of Friday Night SmackDown. While two titles managed to stay with their respective titleholders, a major championship changed hands following a highly spectacular showdown that captivated the Riyadh audience. Which WWE Championship changed hands on SmackDown before Night of Champions 2025 Premium Live Event? On the June 27th edition of WWE SmackDown, Zelina Vega was scheduled to defend her WWE Women's United States Championship against Giulia. The international sensation had been having multiple encounters with Vega over the last few weeks since she was called up from WWE NXT. After Vega defeated Pipe Niven in a match with Giulia's help, she immediately turned on her and held the star-spangled prize high. This clearly hinted at her intentions, and the match was made official for SmackDown taking place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The duo clashed in an epic encounter that was a thrilling sight to witness. The Beautiful Madness unleashed her fury on the defending champion, who fought through it valiantly. From stunning drops to power-packed moves, Vega and Giulia stole the show. Towards the final moments of the title match, Giulia clearly had the upper hand, launching a pair of knee strikes. She put a conclusion to the bout by delivering a Northern Lights Bomb on Zelina Vega and pinned her shoulders to the mat for the three count. With that win, Giulia became the new WWE Women's United States Champion, marking her first singles title on the main roster. It was a sight of similar success being replicated by Giulia that she did when she arrived in NXT last year. While Zelina Vega did her best, her effort ultimately fell short at the hands of The Beautiful Madness. Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall
Taarek Refaat A tragic accident overshadowed MC Algiers' (Mouloudia Club d'Alger) celebration of its ninth Algerian Ligue 1 title on Saturday, after a fan died and 11 others were injured in a fall from the upper stands of the July 5 Stadium. MC Algiers secured its second consecutive league title with a goalless draw against NC Magra on the final day of the season. Emergency medical teams provided on-site assistance and transported the injured to hospital for further care.' The statement also noted that a mobile medical unit was set up inside the stadium and that ten ambulances were dispatched from the National Training and Intervention Unit. Ceremony Postponed, Mourning Nationwide In response to the incident, the title ceremony was postponed as emergency responders secured the area. President Abdelmadjid Tebboune publicly mourned the deceased fan, expressing his condolences to the family and the MC Algiers community via social media. The deceased has not yet been officially identified, and an investigation is reportedly underway to determine the cause of the fall. Witnesses at the scene said the crowd had surged forward in celebration, leading to a partial collapse or slip near the barrier of the upper tier. A Night of Mixed Emotions For MC Algiers, the title marks a historic achievement — the club's ninth national league championship and a rare back-to-back win — but the emotional high has been deeply muted by the tragedy. League officials, players, and fans have expressed their sorrow, calling for improved safety measures in stadiums and crowd management during major events.
