Glasgow artist's tribute to Oasis ahead of Murrayfield gigs

Well-known Glasgow artist Ashley Rawson has created a tribute to the legendary rock band, which Casts a Shadow on Buchanan Street in the city centre. Titled 'Bro(w)therly Love', it features a massive monobrow which meets in the middle between two phone boxes on the busy street. It also features small figurines of the Gallagher brothers, Liam and Noel, in the centre and has an eye which references their discovery at the famous King Tut's Wah Wah Hut venue on St Vincent Street. "With this one, I was just walking through town and I just noticed that there were these two phone boxes together and I thought, what could I do with that... "I just thought, the Gallaghers, I was quite excited about them getting back together. "I ended up thinking that I'll do something a bit weird, and thought about what they're famous for. "So, I just thought I'd put a monobrow on that, and I'll do these little models of the two Gallagher brothers. "I like the idea that siblings can fall out and the idea of them coming together, and it being a nice message." Ashley is accustomed to being a Street-Art Supernova in Glasgow and has previously painted a mural of 'Christ on a Bike' on the Clydeside, as well as a depiction of Donald Trump behind bars, located behind the Brazen Head pub in the Gorbals. Ashley said: "Glasgow feels like quite a good place for Oasis because it's a kind of you know it's not too dissimilar from Manchester. "It's an industrial town, and the fact that they were discovered here by a Scottish guy as well, I think that's all really, really worth referencing." Ashley, who is known for the Glasgow Kiss painting, among others, is exhibiting his work later this year as part of the Glasgow 850 celebrations at Cass Art in the city centre. The artist's works include Glasgow Kiss, featuring a Rangers and Celtic fan kissing. He is also responsible for the Hampden Bowling Club mural marking a Scotland 5-1 win over England on the site in 1882, and recently the Grumpy Oompa Lumpa from the now infamous Glasgow Wonka event. The joy of seeing his street art 'bring people a bit of joy' isn't lost on him, though. Ashley explained: "I think that kind of art, this idea of taking something that's normal and mundane, like a telephone box, and then doing something fun with it, is great. "I just like the idea of someone walking past it one day, and it's just the usual. "It's the way it's always been, and they don't see it. "And then the next day there's been this change, and you know, it's nice. "It just kind of entertains people, gives them a wee smile, and that's what I think that street art's really good for." Oasis is set to play three huge sold-out dates at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh next month as part of The Oasis Live '25 tour.

Snow Patrol shout out iconic Glasgow venue at TRNSMT

Dedicating Chasing Cars to Glasgow, Gary Lightbody (lead singer) of Snow Patrol, thanked King Tut's Wah Wah Hut for helping them when they were first starting out and living in the city. Gary told the crowd: "When we first moved to Glasgow in 1998, we would rock up to the front of King Tut's with our guitars and ask if we could play on the stage after the doors opened. "Every time they would let us play, they would also feed us. When you're a new band who are just starting out, stuff like that means the world. So, I would like to thank every place in Glasgow that helped us like Tut's and Nice N Sleazy. "I also want to shout out all the amazing bands from Glasgow too. There are too many to name." (Image: Picture credit: Lesley Martin/PA Wire) The Northern Irish–Scottish rock band, who formed in Dundee back in 1994, declared that playing in Glasgow felt like coming home. Speaking on the importance of the city to the band, Gary said: "This city was a big part of our life and is a really important part of our journey as a band." (Image: Picture credit: Lesley Martin/PA Wire) Having lived in the city for 10 years, they wrote some of their biggest hits here, such as Run. During their hour and a bit set, the group played their big hits as well as a song from their new album as Gary humorously told the crowd: "It was going to happen at some point. Don't panic, nobody panic." (Image: Picture credit: Lesley Martin/PA Wire) Perhaps the best part of Snow Patrol's set though was the joy on the band's faces. I couldn't help but smile as a huge grin spread across Gary's face every time the crowd sung the lyrics back to him. He was buzzing, thrilled and any other positive word you could think of. But most of all, there was a look of thankfulness and gratitude to be in Glasgow, to be on that main stage and to be headlining this festival. You could see Gary taking it all in, as if he was having his own 'I made it' moment. There's something beautiful about seeing a globally renowned band feeling so appreciated by our city. But, it's what we do best, isn't it? Making people feel at home, appreciating what they have to offer to us and of course, enjoying live music. I can't say I was particularly a fan of the band before the show, nor had I ever really listened to them, but Snow Patrol's set made me want to devour their albums and immerse myself in their sound. Though I said I wasn't particularly a fan of the band before the show, I certainly am now.

Kooks urge ‘peace and love and sun cream' at TRNSMT festival

'Peace and love and sun cream' – that is the advice from indie rockers The Kooks as they got ready to play Scotland's biggest music festival in the scorching heat. Known for their hits Naive and She Moves In Her Own Way, they said they were excited to play TRNSMT on Saturday, even with the 30C weather. Frontman Luke Pritchard told the PA news agency The Kooks had 'got their mojo' back with their latest album Never/Know. He said he was honoured to be invited back to the festival again and again since playing it at its debut in 2017. Asked how he would describe the festival in Glasgow, the singer said it was 'warm, electric and quite intense'. 'We are so excited,' he said. 'We've been looking forward to this for ages. We have played TRNSMT so many times, and so we feel very honoured, lucky – it's like coming home, so I feel good. 'And we've got a new album to play. It's positive record – soul, rock and roll. 'Took it back to the roots of the band with a bit of modern energy. 'It seems to have gone down very well, especially with our fans.' Never/Know is out now! Thank you so much to everyone who worked on this album with us, we're so excited for you to hear it and can't wait to take it on the road across the US later this month and UK for our October tour. Thank you to everyone who pre-saved, pre-ordered and has… — The Kooks (@thekooksmusic) May 9, 2025 Hugh Harris, the band's lead guitarist, added, 'We love it. We are just honoured to still be doing this 20 years later', having played TRNSMT's predecessor T in the Park in the 2000s, which he described with a smile as 'chaos'. But what is different this time, according to Mr Pritchard, is 'we've got our mojo back'. 'You know, you go through ups and downs so it's a good time to come back. 'But you're right, every few years we seem to be here and we don't ask too many questions about that – we'd play here every year if they wanted us to.' The band said one of their favourite memories in Scotland was playing the classic Glasgow venue King Tut's Wah Wah Hut, before going to the Blue Lagoon chip shop. Mr Pritchard said: 'After the gig we always used to get deep-fried haggis. It was amazing.' Asked for advice for festival-goers attending TRNSMT in the sweltering heat, Mr Pritchard said: 'Just peace and love, you know, and stop crying. Peace and Love and sun cream.' Mr Harris added: 'Make sure you slip that slop on each other's backs, that bit in the middle that gets no attention. Don't forget that bit. Electrolytes.' The guitarist added that now more than ever, events like TRNSMT were needed: 'There's a frisson to it. 'It's people coming together – that's what festivals are for. 'People having a good time and being as one, feeling as one in quite an isolated time at the minute. 'So we need spaces like this for people.'
