Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN): 'Alexa's Getting An Upgrade,' Says Jim Cramer
Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) is one of the . Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) is one of the biggest eCommerce companies in America. When compared to other mega-cap technology stocks, Cramer doesn't discuss the firm as often. One rarely discussed aspect of Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) that he has mentioned is the firm's potential to disrupt the pharmacy market in the US. Cramer has advised pharma companies like Walgreens to be wary about Amazon stealing their market. The CNBC TV host has also discussed Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN)'s near-ubiquity due to the firm's presence in lucrative industries such as eCommerce, web services, and cloud computing. This time around, he commented on the firm's digital assistant Alexa: '[In response to Faber asking when the robots will come online] I don't think people realize what's coming. Which is that right now, Alexa's getting an upgrade and it's a digital assistant and it's gonna help you more. And it might be able to turn on your coffee maker, okay. The robot, will say, Mr. Cramer, because I prefer that, Mr. Cramer, how much cream you want today, and I'll say no I gained a pound yesterday can I switch to skimmed. And it'll be like, no problem, Mr. Cramer. The thing will be so subservient, it's really kind of crazy. By the way this is true what I'm saying. I saw one of these at the conference.' Previously, Cramer discussed Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN)'s latest earnings report: 'Then there's Amazon, which is trading lower after hours because the company gave a conservative forecast for the second quarter, as they typically do. And who can blame them given the impossible-to-game tariff situation. Sales grew 9% year-over-year, topped expectations by over $600 million, led by double digit growth from Amazon Web Services, and the company's increasingly important advertising business. The gross margins there are insane. Earnings per share, meanwhile, is up an incredible 62%. Beat the $1.36 consent assessment by 23 cents. While we acknowledge the potential of AMZN as an investment, our conviction lies in the belief that some AI stocks hold greater promise for delivering higher returns and have limited downside risk. Rite Aid Closures Reach 1,000 as America Faces 'Pharmacy Deserts'
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Rite Aid continues to shutter stores across the country as the company pursues a complete wind-down of its nationwide footprint after filing for bankruptcy for the second time in two years. According to court filings, the pharmacy chain has already marked more than 1,000 locations for closure since it filed for Chapter 11 protection in early May. Why It Matters Rite Aid's decision to shutter or sell-off all of its 1,200 stores – sparked by long-term financial difficulties and a challenging retail environment – comes as other pharmacy chains including CVS and Walgreens scale down their nationwide footprint. The hundreds of stores that are still set to close within the year will limit many Americans' access to health screenings and prescription medications, resulting in what experts are calling "pharmacy deserts" – less-connected communities being left without a sufficient number of nearby drugstores. What To Know In early May, Rite Aid announced plans to file for Chapter 11 proceedings, a move that will result in all of its stores either closing for good or being sold to new owners. CEO Matt Schroeder said the decision was prompted by "financial challenges," exacerbated by "rapidly evolving retail and healthcare landscapes." Since then, the company has issued several rounds of closure notices. In its latest update on June 27, Rite Aid said it would shut another 123 locations across eight states, with California, Pennsylvania and New York the hardest hit. The announcement brought the total for June to nearly 600 and pushed the overall number of closures to 1,070. A Rite Aid store in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Wednesday, June 25, 2025. A Rite Aid store in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Wednesday, June 25, 2025. Gene J. Puskar/AP Photo The difficulties faced by Rite Aid are not unique, however. Other pharmacies including CVS and Walgreens are also reducing their nationwide store presence, which both companies have framed as a means of improving company-wide efficiencies. This sector-wide trend threatens to decrease access to medication for many Americans, raising concerns about the growing phenomenon of so-called pharmacy deserts. Research published in March, prior to the beginning of the Rite Aid closures, from U.S. healthcare company GoodRx found that over 48.4 million Americans – or one in seven – now lack easy access to a drugstore. That marks an increase from 41.2 million in 2021, with the firm saying that 45 percent of U.S. counties could now be classified as pharmacy deserts, meaning large sections of the population are forced to travel significant distances to access essential medications. What People Are Saying Rite Aid CEO Matt Schroeder, upon announcing that the company had commenced Chapter 11 proceedings, said: "For more than 60 years, Rite Aid has been a proud provider of pharmacy services and products to our loyal customers. While we have continued to face financial challenges, intensified by the rapidly evolving retail and healthcare landscapes in which we operate, we are encouraged by meaningful interest from a number of potential national and regional strategic acquirors. As we move forward, our key priorities are ensuring uninterrupted pharmacy services for our customers and preserving jobs for as many associates as possible." Alex Beene, a financial literacy instructor for the University of Tennessee at Martin, previously told Newsweek: "For some major retailers, 2025 is becoming a year of consolidation. Retail locations that have struggled in recent years to remain profitable due to rising costs and less demand are being shuttered, as companies focus their efforts on more successful stores. The hope is these closures will ultimately produce more fiscal and operational efficiency, but it will come at the cost of customers who favored these locations having fewer options." What Happens Next? Many of Rite Aid's locations and prescription files have already been sold to competitors such as CVS. Last week, Rite Aid secured court approval to sell its Thrifty Ice Cream brand to a Monster Beverage-linked company for $19.2 million. With pharmacy closures set to continue throughout 2025, the likelihood is growing that more Americans will find themselves struggling to access essential medication.

Rite Aid store closures: Latest list of doomed locations brings grim total to more than 1,000 pharmacies
The number of Rite Aid stores marked for closure just hit a grim milestone. With this latest list, Rite Aid has now marked more than 1,000 locations for closure since it filed for bankruptcy in early May. At the time of its original filing, Rite Aid said it had 1,277 pharmacies in operation. Previous waves of Rite Aid closures The shutterings have been happening for several weeks. Rite Aid is going out of business, meaning all of its stores will either close or be sold to new owners. The company has already sold off most of its prescription files to competitors, including CVS, Walgreens, and Albertsons. CVS has also said it will take over 64 physical Rite Aid locations in three states. Last week, Rite Aid also named bidders for many of its remaining assets, including its Thrifty ice cream brand, as Fast Company reported. Thrifty's winning bidder, a limited partnership linked to Monster Energy executives, has so far not said what it plans to do with the brand. In addition to Thrifty, Rite Aid has identified bidders for dozens of its stores, court documents reveal. A hearing on the sale of these assets is planned for today, 'or soon thereafter.' Which Rite Aid stores were included in the latest closure notice? Rite Aid listed 123 locations on its ninth notice of closures. The stores span eight states, with California, Pennsylvania, and New York being hit the hardest. Fast Company reached out to Rite Aid to ask about the timeline of the closures. Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc. (WBA) Has Surprised Jim Cramer With Earnings
Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc. (NASDAQ:WBA) is one of the . Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc. (NASDAQ:WBA) is the embattled pharmacy retailer which is going private. Its shares have gained 24.6% year-to-date primarily on the back of its deal to go private. Cramer has frequently discussed the stock this year. In his earlier appearances, the CNBC host has praised the deal as he was worried that Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc. (NASDAQ:WBA) would become a 'zombie' otherwise. This time around he discussed the firm's latest quarter and explained why the shares hadn't moved despite the upbeat results: 'Positive news here in the M&A front. Walgreens. Sycamore's buying them. They reported a very good quarter last night. First upside surprise that I can recall. Remember Sycamore's getting the actual drug stores. But I think this is actually very hopeful for Sweeney and his team. I also think David that perhaps, they get to sell some of these healthcare clinic businesses and you're gonna find that this is, it's going to work. I can't believe it. A pharmacist discussing the health benefits of a prescription medication with a customer. Cramer discussed Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc. (NASDAQ:WBA) after Sycamore decided the acquire the firm. Here's what he said: 'A few weeks ago, Walgreens decided to sell out to a private equity firm, a storied name. See you later. The company that's buying them? Sycamore. I think this was a great deal for Walgreens because otherwise, I figured it would go the way of the zombie firm…. But let's see if things have gotten better or if maybe, there's some real buyer's remorse. Nothing would shock me.' While we acknowledge the potential of WBA as an investment, our conviction lies in the belief that some AI stocks hold greater promise for delivering higher returns and have limited downside risk.
