Liberal Party is at a ‘very low point' while considering gender quotas
Shadow Cabinet Secretary Andrew Wallace says the Liberal Party has 'pushed back against' the concept of quotas as it is 'uncharted territory'. 'I think we need to absolutely increase our number of women in the parliament,' Mr Wallace told Sky News Australia. 'We're at a very, very low point right now. 'Everything has to be on the table; we have to examine all options in relation to our policies and our structures. 'Australians expect us as an opposition to be a credible opposition.'

Nicolle Wallace blasts Hegseth over performative news conference on Iran strikes
Nicolle Wallace called out Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth over his performative news conference on Thursday, which she argued did little to resolve the issue 'haunting' the Trump administration in the wake of the United States' airstrikes on Iran. That issue, according to Wallace, revolves around one key question: 'Has Iran's nuclear program been — as Donald Trump asserted Saturday night and has repeated every day since — 'obliterated'?' During his remarks Thursday, Hegseth repeated Trump's claim that the facilities had been 'obliterated.' However, as Wallace noted, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Dan Caine, refused to use that word when describing the results of the strike. Wallace said Caine's choice encapsulated 'the whole issue that's being debated.' 'Were the strikes successful in terms of hitting targets? Yes. But did the strikes deliver the result that the administration says they did, and says they wanted?' Wallace asked. Wallace also tore into Hegseth over his treatment of the media during the news conference. 'Here's what happened when Fox News' Pentagon reporter, Hegseth's former colleague, Jennifer Griffin, asked the incredibly important and respectful and relevant question whether the Iranians moved uranium out of the Fordo site,' Wallace said, before playing a clip of Griffin and Hegseth's exchange, during which the defense secretary personally attacked his former colleague and accused her of being 'about the worst' at intentionally misrepresenting what Trump says. Wallace also praised Griffin for standing up for herself and her reporting: That was America's secretary of defense saying to Fox's highly respected, highly credible, highly experienced Pentagon correspondent, 'Jennifer, you're the worst.' And you saw her there take issue with the assessment and go on to defend her reporting, none of which has been disproven. It's just a taste of what happened today at the Pentagon from the secretary of defense, whose salary is paid for by all of our taxpayer dollars. Watch Wallace's full comments on Hegseth's news conference in the clip at the top. This article was originally published on

Radar glitch or UFO? Star-shaped object over Washington fuels fresh conspiracy theories
A star-shaped object spotted on weather radar over Washington, D.C., has sparked online speculation, reminiscent of a similar earlier anomaly. While theories range from secret government programs to extraterrestrial activity, a meteorologist suggests radar interference from a nearby structure is the likely cause. Despite explanations, the sighting has fueled a digital debate, blending curiosity with skepticism. Tired of too many ads? Remove Ads Tired of too many ads? Remove Ads A new video showing a mysterious star-shaped object on weather radar over Washington, D.C., is fueling another round of wild speculation by X user Matt Wallace, the radar footage appears to capture an unusual object moving across the D.C. area. "THERE IT IS AGAIN?" Wallace captioned the clip, referencing a similar anomaly that surfaced earlier this earlier sighting had already stirred panic and theories ranging from secret government weather manipulation to extraterrestrial activity. However, meteorologist Matthew Cappucci had debunked such claims, explaining that the radar glitch was likely caused by a structure east of the National Weather Service's Dulles radar. According to Cappucci, the building's interference caused the radar beam to reflect back incorrectly, creating a false Lake, a special advisor to the U.S. Agency for Global Media, had first noticed the previous anomaly, which coincided with a strong storm system entering the Wallace's latest post ignited a flurry of reactions.'Probably just a high-altitude military jet we weren't supposed to spot,' one user suggested.'Looks like the space station,' another user questioned if it could be fighter jets flying without transponders. Others took a more humorous tone: 'There's a Santa sleigh on Google Maps too—doesn't mean it's real.'One commenter added a conspiratorial twist: 'The military promotes UFO narratives to cover up advanced tech. Most of those sightings are just propaganda.'Another X user commented, "A couple of notes: 1) this is an animation - Computer generated graphic to help visualize air traffic. 2) someone assigned the star shaped sprite to this animation. 3) the fact that the sprite has a special shape means the computer system sees the object as something other than a plane. 4) no altitude information is provided here and no planes are taking evasive maneuvers. 5) the trajectory (speed and direction) is consistent with a low orbit satellite."Whether it's radar interference or something more mysterious, the incident has once again triggered a digital storm of curiosity, skepticism, and intrigue.

Bacteria can turn plastic waste into a painkiller
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Tylenol could potentially be made greener and cheaper with the help of bacteria. Scientists were able to use a bacterial chemical reaction to convert a plastic water bottle into paracetamol with no environmental strain. This development could alter the way drugs are produced and provide a much-needed solution to the plastic pollution problem. The bacteria Escherichia coli or common in the gut microbiome, can be used to break down plastic into paracetamol, according to a study published in the journal Nature Chemistry. Paracetamol, or acetaminophen, is the main active ingredient in the painkiller Tylenol. It is generally produced using fossil fuels, namely crude oil, which has been known to worsen climate change. But "by merging chemistry and biology in this way for the first time, we can make paracetamol more sustainably and clean up plastic waste from the environment at the same time," said Stephen Wallace, a professor at the University of Edinburgh and the lead author of the study, to The Guardian. The researchers triggered a chemical reaction in known as the Lossen rearrangement that "until now had only been observed in test tubes," said Spanish newspaper El País. The was genetically modified to be able to break down polyethylene terephthalate (PET), a plastic used in food packaging and bottles, and ultimately produce paracetamol. This process can occur at room temperature and produces no carbon emissions. "It enables, for the first time, a pathway from plastic waste to paracetamol, which is not possible using biology alone, and it's not possible using chemistry alone," Wallace said to Science News. While it will take time before the painkiller can be widely produced using this method, "this could mark part of a broader shift toward more sustainable, biology-based manufacturing practices, both in the pharmaceutical industry and in plastic recycling," El País said. Plastic waste has been known to harm the environment and can pollute waterways and leach chemicals into the ecosystem. Microplastics have also been found almost everywhere on Earth and in our bodies. "I genuinely think this is quite an exciting sort of starting point for plastic waste upcycling," Wallace said. PET plastic "creates more than 350 million tons of waste annually," said a news release about the study. While PET recycling is possible, "existing processes create products that continue to contribute to plastic pollution worldwide." This research could be the solution to the pollution. The study's findings indicate that "PET plastic isn't just waste or a material destined to become more plastic," Wallace said in the release. "It can be transformed by microorganisms into valuable new products, including those with potential for treating disease." This is not the first time bacteria have been used to break down plastic, and it likely will not be the last. However, the ability to create medicine from plastic introduces a fresh area of research. "Based on what we've seen, it's highly likely that many — or even most — bacteria can perform these kinds of transmutations," Wallace said. "This opens up a whole new way of thinking about how we might use microbes as tiny chemical factories."

MSNBC's Nicole Wallace claims she's ‘gutted' over Trump deporting alleged gang members to El Salvador
MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace expressed sorrow on Tuesday over the Trump administration deporting alleged Tren de Aragua gang members to El Salvador. During a recent episode of 'The Bulwark' podcast, Wallace mentioned the deportations as the thing that scared her most about President Donald Trump's second term, saying she was 'gutted' when seeing a photo of alleged gang members being housed in a prison in El Salvador. 'I saw the paid ads that Homeland Security was doing in front of the deportees who were now prisoners at CECOT [Terrorism Confinement Center] and I was gutted,' she told host Tim Miller. President Trump invoked the Alien Enemies Act in March to expedite deportations of suspected Tren de Aragua gang members, invoking anger from critics who have said there is insufficient evidence to determine their ties to the gang. The Department of Homeland Security has defended the deportations, with DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin saying that the migrants sent to CECOT in El Salvador are 'actually terrorists, human rights abusers, gangsters, and more' and that the administration is abiding by due process. DHS Secretary Kristi Noem said in March, 'I trust our intelligence agencies and the intelligence individuals that are within the Department of Homeland Security, that the individuals who are there are members and a part of this organization and have worked with them.' The deportation approach has faced legal challenges. The US Supreme Court barred the Trump administration from deporting migrants without them being given a chance to challenge their designations as criminal gang members in April, and extended that order in May. During the interview, Wallace denied there was any evidence whether the people Trump had been trying to deport were gang members. 3 Nicolle Wallace said she was 'gutted' after seeing a photo of alleged gang members inside of a prison in El Salvador. 'And I remember saying… like 'I wish I didn't feel so gutted. And I wish I could stop thinking about these guys being scared in El Salvador.'' After mentioning feeling terrible about seeing the photos that DHS posted of suspected gang members being held at CECOT, the MSNBC host accused the administration of mistreating human beings. 3 Salvadoran police officers escorted an alleged member of the Tren de Aragua gang to the Terrorism Confinement Center after he was deported from the US. via REUTERS 'And I think I'm sometimes scared by how much anguish I feel over how they're treating human beings. But I think that if you abandon the anguish, then you carry out horrible things against human beings,' Wallace said, adding, 'I'm scared about how much it bothers me — that so many people are suffering.' When asked for comment, White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson told Fox News Digital, 'Cry more, Nicole Wallace. Only a TDS [Trump Derangement Syndrome] whack job would be 'gutted' that illegal criminal terrorists are being removed from the country but fail to mention the American victims of these heinous criminals.'
