Waltair DRM felicitates railway officials for successful completion of NI works

Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Waltair, Lalit Bohra, on Tuesday felicitated Divisional Traffic Inspectors, Station Masters, Token Porters, and others for their contribution to the successful execution of Non-Interlocking (NI) works across the Division over the past year. Appreciating the relentless efforts of the team, Mr. Lalit Bohra highlighted their role in the successful commissioning of the Automatic Signalling System on the main line of Waltair Division and in sections of the Marshalling Yard. He also lauded their contributions to the commissioning of new lines as part of the doubling projects on the Kottavalasa–Kirandul line, Koraput–Rayagada line, and at Goods Sheds. ADRM (Operations) Manoj Kumar Sahoo, Senior Divisional Operations Manager Tanmay Mukhopadhyaya and other senior officials were present.

Visakhapatnam: Focusingon the theme 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health' and featuring 'yoga sangam', mass yoga demonstrations were presented by Waltair Division, East Coast Railway. Drawing inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who led the IYD event in Visakhapatnam, the division in collaboration with NGOs, Scouts and Guides, Civil Defence, union representatives and Indian Navy personnel carried out a series of initiatives across the division to build awareness of yoga among railway personnel, their families, and the general public. The yoga session at the stadium was led by Divisional Railway Manager, Waltair, Lalit Bohra in the presence of president ECoRWWO Jyotsna Bohra, ADRM (Operations) Manoj Kumar Sahoo, ADRM (Infra) E Santharam, vice president ECoRWWO Madhusmtha Sahoo, among others. Highlighting the benefits of yoga, GVMC Mayor Peela Srinivasa Rao said a number of diseases will be in control if one practices yoga regularly. The Mayor stressed that yoga could cure several long-term illnesses too. Visakhapatnam Special Economic Zone celebrated the IYD at its campus. VSEZ Development Commissioner Srinivas Muppaala highlighted the importance of yoga, its countless benefits. 'Practising yoga helps in overcoming sleep disorders, neck pain, headaches and inability to concentrate,' he stressed. Prisoners and personnel of Visakhapatnam Central Jail joined hands for IYD celebrations by performing yoga asanas in the formation of India map. Over 100 guarding personnel and 1,000 prisoners teamed up for the innovative presentation. In line with Andhra Pradesh's aim to support 'Yogandhra', Brandix Associates actively participated in the IYD celebrations. The company's associates came together in the spirit of unity, wellness, and national pride. Their enthusiastic participation reflects a shared commitment to promoting health-conscious workplaces and supporting nation-building initiatives through community engagement. At Vijnana Bharathi High school, BJP Gajuwaka convener, Karanam Reddy Narsingarao participated in the Yogandhra programme held on the eve of the IYD. Yoga trainer Narendra Sharma led a session for the school students and highlighted the importance of the day. To educate students on the importance of practising yoga, adrawing and essay writing contests were held. Principal Mahalakshmi Vadrevu, staff members, students and parents participated in the event. As part of its corporate social responsibility initiative, Pema Wellness Centre, Rushikonda, contributed to the International Yoga Day celebrations by offering a specially curated organic breakfast to over 500 VVIPs and dignitaries at the Viswa Priya Function Hall. The initiative highlighted the role of mindful, organic nutrition in fostering overall wellness. According to Lakshmi Thotakura of the centre, the aim is to support both physical and mental wellbeing by aligning nutritional choices with the essence of yoga.

Koraput: Senior railway officials led by Brijesh Kumar Mishra, commissioner of railway safety (CRS), south eastern circle, conducted a comprehensive inspection of the newly constructed 11.161 km electrified double line between Suku and Koraput stations on Thursday. The inspection is part of the ongoing Kottavalasa-Koraput doubling project. According to a release, the newly-commissioned double line section is equipped with 60 kg rails and designed to support a 25-tonne axle load. The stretch includes several major and minor bridges and engineered curves, all built to meet operational standards. Successful speed trials were conducted during the inspection, following which formal authorisation was granted for full-fledged commissioning of the section. The development is a key component of the broader doubling initiative along the Koraput-Rayagada line, aimed at enhancing rail capacity and improving operational efficiency in the region. Visakhapatnam: Electrical Loco Shed (ELS), Visakhapatnam, has introduced a series of innovative, crew-friendly modifications in WAP7 locomotive (37419), setting a new benchmark in operational excellence and crew comfort. Retrofitted crew desk, enhanced cab AC ducting, ventilated and improved seats, superior seating for enhanced driving comfort, motor-operated side window shutters, caution order display, rear view camera, anti-slip flooring with radium stickers, driver tool box, adjustable cab spot lights are some of the key feature improvements made to the loco engine. The upgraded locomotive was ceremoniously flagged off by Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Waltair, Lalit Bohra at Electric Loco Shed, Visakhapatnam. Recognising the dedication and innovation demonstrated by the ELS, VSKP team, DRM has announced a cash award of Rs 5,000. Speaking on the occasion, Lalit Bohra said, 'These modifications reflect our commitment to crew welfare and operational excellence. I congratulate the team for their innovative approach and wish them success at the All India Electric Loco Cab Competition.' Launched under the guidance of senior divisional electrical engineer B Shanmukha Rao, these enhancements have been carried out as part of the ELS/VSKP's entry into the 'All India Electric Loco Cab Competition' to be held at Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW).

Visakhapatnam: East Coast Railway Sports Association (ECoRSA) – Waltair has launched its annual 'Summer Coaching Camp 2025.' Started recently, the 40-day camp that continues till May 31 at Waltair Railway Stadium in Visakhapatnam drew enthusiastic participation from over 200 children, aged 5 to 15 years. The camp has both morning and evening sessions. As part of it, a dedicated yoga camp is being conducted under the guidance of Jyotsna Bohra, president of the East Coast Railway Women's Welfare Organisation (ECoRWWO), Waltair. This initiative aims to instil healthy habits and promote mental well-being among young participants. Children are actively participating in the yoga sessions, making the most of this opportunity. The free summer coaching camp offers a wide range of sports disciplines including yoga, athletics, boxing, basketball, cricket, ball badminton, football, badminton, swimming, table tennis, tennis, and volleyball. The platform is open to children of railway employees as well as residents of Visakhapatnam. Participants benefit from expert coaching and access to sophisticated sports facilities at the Waltair Railway Stadium. The initiative's primary objective is to nurture young talent, foster a spirit of sportsmanship and offer a platform for local youth to pursue excellence in sports at the national and international levels. Registration is currently open, with specific entry norms applicable for cricket, swimming, and tennis.
