In a first-of-its-kind initiative under the East Coast Railway (ECoR) Zone, Waltair Division has launched sleeping pods at Visakhapatnam railway station premises. The capsule hotel , developed under the Non-Fare Revenue model, offers affordable and modern accommodation for passengers visiting Vizag for medical, tourism, education, or industry-related Railway Manager Lalit Bohra at the launch of this facility on Thursday said that accommodation demand remains high at the station, often exceeding availability, prompting this pilot initiative to improve passenger comfort and convenience."This facility, inspired by metropolitan models, ensures budget-friendly, hygienic, and secure stay options for travellers," said an official from Waltair Division on facility has been established on Platform No. 1, Gate No. 3 of the railway station and Passengers can access the sleeping pod facility without needing a train ticket or even a platform ticket. It is open for use by the general public. The sleeping pod complex comprises 88 ergonomically designed beds - 73 single, 15 double, and 18 exclusively for women in a dedicated section with separate travellers have a private hall with a dressing room and modern bathrooms, designed for safety, privacy, and enhanced comfort inside the station premises. Key amenities include round-the-clock hot water, free Wi-Fi, modern toilets, spacious bathrooms, an in-house snacks bar, and a dedicated travel desk to assist tourists and are set at INR 200 for single pod up to three hours and INR 400 for 24 hours while double beds cost INR 300 and INR 600 respectively. Sirish, a pilgrim from Tirupati told PTI that he opted for the pods after visiting Simhachalam Temple, calling it a clean and affordable alternative to unavailable hotel a frequent traveller to Vizag from Kolkata, described the beds as "home-like," praising the luggage space and comfort, noting how helpful it is for passengers arriving after long-distance journeys. Suresh, travelling from Hyderabad, told PTI that he was surprised at the facility's availability, adding that similar pods should be introduced nationwide to generate revenue to the railway and provide safety and booking may be introduced later, depending on passenger demand. The capsule hotel will adhere to standard railway rules and remain under CCTV surveillance and security monitoring, said the official.

Rail passengers can now avail hotel in Vizag
Visakhapatnam: With an aim to provide a convenient and compact resting space for relaxation for passengers, Waltair Division of East Coast Railway has set up a sleeping pod facility, also known as capsule hotel. The facility provided under non-fare revenue generation at Visakhapatnam railway station intends to cater to travellers who are in transit and need a decent space to rest before the next leg of journey. Speaking to the media here on Thursday, Divisional Railway Manager Lalit Bohra mentioned that there is a consistent demand for resting spaces and accommodation facilities in Visakhapatnam station. 'The sleeping pods cater to a diverse range of passengers like those visiting for medical treatment, tourism, education, and employment purposes,' he mentioned. In order to address this growing demand and ensure a comfortable stay and travel experience for the travellers in Visakhapatnam, Waltair Division has initiated this project on a pilot basis, following the model implemented in other metropolitan cities, the DRM said. This facility is first of its kind in the ECoR zone provided, offering modern and budget-friendly accommodation facility for the passengers, he informed. Sri Mahalakshmi Agency secured the project in e-auction under PPP mode for five years. This facility is available to the passengers at platform No. 1, Gate No. 3, first floor of Visakhapatnam railway station. Currently, a total of 73 single beds and 15 double beds are available at the railway station. Of them, 18 beds for ladies are available in a dedicated hall with separate bathrooms and a dressing room. To avail the facility, passengers need to pay on an hourly basis.

Railway announces special trains for Puri Rath Yatra
1 2 3 Visakhapatnam: To arrange for passengers comfortable journey during Rath Yatra (Car Festival) at Puri in Odisha, the East Coast Railway has decided to run special trains between Visakhapatnam-Puri, Jagdalpur-Puri and Rayagada-Khurda Road. Special train number-08313 Visakhapatnam-Puri via Haripurgram, Arugul will leave Visakhapatnam at 12.45 am on June 27, and July 5 and will reach Puri on the same day at 12 pm. In the return direction, train number-08314 Puri -Visakhapatnam special train will leave Puri at 2.15 am (early hours of June 28 and July 6) to arrive in Visakhapatnam on the same day at 1 pm., informed K Saandeep, senior divisional commercial manager of Waltair Division. Special train number-08445 Jagdalpur-Puri via Haripurgram, Argul will leave Jagdalpur at 9 am on June 26 and July 4 and will reach Puri at 1.15 am midnight. In return direction the train number-08446 Puri- Jagdalpur special will leave Puri at 12.45 am on June 28 and July 6 will reach Jagdalpur on the same day at 4.45 pm. Similarly, train n-08593 Rayagada- Khurda Road special will leave Rayagada at 11 am on June 26 and July 4 will reach Khurda Road at 11.55 pm on the same day. In return direction the train number-08594 Khurda Road-Rayagada will leave Khurda Road at 1 am on June 28 and July 6 will reach Rayagada at 3 pm on the same day.
