As Abby Hustler walked to the stage at the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL) draft, she was thinking of Prince Edward Island. Article content Hustler, from St. Louis in the western end of Canada's smallest province, had just made history as the first-ever P.E.I. player drafted by a PWHL team. The Minnesota Frost selected the forward in the second round, 14th overall, on June 24. Article content Article content Article content 'Even the crowd kind of applauded when they heard I was the first player (drafted) from P.E.I.,' Hustler told The Guardian in a phone interview from Ottawa on June 25. 'Seeing all the people reach out to me from back home, it's super special to hear and see all the support I am getting. I couldn't be prouder to be an Islander.' Article content Minnesota has won the PWHL championship – Walter Cup – in the first two years of the league, which expanded to eight teams with the addition of Vancouver and Seattle franchises for the 2025-26 season. Article content Article content 'I got a chance to talk to a few of the girls who have been (in Minnesota) for a while and are leaders on the team,' said Hustler. 'It proves why they have won with their experience – they are great people and great leaders, on and off the ice. Minnesota selected Frost with their second of six picks in the six-round draft, which featured a total of 48 players taken. Hustler recently completed her fourth year at St. Lawrence University and graduated with a degree in statistics. Article content 'I had quite a bit of interviews (with teams leading up to the draft),' said Hustler. 'They don't really give you any indication of when they might take you, or where you are at type of thing. Article content 'I definitely talked with a lot of teams… I didn't really know how the draft would go, but I'm glad it turned out the way it did.'

The 26-year-old from Anchorage, Alaska, had two assists in 26 games with the Montréal Victoire last season. DeGeorge helped the Minnesota Frost win the Walter Cup in the PWHL's inaugural 2024 season. She had one assist in 23 regular-season games and appeared in all 10 of the team's playoff games. DeGeorge is the eighth player to sign with the Sceptres this off-season, along with goaltender Elaine Chuli and forward Claire Dalton, who both played with her last season in Montreal. The move comes a day before the PWHL's 2025 entry draft in Ottawa. 'We are excited to welcome Clair to our organization,' Sceptres general manager Gina Kingsbury, said in a release. 'Clair is a 200-foot centre that is defensively responsible with some offensive upside. She will bring PWHL experience to our lineup, including being a Walter Cup Champion.'
