Vietnamese jailed for soliciting at KK reflexology centre
KOTA KINABALU (July 10): A Vietnamese woman was jailed for three months by a Magistrate's Court here today for soliciting for the purpose of prostitution.
Magistrate Wan Farrah Fariza Wan Ghazali imposed the custodial sentence on Thi Hong Dang, 32, after she pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 372B of the Penal Code.
The indictment provides for a jail term of up to one year or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
Thi was arrested for committing the offence at a reflexology centre here on June 19.
The court heard that the police had raided the place and Thi and a customer were naked in one of the rooms there.
The police also found a used condom on a table and a customer admitted to have been provided with sex service for RM350.
In mitigation, Thi, who was unrepresented, prayed for a lenient fine. She claimed that she is married and has three kids.
In reply, the prosecution urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence saying that Thi's passport is still valid but her visa has already expired.
The magistrate ordered Thi to serve her jail sentence from the date of her arrest and to be referred to the Immigration Department after completing her jail term.
