Anwar ready to explain addendum issue if needed
PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is ready to meet with Umno division leaders to explain the issue involving the enforcement of the royal addendum concerning the house arrest of former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak. The Prime Minister acknowledged that over two-thirds of Umno division leaders had raised the matter on Thursday, which called for the immediate enforcement of the royal addendum. 'Firstly, this matter has been referred to the courts and I do not go above the courts over this. 'I have also informed the Umno president and its leadership that I am ready to meet with them to explain if needed, to preserve the harmony (between parties in the coalition),' Anwar said after performing Friday prayers at a mosque in Putrajaya yesterday. In a late-night media conference, Wangsa Maju Umno division chief Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Shafei Abdullah announced that 160 out of 191 Umno divisions urged Anwar to facilitate Najib's transition from Kajang Prison to house arrest without further delay. Najib is currently serving a 12-year prison sentence for misusing RM42mil of SRC International Sdn Bhd funds. Mohd Shafei said the Pahang palace confirmed the addendum's existence in a letter dated Jan 4, alongside the Court of Appeal's verdict on Jan 6. On a separate matter, Anwar also said it was still too early to comment on the proposed appointment of American conservative figure Nick Adams as the United States Ambassador to Malaysia. 'It is still too early, we follow the process. The government will surely give consideration (to public views) and also preserve the dignity as well as the good relations between Malaysia and the United States,' he added.

Umno division chiefs urge enforcement of royal addendum for Najib's house arrest
KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 145 Umno division chiefs nationwide, including those from Sabah, have called for the enforcement of a royal addendum decree to allow former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest. They said the decree had already been consented to by the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong and said that there was no longer any excuse to delay its implementation. Wangsa Maju Umno division chief Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Shafei Abdullah said all 145 division leaders are also demanding the Attorney-General withdraw the Federal Court appeal against the Court of Appeal's ruling on Jan 6. "As the government's top legal adviser, the Attorney-General should uphold the King's decree and support justice, not obstruct it. "In addition, all Umno divisions that have yet to convene are urged to table a special motion on the Titah Addendum during their respective division meetings," he said.
