Nicole Kidman Shares First Behind-the-Scenes Look With Sandra Bullock for 'Practical Magic 2'
The witchy 1998 classic Practical Magic starring Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock is getting a part two. The leading ladies are 'in negotiations' to come back as their characters, sister witches Sally (Bullock) and Gillian (Kidman), according to Deadline. In June 2024, the official Warner Bros. Pictures Instagram account confirmed plans for the film's sequel. The brand shared a series of memes made with scenes from the original movie, starting the carousel with a clip of Sally running and jumping into Michael's (Mark Feuerstein) arms for a kiss. In May 2025, Warner Bros. confirmed a Sept. 18, 2026 release date for the film. 'It's official! Practical Magic 2 is in development and coming soon. 🌟🧙♀️,' Warner Bros. captioned the post. Warner Bros. also shared the news on TikTok, posting a video of Sally and Gillian dancing and sipping their midnight margaritas. 'Me and the girls finding out Practical Magic 2 is happening,' the text read. On June 13, 2024, Kidman confirmed to People that she and Bullock will be returning as the sisters. She told the publication with a laugh, 'Yes I will be in it. And Sandy will be in it. And that's that. There's a lot more to tell which is why we go, "OK, this is kind of interesting now to be able to do this."' '[We] found a way in,' she quipped. In July 2025, Evan Rachel Wood cleared up rumors about a potential return as Kylie Owens, saying in her Instagram Stories that she would not be in the sequel. 'I am getting asked about this a lot, so I'll just clear it up now,' she wrote. 'I was not asked to come back and be in the #PracticalMagic sequel.' Woods says she reached out to express interest in returning, but was not offered a role. 'I offered my services, even if it was one scene or one line,' she continued. 'I was told they are recasting. I am sorry to disappoint the fans. It was not in my control or my choice. I would have happily rejoined my sisters.' The original Practical Magic follows sisters Sally and Gillian Owens who were orphaned as kids and raised by their aunts Francis (Stockard Channing) and Jet (Dianne Wiest), who teach them the ways of witchcraft. But a curse placed on their bloodline, which causes any man that an Owens woman loves to die, causes Sally and Gillian swear off magic in their adult lives. However, some sticky situations lead the sisters right back to casting spells in order to save their lives. The film is based on the same-name book by Alice Hoffman. Details on the next film's plot and cast are still mostly under wraps. On January 24, 2025, Deadline reported that Oscar winner Susanne Bier was in negotiations to direct. Bier is a favorite of both the stars, who have worked with her on various other projects: Bier directed Bullock in Netflix's Bird Box, and Kidman for the series The Undoing and miniseries The Perfect Couple. Yes! On July 18, Kidman shared a clip from behind-the-scenes on set. In the brief moment, she and Bullock are standing by a fake grave in maxi dresses, with Kidman wearing her iconic strawberry blonde wig from the film. They embrace and smile, even after the scene appears to end. 'The witches are back,' Kidman wrote in the caption. 'Owens sisters' first day on set!' The comic book Superman returns
Photo: Jessica Miglio/Warner Bros. Pictures/TNS Director: James Gunn Cast: David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced Rating: (M) ★★★★ REVIEWED BY AMASIO JUTEL The Gunn didn't jam on the first entry to his brand-new DC Universe. The colourful flair of Superman (Rialto, Reading) is undoubtedly a positive indicator of the direction director-turned-chief executive of DC Studios, James Gunn, will take his new comic book sandbox. Donning the blue and red tights, prominently featuring the iconic red boxer briefs, Clark Kent teams up with journalism, justice and his juvenile super-pup, Krypto, to take to the skies and bring down Luthor Corp and its bloodthirsty international ally. As with any totemic media character, the central focus has been on whose face will be rendered in the Kryptonian armour. I can happily report that David Corenswet's punk-rocker Kal-El is the injection of himbo earnestness severely lacking from the character's previous keeper. Corenswet is a stark departure from the dark and moody Man of Steel, last portrayed by Henry Cavill, bringing a kindness and naivety, off which Gunn bounces his comic sensibilities. His chemistry with Brosnahan's Lane is electric, and paired off against Hoult's raging Lex Luthor, the central trio is cast to perfection. From the film's opening frame, Gunn subverts the franchise template. Superman effectively leapfrogs the "origin story" component of the caped crusader's tale, trusting that viewers will recognise the sensibilities of comic book storytelling that pre-MCU era comic readers grew up on. The film itself plays like a feature-length Saturday morning cartoon, much like Sam Raimi's 2000s Spider-Man trilogy: a close analogue in style. Gunn's universe feels real in its own cartoon logic — a world where Superman swoops in to save a single squirrel during a full-blown Kaiju attack. The film doesn't shy away from balancing G-rated elements with allegories for real-world violence and geopolitical conflict, nor from Deer Hunter-level traumatic violence. In the plot, a xenophobic smear campaign from Luthor's army of online trolls inconveniences our do-gooder protagonist, who is caught up in media turmoil for acting against the fictional Boravia's war crimes. From the newsroom with Lois and Jimmy to the Jarhanpur/Boravia border to a "pocket universe", Superman, the movie, delivers on the "woke" grievances voiced by right-wing commentators. Boravia's US-backed military has been mobilised against the unarmed civilian population of Jarhanpur, and Superman has been under fire for preventing civilian casualties. The film's most effective non-action scene plays between Lois and Clark (as Superman), her interviewing him on the authority he had as an American to interfere with the affairs of other nations. To Superman, the answer is plain: stopping a war. Subtextually, Gunn eloquently echoes the critiques of media outlets for their quote-unquote "objective reporting", instead of reflecting the human rights issues of the conflict. And, although the nuances of the conflict escape the plot, the final action scene directly mirrors the 2018 Gaza border protests, in which 189 Palestinians were killed. While Luthor has Superman subdued in Metropolis and the Boravian troops raise their weapons to fire on an unarmed boy, Green Lantern disperses the IDF-analogue with a wave of massive green middle fingers.

Mortal Kombat 2 Trailer update, cast details, new characters, game-accurate moments and more
Image via: Warner Bros. Pictures Finally, it has arrived, and it does not hold back. From jaw-dropping fatalities to larger-than-life characters and brutal tournament sequences, the sequel, it would seem, has a thrilling upgrade on the 2021 reboot. To be released on October 24, 2025, the film again has Simon McQuoid at the helm and Jeremy Slater penning the screenplay. Karl Urban Steps into the Cage Topping the sequel is Karl Urban from The Boys, as Johnny Cage-the cocky, washed-up Hollywood actor and martial arts fighter who finally enters the Mortal Kombat universe in full force. While somewhat teased in the closing moments of the first film, Cage is now the focal point, introduced in the trailer with his sarcastic trademark and fan favorite one-liner: "I'm just incredibly handsome." Urban's Johnny Cage comes face-to-face with Kitana's razor-sharp fan, an arena of supernatural chaos, getting dragged unwillingly into the Earthrealm vs. Outworld conflict. Mortal Kombat II | Official Trailer Producer Todd Garner divulged that Johnny Cage was never brought in earlier because they were fearful of the mainstream audience failing to get down with an egotistical, over-the-top lead. New Faces, Familiar Blades Along with Urban, the cast features returning stars like Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, and Joe Taslim, joined by the likes of Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, and Martyn Ford as an intimidating Shao Kahn. What makes Mortal Kombat 2 a particularly exciting prospect for hardcore fans are the key locations and characters from the games themselves, such as Edenia, being represented in large-scale sequences shot in IMAX. According to the director McQuoid, this is not just a bigger picture; it is more dangerously bold and far-reaching in scope. "We have gone to new realms and pushed the scale and weirdness of Mortal Kombat to the next level," he said, further teasing that there will be moments crafted for hardcore fans to enjoy exclusively in the IMAX version. Fan Service, Franchise Faith If the trailer is anything to go by, Mortal Kombat 2 is gonna unleash on us what Metal Kombat held back from showing: a proper tournament, crazy deaths, and a whole array of visual references faithful to the game. Jeremy Slater compared the secrecy surrounding test screenings and fan reactions with that of Avengers: Endgame, a very promising sign as to the impact of this sequel. The film coming out in October is surely shaping up its game roots. Get ready, kombat is coming. Catch Rani Rampal's inspiring story on Game On, Episode 4. Watch Here!

‘Superman' leads to 500% surge in dog adoption interest — but experts warn against ‘impulse' pets
In James Gunn's 'Superman,' David Corenswet stars as the titular character — but the real star of the show is Krypto, his foster dog, who has had a significant cultural impact. Thanks to the love surrounding Krypto — inspired by Gunn's own rescue dog, Ozu — interest in dog adoption has surged over 500%. However, experts have warned prospective pet parents not to be blinded by the buzz, urging them to consider the lifestyle they want before bringing a new being into their homes. 3 Thanks to the love surrounding Krypto, interest in dog adoption has surged by over 500%. Warner Bros. Pictures Advertisement According to an analysis by dog training app Woofz, Google searches for 'adopt a dog near me' increased by 513% after the movie's premiere weekend. Searches for 'dog adoption near me' rose by 163% and inquiries for 'adopt a puppy' increased by 31%. More specifically, the interest in 'adopt a schnauzer' is up 299% — as Krypto seemingly is a mix between a Schnauzer and a terrier mutt. Advertisement The dog in the film is entirely CGI (computer-generated imagery), but Gunn told the New York Times that Ozu was the physical model for the flying pup, though Krypto has white fur instead of gray and is a little bigger than Ozu. Warner Bros. helped with that interest in dog adoption, teaming up with Best Friends Animal Society to cover pet adoption fees from July 1-10 ahead of the movie's release on July 11. During that time, there were 454 pets adopted across the nation. In 2024 alone, 4.8 million dogs and cats entered America's shelters, according to Best Friends, putting them at risk of being killed. Adopting a dog gives the animal a second chance at life. 'Ozu has no idea any of this is happening, but if he did, he'd be proud,' he wrote. 3 Krypto was inspired by James Gunn's own rescue dog, Ozu. AFP via Getty Images However, aside from the excitement of the spike in pet adoption interest, Woofz CEO Natalia Shahmetova said in a statement reported by The Wrap that 'adoption is a real commitment.' Advertisement In fact, the 'Superman' director shared his experience with that commitment, saying that at first his dog was 'the world's worst dog.' Gunn said that Ozu 'was biting my feet until they bled, ate my new $10,000 laptop, chewed up all my shoes and our furniture — and I was like, 'Thank God he doesn't have superpowers.'' 3 Google searches for 'adopt a dog near me' increased by 513% after the movie's premiere weekend. hedgehog94 – It's important to be aware of what adopting a dog entails before jumping into an 'impulse adoption.' 'Adopting a pet can be one of the most magical, life-changing experiences of your life, and everyone deserves the unconditional love of a pet, but it's super important that prospective pet parents take honest stock of their home situation and lifestyle before adopting,' Dr. Rebecca Greenstein, Veterinary Medical Advisor for Rover, told The Post. 'Are you truly ready for a dog or cat? Do you work long hours? Does the pet have a history of trauma? Do you know the pet's full medical history?' 'The hype will fade, but your dog will stay, so make sure you're ready to give them the time, care, and training they need and deserve,' Shahmetova warned.
