Forsyth fire crosses 9,550 acres, evacuation orders for to be downgraded
PINE VALLEY, Utah () — The , that has been burning for a week now, has consumed 9,665 acres and is at 5% containment, according to the latest update from the . A community meeting was held Thursday, June 26, and it was only open to residents of Pine Valley, Grass Valley and Gray's Ranch. All three communities are under evacuation orders. Residents of Pinto are still on standby. Officials said that a recording of the meeting will be available after the meeting on the Dixie National Forest Facebook page. At the community meeting, Washington County Sheriff's Department announced that evacuation orders for the communities of Pine Valley, Grass Valley, and Grassy Flats will be downgraded from 'go' status to 'set' status Friday at 10 a.m. Residents will be able to return to their homes starting at that time, but they will still need to be ready to evacuate again if conditions worsen. According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, as the weather continues to warm up, everything is drying out. This combined with the difficult terrain, is making it hard to fight the fire. Beaverton home invasion, assault prompts hunt for suspect
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Detectives are seeking information after they say a Beaverton woman was assaulted by a home invader on Monday. According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to a home near Southwest Bridle Hills Drive and Southwest 161st Drive where a woman said an unidentified man had entered her home and assaulted her both physically and sexually. The woman said she didn't recognize the man because he took steps to conceal his identity. Motorcyclist dies after crashing into construction vehicle in North Portland Authorities said they conducted an extensive search for the suspect, which included using K9s and drones, but they weren't able to find anyone. Detectives said they learned that the victim had been receiving threats from Luis Alberto Garcia, 31. However, Garcia didn't match the description of the suspect and had an alibi at the time of the attack. Although not the suspect, authorities said they do think Garcia was connected to the incident. On Wednesday, he was taken into custody on unrelated charges after a search warrant was served at a home in Cornelius. Officials are asking anyone in the area of the incident to check their surveillance cameras from 10 to 10:45 p.m. on June 9 for any suspicious activity. Janitor arrested at a Wisconsin high school in connection with child exploitation investigation
SLINGER, Wis. (WFRV) – A 27-year-old janitor at a Wisconsin high school was arrested Thursday morning for allegedly uploading unlawful images on the internet. According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, the man was taken into custody at Slinger High School as part of an ongoing Internet Crimes Against Children investigation. The possible suspect was identified as a Town of Trenton man, prompting the Washington County Sheriff's Office to launch a formal investigation. Investigators obtained a search warrant for the suspect's residence, which was set to be executed early Thursday morning. Before serving the warrant, deputies learned the suspect had left his residence and was in the Slinger area. His vehicle was located at Slinger High School a short time later. Detectives communicated with school authorities and the Slinger Police Department and learned that the man was employed as a janitor through a contracted cleaning service. The suspect had been working at the school for the past eight weeks, but Thursday was his first day assigned to the day shift. Prior to that, he had worked after school hours. Investigators monitored the suspect on school surveillance cameras and took him into custody without incident. At this time, the release states there is no evidence to suggest that there are any local victims or that local students were targeted. More than 40 vendors expected for Stillwater area Food Truck Extravaganza
The organizers of the largest food-truck event in the east metro are gearing up for this weekend's 'Food Truck Extravaganza,' hosted by the Greater Stillwater Chamber of Commerce. More than 40 food trucks are expected to converge from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 14, at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Baytown Township for what is being billed as the 'ultimate destination for culinary adventure and community fun.' In addition to food, the event will feature live music, children's activities, a beer and wine tent and a marketplace. The event also will feature a 'Military Row' that will include representatives of the four branches of the U.S. military, the Minnesota National Guard and Washington County Sheriff's Office. 'It's going to be another year of amazing food, great music and a fantastic community atmosphere,' said Robin Anthony-Evenson, president of the Greater Stillwater Chamber of Commerce. 'This event has become a highlight of the summer — bringing all sorts of people together to celebrate and support local businesses.' Admission is $10; children younger than 5 get in free. Pets are welcome, but they must be leashed. Parking is free. Grandparents Took Her In and Helped Raise Her. Then She and Her Boyfriend Did the Unthinkable
Heidi Dutton, 19, was sentenced to life in prison for her role in the murder of her grandparents, Deborah and Larry Dutton, just days before Christmas in 2022 Deborah and Larry were Dutton's biological grandparents and adoptive parents Deborah was shot in the face and had her throat slit, while Larry was stabbed repeatedly in the face before both were buried in the backyardAn Oklahoma teenager convicted of murdering her grandparents appeared in court for her sentencing. Heidi Dutton, 19, entered a guilty plea in May to two counts of first-degree-murder, conspiracy, and two counts of desecration of a human corpse in the deaths of Deborah and Larry Dutton, who were her biological grandparents and adoptive parents. On June 6, a Washington County Court judge sentenced Dutton to life in prison on the recommendation of the jury in the case. That comes on the heels of Dutton's boyfriend and accomplice in the murders, Lucas Walker, being sentenced to 35 years in prison after a federal trial. Walker's case was tried at the federal level because he is a member of the Cherokee nation. Deputies with the Washington County Sheriff's Office did not launch an investigation into the deaths of Deborah and Larry until a month after the murders, according to a copy of the criminal complaint obtained by PEOPLE. On Jan. 20, 2023, deputies responded to a welfare check at the couple's residence in Dewey, a city located approximately 130 miles southeast of then 17, and Walker were at the residence when deputies arrived that day, and later left the residence in handcuffs after detectives discovered blood that had seeped under the baseboards of Deborah and Larry's bedroom. Once in custody, both Walker and Dutton confessed to the murders, according to the complaint. Walker told police that he hid out in Dutton's bedroom on the night of Dec. 19, 2022 after taking a .22 caliber pistol from the garage, and then lay in wait outside the door to her grandparents' bedroom once the two were asleep. Deborah died first, according to the complaint, which says that when she "opened the door to the main bedroom, Walker shot her in the face and slit her throat." When her husband "got out of bed and rushed him, Walker attempted to shoot Larry Dutton but the pistol jammed," according to the complaint. Walker said that he decided to repeatedly stab Larry in the face with a knife. Walker and Dutton then dragged the couple out on bedsheets and buried them in the backyard — an act that was captured by the home's Ring Camera — according to a copy of a search warrant request obtained by PEOPLE. Two days after that welfare check the bodies of Deborah and Larry were exhumed from the backyard. Larry Dutton, 73, was a retired Master Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force and former manager of Lt. William M. Milliken Airport in Eureka, Kan, per an obituary for the couple. He "had a big heart and would give anyone the shirt off his back," one friend of his remembered in a funeral guestbook entry. His wife Deborah was a retired Staff Sergeant in the Air Force and had also worked as a chef. A lawyer for Dutton did not respond to a request for comment. Read the original article on People
