Wicked auditions: Who tried out for the film before Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo were cast?
Wicked stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo may now be etched into fans' minds as Glinda and Elphaba, but they weren't the only names in the running. The film adaptation of Wicked has been years in the making, and before director Jon M. Chu locked in his final cast, a long list of celebrities - from pop singers to seasoned stage stars - gave it a shot. According to a report by People, the road to Oz saw some surprising names auditioning for roles but they didn't make the cut. Even Ariana Grande herself once considered Elphaba instead of Glinda. While filming The Dropout, Amanda Seyfried made time on weekends to audition for Glinda. 'I literally bent over backwards while playing the hardest role of my life,' she told Backstage in 2022. The Descendants star revealed in multiple interviews that she had long dreamt of playing Glinda. Renée Rapp, who stars in Mean Girls, auditioned for Glinda but had no hard feelings. 'Ariana's gonna be f------ amazing,' she said during Watch What Happens Live! in 2022. The Penguin actress, who also has a Grammy for Once, attempted Elphaba's iconic high note-but admitted on The Tonight Show in 2024 that she missed it during the audition. The Color Purple actor said in a 2024 YouTube video that Elphaba's story mirrored her own experiences growing up. She praised Erivo, calling her casting 'stellar.' Nick Jonas revealed on the Armchair Expert podcast that he auditioned for Fiyero-alongside his brother Joe. 'We both auditioned for the same role,' he said. Joe Jonas also confirmed he was in the running for Fiyero, supporting his brother during the process. 'It has to be one of us,' he remembered saying. A former Broadway Fiyero, McCartan said on his podcast The Stage Door in 2024, 'Jon M. Chu, you didn't cast me… but no hard feelings.' Sutherland got a 'double callback' for Fiyero and admitted on the Zach Sang Show in 2023 that he didn't expect to go that far. While she now stars as Glinda, Grande originally auditioned for Elphaba too. But it was her role as Glinda that won over the director. Erivo, who ultimately landed Elphaba, didn't need to fight hard once she auditioned-director Jon M. Chu said there was 'no denying it' when she walked in. While not part of the audition chaos, Bailey ultimately won the role of Fiyero, beating out several singers and actors who had vied for the part. Amanda Seyfried, Dove Cameron, and Renée Rapp all auditioned for Glinda but were not cast. No, Taylor Swift did not audition for the Wicked movie. Yes, Ariana Grande auditioned for both Glinda and Elphaba before landing the role of Glinda.

During an interview on The Drew Barrymore Show, Patrick revealed that he and Abby's wedding had to be postponed because of his White Lotus filming schedule. 'Finally, a year and a half ago, we got engaged. And it was our moment, it was this great thing,' he told Drew. 'And a few days later, I booked White Lotus, and I was like, 'Abby, I know we're in this high of engagement, and we're gonna get married this year. But we're going to have to push it. I got White Lotus, and I'm going to film for the next seven months in Thailand.'' As for Abby's reaction? She was a supportive partner who cheered Patrick on as he landed the breakout role. If you thought the end of Summer House and Southern Charm's respective seasons would bring an end to the drama betweenPaige DeSorbo and Craig Conover, you've clearly never been through a Bravo breakup. Case in point: Just this week, Paige said that Craig never bought her an engagement ring before their split, despite what he told Bravo boss Andy Cohen. Quick catch up: During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live! in March, Craig told Andy that he had 'just returned' the engagement ring he bought for Paige that morning. 'I just don't need custody of it anymore, so I took it back to the guy,' he said. At the same time, he revealed that he was seeing someone new—later identified as Natalie Buffett. Clearly, he wanted it to be known that he was moving on from the drama of the breakup. But based on the Summer House season 9 reunion, he seems to have failed spectacularly. Though she didn't comment on the story at the time, Paige is speaking out now, casting doubt on Craig's story. 'That ring does not exist,' she said at the Summer House season 9 reunion. She went on to poke holes in her ex's story, calling it 'convenient' that he had decided to return the supposed ring the same morning of his Watch What Happens Live appearance. 'Him and his new girlfriend went and returned my ring? I don't think so, Andy. That's insane,' she said. Craig has yet to respond, but knowing these two, I'm sure it's only a matter of time. Ever since Paige and Craig broke up in late 2024, they've been going back and forth in the press, arguing about what really happened between them. Fans originally accused Paige of cheating (she denied it), which then led to a debate on whether or not Craig should defend her against false allegations (spoiler: he didn't even try) and Paige claiming that Craig was texting other women (Craig denies cheating). The whole split has gotten pretty messy. And with both parties continuing to take swipes at each other, it's pretty clear that this is one mess that isn't going to get cleaned up anytime soon.

The 36-year-old reality star filed for divorce from her 'Vanderpump Rules' co-star Jax, 45, in 2024 after five years of marriage but admitted that their four-year-old son Cruz makes her "happy" and leaves her feeling "proud" on a daily basis. She told UsWeekly: "The peace in my house is something that I feel like is helping him. "It's helping me. It's helping everything. Because whenever I had to deal with that negative energy every day, I mean, it was wearing on me. He deserves a happy mama. "He's starting to say a couple more words. He is just such a good kid. He's so happy. He's always smiling and laughing, and he's just catching up in his own way. It's beautiful to see because whenever you have a kid on the spectrum, you celebrate every little milestone because you wait for it — and then it happens and it's the best day ever. Jax - who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in September 2024 - recently said he thinks his marriage could have been saved if he'd received his diagnosis sooner. He said on the 'In the Mind of Jax Taylor' podcast: "This is the first time in my 45 years of life that I had to ask for help because I just couldn't do it anymore. "I just, I couldn't bear the weight. And I just - I surrendered. I surrendered." Jax has been using a mood stabiliser called Lamotrigine, and it's actually changed his life. He shared: "I'm on it, and I absolutely love it." Last month, Jax - who had recently celebrated 100 days of sobriety, having previously discussed his substance abuse issues - opened up about his rehab stay, having checked himself into a mental health facility in 2024. He said: "I had all these other issues because I'm masking loneliness. I'm masking the texting women by doing drugs and drinking alcohol. "I have all these other issues. So it's a slow process, which is hard for me because I always look for the quick fix. "This is one of those things in life that it's not a quick fix. You have to work at it. I'm not used to that.'
