Bicycle ‘chop shop' discovered at Kitchener home: police

(Courtesy: Waterloo Regional Police Service) The Waterloo Regional Police Service has recovered more than $25,000 in bicycles and parts after they said they found a 'chop shop' in Kitchener. On Thursday, officers searched a home as part of an ongoing investigation that began after a stolen bike was found inside a residence near King Street West and Green Street. Officers said in addition to the original bike, numerous other bicycles and parts were found at a nearby home. The investigation in ongoing. In the meantime, officers will be trying to return the bicycles they found to their proper owners.

Each community has different rules and regulations surrounding personal light shows. Most don't allow fireworks to be set off on public property, including parks, roads and sidewalks. Anyone who defies the bylaws could face a steep fine. In the Region of Waterloo, that can be as much as $2,000. Of course, many cities are planning their own fireworks shows for Canada Day. Two GTA men charged with Kitchener break-ins
Items seized by Waterloo Regional Police and Ontario Provincial Police during a break-in investigation. (Source: WRPS) Two men, one from Toronto and the other from Mississauga, have been charged in connection to a series of break-and-enters in Kitchener. Homeowners reported three break-ins in the Doon South area on June 18, as well as one more at a residence in the Deer Ridge neighbourhood. The Waterloo Regional Police Service said four males were involved. They allegedly took jewelry and cash from the homes. On June 19, Waterloo Regional Police and Ontario Provincial Police carried out a search warrant in Shelburne, Ont. They also arrested two men. A 23-year-old from Toronto was charged with four counts of break and enter and commit theft, as well as possession of stolen property. Waterloo Regional Police said he was also wanted by two other police departments on gun-related charges and break and enter. The other man, a 30-year-old from Mississauga, was charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000. Police did not say what they recovered from the Shelburne property, but did share images of baseball cards, cash and a designer pursue. The investigation into the Kitchener break-ins continues.

Three police services worked together to locate person in crisis
A person is getting mental health help after the Waterloo Regional Police Service called on the Stratford Police Service and Ontario Provincial Police to track them down. On Wednesday, around 2 a.m., Waterloo Regional Police asked Stratford Police to help them find a person who was experiencing an emotional crisis and reportedly had a handgun. When investigators pinged the person's phone, it showed they were between the jurisdictions covered by the Stratford Police Service and Perth County OPP Investigators found the vehicle they were looking for on Orr Street, in the city of Stratford, around 3 a.m. Due to concerns about the alleged handgun, officers cordoned off the area and the Stratford Police Service called in a Light Armoured Vehicle. The person was found safe inside a home, but officers did not find a gun. The person was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and taken to a local hospital to receive mental health support.
