Frensham pond no-swim alert issued over blue-green algae fears
People visiting a pond in Surrey have been urged not to enter the water after a suspected outbreak of blue-green Environment Agency (EA) is in the process of confirming the presence of the algae in Frensham Great Pond, Waverley Borough Council (WBC) has the meantime, swimmers have been warned off the pond until further is the third consecutive year where there has been an outbreak at the popular beauty spot - the council issued similar warnings in both July 2023 and 2024. There is no way of removing the algae from the water once it is established, WBC suspected blue-green algae this year is only starting to bloom and is not so clearly visible at EA has been approached for a comment.

Community champions urged to apply for new scheme Those chosen will get use of facilities at their local leisure centres to help them carry out their projects A new "community champion" scheme offering free use of leisure centres in parts of Surrey for local projects is calling for people to apply. Everyone Active, which runs leisure centres in Haslemere, Godalming, Farnham and Cranleigh, has launched its Community Champions initiative, aiming to "recognise the dedication of those who go above and beyond". Those involved in mentoring, promoting health and wellbeing, supporting inclusivity or leading environmental or cultural projects are urged to apply for the scheme, which is run in partnership with Waverley Borough Council. Successful applicants will secure use of facilities at their local leisure centres to help them carry out their projects.
