Weber County Sheriff's Office mourns passing of K-9 Nova

OGDEN, Utah (ABC4) — The Weber County Sheriff's Office is mourning the loss of one its Police Service Dogs, K-9 Nova. In a Facebook post by the Weber County Sheriff's Office on Sunday, the department announced that K-9 Nova passed away on Saturday, June 7 due to an unexpected medical condition, and was just shy of two years old. K-9 Nova joined the Sheriff's Office in November 2024 and immediately began narcotics detection along side her handler, Deputy Nielsen. K-9 Nova was attending a narcotics detection certification course at the time of her passing, with the department adding that Nova showed 'tremendous promise' In their statement, the department adds: 'Nova was more than just a partner in service — she was a beloved member of Deputy Nielsen's family, where she was deeply cherished and udoubtedly spoiled with love and care.' The statement ends with: 'Our heartfelt condolences go out to Deputy Nielsen, his family, and all of Nova's extended work family at WCSO. Thank you for your service, Nova. You will forever remain part of our family and will never be forgotten.
