The mother-in-law has been threatening to wear white on the bride's wedding day, even sending her texts with examples of dresses
Commenters think she should ignore the woman and have her fiancé deal with his motherOne bride's future mother-in-law is on the verge of a major wedding day faux pas.
The future newlywed took to Reddit's Wedding Drama subreddit to share her struggles with her future mother-in-law. Noting that she and her fiancé recently got engaged, the poster said 'everyone was really happy and excited for us,' at first, but then her partner's mother changed her tone.
'My MIL started 'jokingly' saying that I should watch out because she might just show up to the wedding wearing a white dress,' the bride wrote. 'These were her literal words, in the MIDDLE of our engagement dinner.'
At the time, the bride said her future husband 'tried to divert the topic of the conversation' and 'kept telling her that everyone knew she wouldn't dare (as a warning).'
However, a week later, the future mother-in-law was continuing to text the bride about wearing white to the wedding.
'She's been sending me screenshots of white dresses she's found around that she 'might want to wear to the big day!'" the poster said. 'What should I do? I'm starting to get really angry, but I don't want to start an argument with her either.'
She added that her fiancé's mother is 'very dramatic' and thinks that if she confronts her 'it will influence her mood throughout the whole wedding planning.'
Most of the commenters urged the bride to ignore her future mother-in-law and have her fiancé take over communication with her.
'I have been replying with messages that avoid the main point of the issue, like, 'haha, yeah Debs (not her real name), slit dresses are your thing after all!' ' the OP (original poster) replied. 'But I also don't know if I should ignore her 100%? Should I? He's been helping as much as he can. I asked him if he talked to her about this and he said he has and to please be patient with her 'jokes.' But it just gets on my nerves.'
Others felt the mother-in-law was intentionally riling her up.

'Yes, I feel like she's setting me up in a way,' the bride replied. 'She tends to play mind games and, like I said, I don't want to end up being the bad guy in the story. So I guess I'll just let him deal with her. Idk, I feel like I'm depending too much on him, maybe that's silly.'
One commenter had a particularly creative solution.
'Please make sure to enlist one of your bridesmaids to spill a large glass of red wine down her front if she does this,' the commenter wrote.
