'Next British fashion era' looms as major shakeup to London Fashion Week is announced

London Fashion Week announcement from British Fashion Council's new chief executive looks set to take event beyond the central city with big plans for an industry reset to address 'losing talent' fears London Fashion Week is a massive event that's recognised across the globe with British and international designers' clothes featuring on the glamorous catwalk. Fashion shows take place in several spots across the city, as models showcase the latest collections, but now, a shake up has been announced with plans to move some of the focus beyond central London. The stylish event has been going since 1984 - and it's built up a huge reputation, aligning with other huge fashion shows across the world, with Milan, Paris, New York and London being known as the "big four". Industry professionals and fashion conscious onlookers watch the glamorous shows and fab new designs parade the catwalk - and it's impressive - but it's about to move to a new era. ‌ British Fashion Council's (BFC) new chief executive, Laura Weir, has been in the role for less than 80 days, but she's just announced the "next British fashion era" awaits - and she wants to revitalise the fashion industry. Speaking at the BFC's summer party at the Serpentine Pavilion in Kensington Gardens, Laura said it was time for a "reset". ‌ She addressed fears that London has been losing talent to Paris, Milan and Berlin, but set out her plan to prioritise British fashion's global reputation. Laura's plans for the fashion industry include "moving beyond central London" with a focus on 'touching communities that have never touched fashion before - until now." In her first speech as chief executive at the BFC summer party, she said: 'As I take on this role, I'm aware that the task ahead is Herculean - revitalising a sustainable fashion economy for our British designers in the UK and globally is a long-term mission. I took this job because I care about the creative and commercial success of British fashion, and I won't rest until my tenure has had a positive impact on its global reputation." ‌ Laura unveiled several strategies that will update and refresh the fashion economy, particularly for British designers. She said infrastructure is needed to support British designers so they are able to make, create and show their designs in the country - and the all important aspect of industry growth for homegrown fashion needs to be addressed, she said. For more stories like this subscribe to our weekly newsletter, The Weekly Gulp, for a curated roundup of trending stories, poignant interviews, and viral lifestyle picks from The Mirror's Audience U35 team delivered straight to your inbox. ‌ Speaking at the Serpentine Pavilion she said: 'I am still shaping my strategy, and my intention is to build on the great foundations of the BFC - to put designers at the heart, to make mentoring and business skills central to our offer and to ensure our funding models result in long-term impact for the British creative economy. "Every event and showcase we host will be intentional and magnetic and the BFC's work internationally on behalf of our members, will mark a new era of post-Brexit cultural diplomacy." In a changing society, she acknowledged that fashion is "not just about shows and clothes." Laura described fashion as giving us a "preview of society's next chapter" adding that 'it's time to write a new story together'. ‌ She spoke of the importance of sustainability, said that the BFC has secured government funding for designer scholarships - and the London Fashion Week guest programme will invest more so they can welcome more international visitors to the event. Laura also said she felt that since Brexit and Covid, "we have been sleeping on the creative British asset that quite literally touches everyone." She added that Britain has designer creativity "in spades" and has done for years, but that "that investment in culture leads to the commercial and reputational success of a nation." London Fashion Week shows will hit the catwalk this September, taking place at several key spots such as Somerset House and The Truman Brewery - other interesting spaces will be announced as a surprise giving the event a fresh concept. The fashion week runs from Thursday, 18 September until Monday, 22 September in 2025 - it's a bi-annual event that runs again in June 2026. Help us improve our content by completing the survey below. 'I'm removing ribs to make my waist even smaller - girls are jealous of my body'

After going under the knife five times already, Mila is planning on getting her ribs removed in her biggest procedure yet - all to achieve an even smaller waist A woman who claims girls are 'jealous' of her body is planning on going under the knife for the sixth time - as she now wants some of her ribs removed. Rapper Mila has revealed the drastic measures she's willing to take in order to achieve her desired tiny waist. The musician has endured numerous aesthetic procedures including two Brazilian Bum Lifts (BBL), bum implants, two breast augmentations and lip fillers, and is planning her most extreme surgery yet. ‌ Mila, from China, said she already struggles to find clothes to fit her, yet she's still not happy with her curvaceous figure. Despite being trolled for her look, she says other women are just jealous of her. ‌ Her first surgery was in 2019, and now plans to remove two ribs from each side in a bid to "make my waist look even smaller and my butt look even wider". Mila said she wants people to look at her and think she's had a lot of surgery, in the hope they will think she's a "bad girl". "I'm beautiful and my body is good, so if someone wants to take a photo of me I will make a pose," she told Truly. Being told she's going to "dissolve" in the future due to the amount of plastic in her body, the comments don't bother Mila, who will continue to enhance her body even more. ‌ For more stories like this subscribe to our weekly newsletter, The Weekly Gulp, for a curated roundup of trending stories, poignant interviews, and viral lifestyle picks from The Mirror's Audience U35 team delivered straight to your inbox. "I think my look is super cute, unique and beautiful, as well as showing my personality," Mila continued. However she claimed women hate her for how she looks and thinks it's because they are worried about their boyfriends looking at her. She said it has affected friendships as women don't want her to ever meet their partners. ‌ Despite friends telling her she doesn't need her ribs removed, and worrying about the dangers of it, Mila is set on the operation. "My plan is to remove my ribs as early as I can," and has found a "very good" hospital in Russia. She is hoping to get the procedure done next year and is "so excited" for her new look. "The surgeries I have had made me look small and cute," and Mila believes her music fans buy her tickets as they want to see her in person and see her body in real life. ‌ In terms of the surgery, getting your ribs removed is not illegal, but it can come with certain risks. The ribs function to protect the underlying organs. However the ribs that are removed during a rib resection for contouring generally do not directly cover and protect the lungs, but they still represent a shield for the body. According to Dr Tim Neavin, a US plastic surgeon, the main risks of rib removal relate to the surgery itself. "Removing ribs places the pleura, the tissue covering the lungs, at risk of injury. In such cases, chest tubes would need to be placed for a period of time and patients may need to be admitted to the hospital for observation."

Ella Toone wants female footballers to get the 'recognition they deserve'

Manchester United player, Ella Toone, has launched a creative agency to help female footballer players become "household names" and nurture "solid relationships with major brands" English midfielder Ella Toone has launched a creative agency to help her fellow female footballers grow their personal brands. Instead of waiting on the side-lines for sponsorships, female players will be turned into 'household names' and 'take back control' of the talent-brand relationship under the agency's guidance. The Manchester United player co-founded her new venture Amicizia Studios with her long-term agent James Marshall. In an inaugural Instagram post in June 2025, the duo shared that there is 'no nonsense, no messing about' when it comes to the studio's mission to 'blend sports culture and creativity to bring brands and talent together'. ‌ The post continued: 'Working with great people across great brands, podcasts and other digital outlets, we're taking back control of the traditional talent/brand relationship and putting our stamp on it.' ‌ Amicizia says that while it doesn't take itself too seriously it takes a 'head down and game on' approach when it comes to campaigns. 'We're here to give women's footballers a proper platform, not just the odd collab, but solid relationships built with major brands to create opportunities that turn players into household names.' The studio will serve as a platform to connect female footballers with brand partnerships, marketing campaigns and production opportunities. It will also offer services including content development, creative consultancy and PR to connect women's athletes with brands. ‌ Toone and Marshall hope to boost female players to maximise their earning potential. In their vision statement reported by Forbes, Amicizia says it wants to help players show off their personalities as well as get 'the recognition and the proper fees they deserve'. For more stories like this subscribe to our weekly newsletter, The Weekly Gulp, for a curated roundup of trending stories, poignant interviews, and viral lifestyle picks from The Mirror's Audience U35 team delivered straight to your inbox. ‌ Amicizia Studios will also serve as a creative hub for Toone to produce her own content. She is a particularly savvy creator and has taken her own brand seriously for years now. In 2023, she became the first Lioness to trademark her own name and launched the ET7 brand. Under ET7, Toone also launched the ET7 Academy to create a supportive space for girls aged 8-19 to play football under the guise of FA-accredited coaches. With over 50% of Women's Super League players currently without sponsorship, Amicizia addresses a gap in the relationship between brands and female footballers. ‌ 'There's a really big gap in the market. Women's football is growing and growing, and more brands can be involved in that,' Toone told Marketing Week. Toone is in Switzerland with the Lionesses at the moment for the UEFA Women's Euro 2025. They suffered a disappointing 2-1 loss in their opening match against France but Georgia Stanway said England were 'done talking' about it and were ready to get 'stuck in' against the Dutch on Wednesday, July 9. Toone is confident England can use that experience to rebound on Wednesday. 'I mean mentally I think we're strong anyway,' she said. Help us improve our content by completing the survey below. Bodycare brand loved by Kim K to pay homage to LGBTQ+ community in London event

A luxury cosmetics brand, cherished by Kim Kardashian and other celebs, will return with its annual library event to provide a platform for trans and non-binary authors One of Kim Kardashian's most-trusted bodycare brands has confirmed it will clear its shelves to honour Pride and its many queer icons. The premium brand Aesop has been snapped in several posts uploaded by the fashion mogul, most notably its Reverence Aromatique hand wash pictured in the businesswoman 's bathroom. This £33 hand wash, and its accompanying products, are firm favourites, not just amongst celebs but all Aesop customers. ‌ Now, after launching its Queer Library in 2021 to provide a spotlight for LGBTQIA+ authors, Aesop continues to expand its platform into the initiative's fifth year, this year in London. ‌ "The Queer Library affirms literature's ability to broaden minds and embolden individuals, and seeks to provide a platform for underrepresented voices," The Australian cosmetics brand explained, before confirming that "This year, the Library celebrates the liberating possibilities of LGBTQIA+ self-expression, with a particular focus on trans and non-binary voices." Trans refers to transgender, when someone feels their gender is different from, or doesn't sit comfortably with, the sex they were registered at birth, while Non-binary is the term for those whose gender identity falls outside of the traditional man/woman label. Trans artist, Tourmaline is the author of this iteration's hero title, with their work focussing on Marsha P. Johnson's struggle for queer rights. For more stories like this subscribe to our weekly newsletter, The Weekly Gulp, for a curated roundup of trending stories, poignant interviews, and viral lifestyle picks from The Mirror's Audience U35 team delivered straight to your inbox. ‌ "Marsha's life reminds us that the work of liberation isn't just about protest; it's also about sparkle, about softness, about staying alive and helping others stay alive, too," Tourmaline explained. The brand's Lexington Street store, in London, will offer complimentary books by LGBTQIA+ authors, from Friday (July 4) until Sunday (July 6), to celebrate the written word. Aesop added: "In addition to perusing the shelves, this year visitors will be able to express themselves through an interactive literary card game of sorts, based on the archetypal Aesop fable 'The North Wind and the Sun'—a tale about the value of gentle persuasion over force. ‌ "Visitors can draw a selection of cards, each imprinted with a word from the fable—using them as creative prompts, they will have an opportunity to reveal their own take on the story." The library's reading list is curated by independent bookstore and queer institution, Gay's The Word, designed to promote marginalised trans and non-binary voices, along with titles selected by Aesop team members. ‌ While some of the reading materials were sourced by the bookstore, many were purchased "at a generous discount from Penguin and a variety of other publishers." The event will coincide with the Pride in London parade, taking place on Saturday. Last year's event saw more than 35,000 people take to the streets to celebrate their identity, accompanied by thumping pop tunes and colourful displays.
