Body found near Taylor Swift's home identified: Who was Eric Wein, the 13th victim of the Rhode Island's serial killer havoc?
Taylor Swift's Rhode Island mansion has been in the news lately, with growing fear gripping the neighbourhood. On May 14, police discovered human remains, specifically, a leg bone, near Watch Hill. The area is counted among the most posh in Westerly, and it also happens to be where Swift owns her $17.75 million beachside mansion. Weeks later, on June 18, after a long investigation, police confirmed the remains belonged to Eric Wein, a 31-year-old man from Massachusetts who had gone missing on April 18. Here's everything to know about the case. According to the authorities, the location where Eric's body was found was 'a couple of football fields away' from her house. On Wednesday, the South Kingstown Police Department, referring to the state's medical examiner, released a statement confirming the identity of the deceased. The 31-year-old, who went missing last month, had already had his vehicle recovered from an illegal parking space. Interestingly, his car had been found on April 10, eight days before he was officially reported missing. Though the police have now closed the case, citing no foul play, and offered condolences—'We extend our deepest condolences to Mr. Wein's family and loved ones during this difficult time'—concerns over the chain of deaths have already sparked fear among locals. Since March, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Connecticut have reported a total of 13 bodies. But the case has gained more attention because of the pop star's name being attached and the eerie way the remains washed up so close to her mansion. Wein's body was discovered just three weeks after an unidentified male was found in the Seekonk River in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. The timing and similarity of both deaths have had everyone wondering if there's more to it. 'My mind immediately went to all the theories that are being thrown around,' a local resident told the Daily Mail. Another 35-year-old, Paige Fannon, was found in the Norwalk River in Connecticut, and almost at the same time, a human skull was discovered near Route 3 in Plymouth, Massachusetts. The grim discoveries didn't stop there. Two weeks later, Suzanne Wormser's body was identified in Groton, Connecticut, and the very next day, 59-year-old Denise Leary was found dead near her home in New Haven. Some were found in wooded areas, others near bike paths, and one woman's body was even discovered in a suitcase. So far, only one arrest has been made. Police, however, have made it very clear: there is no connection between these deaths. Westerly Police Chief Paul Gingerella, in a statement, said, 'As far as I'm concerned, as far as right now, this has nothing to do with any serial killer [or] any New England murderer.' The same was confirmed by families of one of the victims, like Michele Romano, whose relatives asked people to stop spreading conspiracy theories about her case. Residents of Watch Hill are shaken and confused. Many aren't buying the 'no foul play' statement. One local, Taylor Day, said she saw multiple police and a medical examiner on the scene. For the unversed, Swift has owned that mansion since 2013, and it's famous for her Fourth of July parties with stars like Gigi Hadid and the Haim sisters. The home was previously owned by Rebekah Harkness, who inspired Swift's track 'The Last Great American Dynasty.'

Body that washed ashore in Rhode Island identified as missing Mansfield man
A body that washed ashore in mid-May in Rhode Island has been confirmed to be that of a missing Mansfield man, authorities said. Eric A. Wein, 31, was reported missing to Mansfield Police on April 18. His vehicle was found parked illegally on Ocean Avenue in South Kingstown, Rhode Island, on April 10 and towed away. South Kingstown Police said Friday they have been notified by the Rhode Island Medical Examiners Office that the human remains that washed ashore May 14 in Westerly, Rhode Island have been positively identified as those of Wein. South Kingstown Police Chief Matthew C. Moynihan said his department has concluded its investigation and no foul play is suspected. 'We extend our deepest condolences to Mr. Wein's family and loved ones during this difficult time,' Moynihan said. Police in Rhode Island and Massachusetts actively looked for Wein after he was reported missing. In July 2022, he was arrested on several charges, including assaulting a Seekonk police officer with a large knife. Police had responded to a tow yard in the south end of Seekonk for a reported nighttime break-in in progress. Officers found Wein armed with a large, machete-like knife that was attached to his waistband. After initially obeying police orders, Wein started resisting and fighting with the officers, police said. During the altercation, one of the officers suffered injuries from the suspect's weapon, police said. The officer was taken to a medical facility and later released. Wein was charged with attempted breaking and entering, possession of a burglary instrument, assault and battery on a police officer, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, carrying a dangerous weapon and resisting arrest. New Arctic search and rescue watch adds durable features
A company that's been constructing military-grade watches for the U.S., Canada and other nations since World War II has added an arctic version of a premier search and rescue watch to its inventory. Company owner Mitchell Wein's grandfather had the good fortune of housing his watchmaking business in the same building as the Canadian Army's procurement office as the nation entered the WWII. It had only been a few years since the Marathon Watch founder had broken off from the family watch business to design his own product. Those first watches went on the wrists of soldiers headed to fight in Italy. The company eventually delivered an estimated 160,000 watches during WWII, Wein said, and has remained in the military watch game nearly ever since. 'Combining military-grade durability with precise engineering, the Original Search and Rescue with Date, or OSAR-D, builds on Marathon Watch's legacy of the original 41mm SAR, which set the standard for Search and Rescue timepieces in the early 2000s,' according to a company release. The expanded OSAR-D family of watches maintains the enhanced features introduced last year with the launch of the 41mm OSAR-D with black dial. Those include the improved MaraGlo illumination, larger indices and increased clarity on the cyclops date window. The company also added the Arctic white dial, which is designed to improve legibility in bright conditions, offering unparalleled readability in extreme environments. All the company's timepieces are powered by Marathon x Sellita automatic movements. The SW-200 movement drives 36mm and 41mm sizes. The 46mm jumbo edition is equipped with the new SW600 movement, which includes a 62-hour power reserve, now the largest power reserve Marathon has to date. Each OSAR-D model is also fitted with an Incabloc shock absorber to reinforce its durability. The 41mm size watches are available for preorder, with shipments slated for mid-May, company officials said. Prices start at $1,500 with the 3-piece rubber strap kit. The stainless steel bracelet option costs $1,800. The 36mm and 46mm sizes will be available in late 2025, with prices ranging from $1,000 to $2,500. The company built its general-purpose mechanical watch in 1976 for the U.S. military and started building chronometers for ships in the early 1980s, Wein said. 'We didn't really make money on the government watches,' Wein said, adding that they would get orders of 7,000 or 11,000 watches and make between $3.50 and $5 per watch. One of the reasons mechanical watches remain part of military inventory in an age of their smart counterparts is that mechanical timekeeping remains impervious to electromagnetic pulse tactics that could blow out any electronics in range. They also do not emit a signal that can be detected by electromagnetic warfare tools. And then there's the battery, or lack thereof, which adds to their long-lasting durability. The watch can operate for 30 years, as compared to a traditional quartz watch that usually requires a new battery every six years. Special, synthetic oil blends keep the watch going. Those only need replacement every 15 years or so, Wein said. Tritium gas tubes that provide glow in the dark features stay bright for 12 to 25 years.
