Motherwell 3, Morton 0: Well boss pleased to reach last-16 in cup

But Jens Berthel Askou denies Lennon Miller is in Italy A first goal in seven months for Aussie striker Apostolos Stamatelopoulos inspired a Motherwell win that puts them into the last 16. ‌ The 26-year-old's strike in 52 minutes put the Steelmen on their way to victory, with Tawanda Maswanhise's double making sure of a win that takes Jens Berthel Askou's outfit into the knockouts as Group G victors on 11 points. ‌ Stamatelopoulos' strike was his first since a 2-2 draw against Rangers on December 29, having endured months of an injury nightmare. For Maswanhise, it was his fourth in the competition. ‌ Askou – who denied midfielder Lennon Miller is in Italy for talks – said: 'When there's something concrete to comment on, we will. 'The goal was to get to the next round. 'We're pleased to finish with the strongest performance in the group stage. Tawanda has the potential to be a very important player for us. 'Apostolos' first goal in seven months... I don't care and I don't think he cares how it came.' Well had a penalty claim waved away in six minutes when Stamatelopoulos went down under a Kris Moore challenge and they dominated throughout. ‌ As if often the case, Morton nearly took the lead in the 31st minute when Tomi Adeloye fired just over. Six minutes later, Adeloye sent himself through with a neat flick and went down under a challenge from Paul McGinn but ref Ryan Lee was not interested. Morton boss Dougie Imrie was booked for protesting. Well went ahead seven minutes after the break, when Emmanuel Longelo's cross from the left was met on the volley by Johnny Koutroumbis and parried by James Storer, but Stamatelopoulos bundled the rebound over. Come 83 minutes, Liam Gordon sent Maswanhise through to curl past Storer. And he bagged his second with a curling finish into the top right corner from 25 yards out, three minutes into stoppage time.

Asked if he was in talks with a club, Askou said: 'There's nothing new on Lennon. 'He wasn't able to be here but I will hopefully see him on Thursday after our day off and we will take it from there. 'There are lots of rumours on Lennon. 'I have heard a lot of funny stories but he is still a Motherwell player. 'We are very happy to have him and he is happy to be here. 'When there is something concrete, we will say. But I look forward to seeing him this week.' Tawanda Maswanhise grabbed a brilliant double after Apostolos Stamatelopoulos' opener against Morton. Gaffer Askou believes his Well team are starting to click as they turned on the style at Fir Park. Scotland youth international Lennon Miller scores from his own half on his debut for the Under-16s against England He said: 'A lot of the stuff we have been trying to implement worked and we were effective in front of goal. 'We scored some beautiful goals and I am happy for Apostolos and Tawanda. 'It was a good performance as a team and we showed individual quality too. 'Our intensity was great off the ball and our counter-pressing was extraordinary at times.' On a lush surface, Well zipped the ball about as they pinned Morton back from the off. It was one-way traffic for the first half hour, with Fir Park keeper Calum Ward a spectator. Elijah Just was bright for Well and had a shot deflected wide after some nice play. Stamatelopoulos headed wide and Just had a tame effort saved by James Storer. But Well kept probing and Callum Slattery fired a free-kick wide before setting up Stamatelopoulos with a clever set-piece. The Aussie connected well enough but couldn't keep his shot down. Morton were struggling to get up the pitch but almost took a shock lead in 31 minutes. Grant Gillespie's cross was perfect for Tomi Adeloye but he scooped his shot over the bar from close range. 3 Lennon Miller looks on during the International Friendly match Credit: Getty That was a major let-off for Well - but there was an even bigger one to come before the break. Adeloye took advantage of a mix-up between Paul McGinn and Liam Gordon to race through on goal. He looked certain to score but fell under the Motherwell skipper's last-gasp challenge. The Ton players screamed for a penalty but ref Ryan Lee instead gave a corner. Boss Dougie Imrie was raging and was booked for taking his protests too far. Well's pressure finally told in 52 minutes as Stamatelopoulos bundled in the opener. Storer denied Johnny Koutroumbis with a top save but the Well striker reacted quickest to score from a yard. Maswanhise killed the game off in 83 minutes when he latched onto Liam Gordon's pass and slotted in. And there was even better to come from the Well forward in injury-time when he curled a stunner into the top corner from 25 yards. Ton boss Imrie said: 'It was a stonewall penalty and that was a big moment in the game, but Motherwell played a lot of good stuff. "It was disappointing to lose the late goals but overall, it was a step up for us." Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

Google slammed over ‘utter nonsense' video doorbell subscription fee hike – three alternatives people are switching to

HOUSEHOLDS using Google's home security gadgets have hit out at the company's decision to raise subscription fees. Nest is a popular rival to Ring, with doorbell and video camera devices among the portfolio. 2 Google acquired Nest for $3.2billion in 2014 Credit: Getty 2 Customers will have to pay at least £2 / $2 more a month for their subscription Credit: Getty The devices are free to use for live monitoring and answering to whoever is knocking at the door. But much like Ring, if you want to store video recordings in the Well, that fee is rising from next month and customers have called it "utter nonsense". "I'd rather throw my Nest devices in the trash and outlay the upfront cost for another brand rather than be subject to another price increase," one user raged on Reddit. Read more about Google "It's getting hard to support Google/Nest when they keep f***ing us over," another commented. "We have had Nest Aware for many years now and after today's email enough is enough," a third person wrote. The increases are coming for customers in the UK and US. Nest Aware, which provides 30 days of event video history, is going up by £2 / $2 a month to £8 / $10. Most read in Tech For an annual subscription, it'll now set you back £80 / $100, up from £60 / $80 previously. Black bear stuns homeowners by ringing doorbell Until now, you'd have to pay £12 / $15 per month, but going forward it'll be £16 / $20, an increase of £4 / $5. The same goes for annual subscriptions, which jump from £120 / $150 a year, to £160 / $200. "Subscription prices can change to keep up with market shifts, which can include inflation and local tax updates," Google says. "We'll notify you through email at least 30 days ahead of a price increase in your country or territory." TIME TO SWITCH? By Jamie Harris, Assistant Technology and Science Editor at The Sun Naturally at times like this, customers start to consider if it's time to switch to another provider. That obviously means the potentially expensive task of replacing all your existing gadgets before you feel any long-term savings. When it comes to video doorbells and home security cams, the fees come from video storage on the cloud. But there are some brands that allow you to store videos locally on your own hard drive instead, so you don't need to pay extra. You'll need to clear the videos routinely otherwise you're going to need a lot of hard drives - and they're going to cost you more than using the cloud. Some of the brands people have mentioned they are switching to online include: Eufy Ubiquiti Tapo So if you're affected and considering a switch, it might be worth doing a bit of research on these.

Motherwell 2, Peterhead 1: Well survive Blue Toon scare in Premier Sports Cup

Lukas Fadinger's last-gasp winner earned first victory for Steelmen Motherwell boss Jens Berthel Askou insists his side have come further than he expected in pre-season, as they saw off Peterhead with a last-minute winner last night. ‌ Lukas Fadinger headed home in added time to hand Askou his first win as Motherwell boss, after Emmanuel Longelo had cancelled out Jack Brown's shock opener. ‌ That handed Motherwell their first win in the Premier Sports Cup group stages, having drawn 2-2 at League Two Clyde on Saturday, with the Premiership side winning the shoot-out 5-4 to take the extra point. ‌ Askou said: 'It was an important three points. I think we did really well to live up to being favourites. We tried to take control of the game from the beginning and drove the tempo up as high as we could. 'I think the boys were excellent in terms of making it really difficult for Peterhead to get something from the game. 'Obviously there were a few mistakes in the first half that we are trying to get rid of, but I think that will come. We will make less and less of these mistakes and see more quality in our attacking game. 'We know these players will grow and improvement will come. 'We've come a lot further than I expected we would at the moment, in terms of composure, structure, bravery and quality. Some of the stuff in the early build-up has been really good and I am very confident it will get better and better.' Askou handed a debut to kid keeper Matty Connelly in place of Calum Ward, as one of six changes from the draw in Hamilton. ‌ Skipper Paul McGinn, Tom Sparrow, Longelo, Elijah Just and Eseosa Sule also came in for Kofi Balmer, Apostolos Stamatelopolous, Stephen O'Donnell, Andy Halliday and Tawanda Maswanhise. Teenage star Lennon Miller was once again missing amid heightened transfer rumours and Askou revealed: 'He has had a little thing that we are assessing day by day. Tonight was too early still.' ‌ The Well defence was caught napping on nine minutes as the Blue Toon took the lead. Brown left two defenders in his wake as he latched on to Cammy Smith's flick to race into the box and slot past Connelly. It could have been 2-0 10 minutes later when Peterhead cut open the Well defence again with neat play on the edge of the box, but Longelo cleared Peter Pawlett's effort. ‌ The former West Ham left-back was key at the other end too, smashing home Fadinger's cross to level. Connelly then gifted the visitors a big chance when he played a pass in between two defenders in his box. Max Berry pounced on the loose ball and slipped in Smith, but Connelly atoned with a strong block to turn his strike behind. ‌ Askou threw on Andy Halliday and Ewan Wilson for Longelo and Just at the break, quickly followed by Saturday's two-goal hero Maswanhise and Stamatelopoulos. The two strikers almost made an instant impact but Maswanhise's cross just evaded the head of Stamatelopoulos. ‌ Caleb Goldie's point-blank block denied Slattery as Well turned the screw. Stamatelopoulos should have done better with a header in 74 minutes and Fadinger had a volley cleared off the line as the pressure mounted. But Fadinger wasn't to be denied and with penalties looming, he headed the winner. Askou said: 'I think there is a big danger in just analysing the result and saying because we got the goal at the end, that means that we are believing in what we are doing. 'I think we could see a team that had very strong belief in each other throughout the game, no matter if we scored five goals or it had been 1-1.'

Patience is key as late goal earns Berthel Askou first Motherwell win

Jens Berthel Askou put his first win as Motherwell boss down to patience after they came from behind to beat Peterhead 2-1 with a last-gasp winner. The Steelmen, who drew 2-2 away to Clyde in their Premier Sports Cup opener at the weekend before winning the penalty shoot-out, fell a goal behind after eight minutes following a strike from Jack Brown. However, Well asserted themselves against the League One side and their equaliser came in the 29th minute through full-back Emmanuel Longelo, making his first start since signing from West Ham. And in stoppage time, with the game heading for another shoot-out, Austrian striker Lukas Fadinger converted a Callum Slattery cross, his first goal for the Lanarkshire side keeping the three points at Fir Park. Askou, appointed as Well boss in June, told BBC Radio Scotland: 'Overall it was a very good performance. 'Obviously, there were a few mistakes here and there and some quality we need to raise in our final third. That's also the most difficult thing to get right. 'Big credit to Peterhead, they defended with heart and soul and did well in many phases of the game. 'It also shows that sometimes football is about being patient and believing in what you're doing, and eventually you get the reward. That was something we discussed after the last game when we got a little bit impatient and too much frustration. 'The body language today was spot on throughout the whole game, even in the difficult periods. The second half was almost perfect.'
