Man dies in incident at West Bay's East Cliff beach
A man has died in an incident on Dorset's Jurassic services were called to East Cliff at West Bay shortly after 08:40 BST to reports of a man in need of medical Regis lifeboat and the air ambulance attended but the man died at the Police said his death was not being treated as suspicious and his family had been informed. Dorset Council warns of scam QR codes found at seaside car parks
A council has warned drivers of scam QR code stickers that have been put on some of its parking Council said it found the fake digital codes in car parks across the West Bay codes can direct users to a fake website designed to look like a legitimate parking payment local authority has made clear to residents and visitors that QR codes are not used at any of its car parks. It added payments at council car parks must be be made by cash, card or through the official JustPark Jon Andrews, Dorset Council's cabinet member for place services, said: "We are very concerned about this scam and the risk it poses to the public."If you see a QR code on a parking machine, do not scan it. Please report it to our parking services team straight away so we can investigate and remove it."If anyone believes they have entered their payment details on one of the scam websites they should report it to Action Fraud and alert Dorset Council's parking team. Auctioned elephant statue donated back to Bridport
One of a group of 30 painted elephant statues sold at auction has been donated back to a Dorset moulded fibreglass herd spent two months on display at outdoor locations in west Dorset as part of a family trail, entitled Stampede by the Sea, to raise money for Weldmar elephant called Ropey - named after Bridport's rope-making history - was bought by a local holiday company and donated to the town's council said it would tour Ropey around the area for photo opportunities to raise more money for the hospice. In a statement, the town council said "huge thanks" to West Dorset Holiday Cottage for donating Ropey after paying £3,600 for her at the auction."We hope that her tour will raise more money for Weldmar Hospicecare and their vital services which hugely benefit our town," it asked for suggestions for any potential host charity placed more than 50 elephants, painted by different artists, at locations in Bridport, Lyme Regis and West Bay in March. They were auctioned off last week, raising more than £180, anonymous buyer paid the top price of £25,000 for an elephant called Sanctuary, painted with images of wildlife and statue, featuring images of Dorset figures ranging from author Thomas Hardy to BBC Radio Solent presenter Steve Harris, fetched £20, firm Wild In Art has created statues for trails around the country, with most of the figures being sold for good causes, raising more than £27m. Temporary resin fix for West Bay's crumbling harbour walls
Resin is to be in injected into a crumbling harbour wall to stabilise it ahead of the busy tourist season.A footpath along the harbour wall in West Bay, Dorset, has been closed for eight months after cracks led to fears it could sheet piling was installed in February and March to prevent further deterioration ahead of the "interim measure".Dorset Council says major, "lasting" works on the structure are due to begin in October. Scaffolding installed for the sheet piling will be reconfigured to create a platform for contractors to carry out the geopolymer injection structure will be returned to its original configuration ahead of the summer Council said access to businesses would not be affected and shops and cafes would remain open as services councillor Jon Andrews said: "These repairs are vital to ensuring the long-term stability of West Bay Harbour, a key part of our coastal infrastructure. "We appreciate the patience and co-operation of local businesses and residents as we carry out these essential works. "Our priority is to complete them efficiently while minimising disruption, and we are grateful for the continued support of the community."
