Rules to follow when it comes to fireworks in Sioux City
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — As the Fourth of July holiday creeps ever closer, the City of Sioux City has issued a reminder on what their fireworks policies are. The city's municipal code outlines firework usage in Chapter 19.20, and the rules are also outlined on the city's website. To break it down, fireworks are only allowed to be set off during the Independence Day holiday and the night of New Year's Eve. Fireworks can be set off on July 3 between 9 a.m. and 10 p.m. and on July 4 from 9 a.m. until 11 p.m. At this time, the city's policy on these times is under consideration by the city council. In Sioux City, residents are prohibited from setting off fireworks at public parks, on city-owned property, or in a public roadway. Fireworks are also required to be set off by someone who isn't intoxicated. Violations may be reported to the Sioux City Police Department, and those caught violating the rules could face between $250 to $500 in fines. The city has also provided the following safety guidelines to make sure your Fourth of July is as safe as possible: Never allow children to play with or ignite fireworks Always make sure the area is safe for fireworks Alcohol and fireworks do not mix. Have a designated shooter! Follow label instructions and use common sense Never point or throw fireworks at another person Never shoot fireworks in metal or glass containers Always have a garden hose nearby, hooked up to a water supply Only light one firework at a time and move back quickly Never attempt to relight a firework Dispose of spent fireworks in a bucket of water. NEVER put them in your garbage! Never experiment with homemade fireworks Keep your pets inside and comfortable Get to know your neighbors and watch out for one another Additionally, Sioux City Fire Rescue has shared a list of upcoming fireworks shows. Sioux City Public Museum to offer another Peirce Mansion tour
SIOUX CENTER, Iowa (KCAU) — The Sioux City Public Museum will soon be offering another tour of the Peirce Mansion and the nearby area. The tour will take place on June 24 and last for approximately two hours, allowing those who attend to check out the Peirce Mansion and the surrounding neighborhood. The mansion was built by Sioux City developer John Peirce. Peirce helped the city grade the hilly area and establish a cable car line that once ran the full length of Jackson Street up to 40th Street. After the house tour, the Jackson Street Walking Tour will begin at 6:30 pm. This leg of the tour will take attendees on a guided tour that explores Jackson Street and the surrounding neighborhood's history. Topics will include notable residents and architecture. Sioux City man sentenced to prison for dealing drugs near schools
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — A Sioux City man has been sentenced after pleading guilty to drug crimes. Phillip Plummer, 42, of Sioux City, was accused of conspiring to distribute meth in the Sioux City area from 2022 to 2023. In May 2023, law enforcement claimed they search Plummer's home and found 271.7 grams of pure methamphetamine, 155.6 grams of cocaine, 31.6 grams of suspected MDMA, 55.1 grams of suspected marijuana, 37.9 grams of suspected cocaine, two bags of THC gummies, and two vape pens. After pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine, one count of distribution of methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a school, and a count of distributing methamphetamine, Plummer was sentenced to 120 months in prison with 10 years of supervised release. Stray of the Day: Meet Warrior 6/13/25
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) —Meet today's Stray of the Day! Meet Warrior, a 9 to 12-month-old, male, bull terrier mix puppy that weighs about 35-pounds. He was found on the 2600 block of Shields Avenue. The rescue said he's a friendly pup who gets along well with people and other animals. The rescue added he's house-broken and is the perfect size to be a family pet in just about any household. Warrior is available for adoption now. New art exhibit in Sioux City Art Center
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — A new exhibit at the Sioux City Art Center opened on June 12. A Certain Cadence of Night by artist Duane Slick is the most recent 1-person exhibition in Iowa. The art center officials say the paintings showcase his broad creative output in paintings, on paper, along with a video installation produced in collaboration with Martin Slick. Slick's work is inspired by modernist abstraction and includes Native American stylizations. He spoke to KCAU about the importance of showing his artwork in Sioux City.
