Western Carolina pitcher, McDowell alum Dusty Revis picked by Seattle Mariners in 2025 MLB Draft
Western Carolina baseball pitcher Dusty Revis, a McDowell alum, was selected in the 11th round of the 2025 MLB Draft on July 14, going 332nd overall to the Seattle Mariners. The 6-foot-2 right hander made 15 starts for the Catamounts as a redshirt junior in 2025, going 7-5 with a 4.04 ERA and 78 strikeouts in 82⅓ innings pitched. He earned the win in Western Carolina's 8-7 upset victory over Maryland on Feb. 21, striking out three and allowing two earned runs in 4⅔ innings. Advertisement Revis started his career at Mars Hill, where he made 13 appearances over two seasons. In 2023, he pitched in 11 games, going 1-3 with 43 strikeouts and a 4.73 ERA in 53⅓ innings. Revis isn't the only former McDowell standout to be selected in the MLB draft. Greg Holland was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 10th round of the 2007 MLB Draft and went on to be a three-time All-Star, helping the team make a run to the World Series in 2014. He also converted 32 saves in 48 games on the Royals' World Series team in 2015, but didn't pitch in the postseason. At McDowell, Revis went 6-0 with a 1.89 in his senior season in 2021, helping the Titans to a 14-2 record and a Northwestern Conference title. He struck out 68 batters while walking only four in 40⅔ innings pitched. He also batted .373 with 11 RBIs, four doubles and two home runs. It marks the fifth consecutive year Western Carolina has had a player selected in the MLB Draft. The Catamounts did not have a player drafted in the shortened five-round 2020 draft but had two players selected in 2019. The Golden State Warriors have had over 600 players don the more than 60 jersey numbers used by their players over the more than 75 years of existence the team has enjoyed in its rich and storied history. Advertisement To commemorate the players who wore those numbers, Warriors Wire is covering the entire history of jersey numbers and the players who sported them since the founding of the team. After ending his college career at Western Carolina University, Wilson was picked up with the 101st overall selection (there were many more rounds in that era of the draft) of the 1978 NBA draft by the Golden State Warriors. The Gastonia, North Carolina native played just 16 games before leaving the league for good in 1979. UNC basketball 2024-25 player review: Ty Claude
UNC basketball 2024-25 player review: Ty Claude The 2024-25 UNC basketball season is in the books, and with that, it's time for our player season reviews for the campaign. And today we start with forward Ty Claude. The 6-foot-7, 230-pound Greensboro, North Carolina native joined North Carolina for his senior year after playing two seasons at Morehead State, one year at Western Carolina and one year at Georgia Tech. He was one of a few players who committed to the Tar Heels out of the transfer portal with the hope of providing depth in the front court. In the past, Claude did put up big numbers, including a season in which he averaged 15.4 points and 8.6 rebounds per game in 2022-23, but that was with Western Carolina. With power fives, his numbers lowered. 2024-25 stats: 1.2 points, 1.6 rebounds, 50 percent shooting in 20 games and 1 game started. Season in Review Even with questions in North Carolina's frontcourt, Claude found himself buried in the rotation behind Jalen Washington, Ven-Allen Lubin and Jae-Lyn Withers. He never really found his role despite appearing in 20 games and hit double digits in minutes just three times this season. Claude did have a season-high seven points in a win over American back in November but as the season went on, his role quickly diminished. It didn't help that UNC struggled throughout the year but it did give him a few chances to get some playing time as Davis turned to him to help off the bench with his big guys were struggling or got into foul trouble. What's next? Claude has officially exhausted eligibility, playing in his fifth and final season. With the extra Covid-19 year now gone, he cannot return for another year. Whether he pursues basketball overseas is another question for him. In his five-year career, Claude played at four different programs but found the most success with Western Carolina. He did get to wrap up his career playing in-state with the Tar Heels.
