Amanda Seyfried says she auditioned for 'Wicked' 6 times, shares advice for actors

Amanda Seyfried is opening up about how she auditioned for " Wicked" multiple times. On the latest episode of " In the Envelope: The Actor's Podcast," Seyfried said she auditioned for the Jon M. Chu-directed musical six times. "I auditioned like six times for Wicked because that had to be really just right," she said. "And I loved it. I was busy. I barely had time to do it, but I made it work." She added, "I worked my ass off for years and years and years on that music. I'm competitive with myself in a really healthy way, I think." Ariana Grande was eventually cast as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba for the musical-to-film adaptation. "Wicked: For Good," the sequel to the "Wicked" part one, will arrive in theaters Nov. 21, 2025. As with "Wicked," Seyfried, who starred in the 2012 film "Les Misérables," said she did six auditions before being cast in that movie as well. Of the audition process, she said, "I actually love it, because it's scary as hell, but I love getting notes and shifting my performance." "It's like a puzzle for me," she said. "I love the puzzle and I love the competition. And I love waiting for the phone call with the feedback from the casting director." She continued, "If someone's like, 'I just want to see your take on this,' I'd be like, 'Great. I'll show it to you.' I love helping people audition. I love directing actors … I think there's something really beautiful about auditioning, because if you really have this skill, then you're going to show it no matter what." Her biggest piece of advice for actors was to be themselves in an audition. "I think centering yourself and just saying what you feel as opposed to a bunch of bull---- is going to be helpful, because that insecurity that's filtered through your behavior is not attractive," she said.

Kristin Chenoweth sings national anthem at NBA Finals, earns backlash

Many viewers at home weren't quite sold on the showtune flair. KRISTIN CHENOWETH SINGS THE NATIONAL ANTHEM ???? PERFECT WAY TO TIP OFF GAME 7 ON ABC! — NBA (@NBA) June 23, 2025 Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo sing 'For Good' in first 'Wicked: For Good' trailer "This is the worst National Anthem I ever heard," one user wrote. "They got a opera singer doing the national anthem I'm done," another wrote. "Listening to the national anthem at that part," one user captioned a gif of NeNe Leakes seeming visibly taken aback. "They shoulda invited that girl who sang the national anthem in Spanish to sing there," one fan chimed in, referring to R&B singer Nezza's recent performance of "The Star-Spangled Banner" in Spanish at a Los Angeles Dodgers baseball game. Celebrities tell all about aging, marriage and Beyonce in these 10 bingeable memoirs Though everyone didn't share Chenoweth's love for musical theater, her Oklahoma City Thunder still pulled off a win to take home the city's first title, defeating the Indiana Pacers 103-91. 'Up there with fergie': Other infamous national anthems One user in their criticism called back to one infamous rendition of the national anthem, adding, "this national anthem up there with fergie." Fergie's 2018 performance at the NBA All-Star Game in Los Angeles drew much criticism at the time, leading the singer to explain to TMZ at the time, "I'm a risk taker artistically, but clearly this rendition didn't strike the intended tone. I love this country and honestly tried my best." Other recent notorious interpretations include country music singer Ingrid Andress, who performed the national anthem "drunk" at the MLB Home Run Derby in 2024, and Public Enemy rapper Flavor Flav's version at a Milwaukee Bucks game in 2023.

And, of course, there was plenty of attention paid to Wicked: For Good, the sequel to Jon M. Chu's 2024 $750M global grossing fantasy musical. This included an illuminated green balloon descending from the rafters into the auditorium and an exclusive behind-the-scenes look that was introduced by Chu. They showed off an extended trailer. It releases domestically on September 26. ‘Superman' Flies Into Barcelona With 30 Minutes Of Footage During Warner Bros' CineEurope Presentation

In his first CineEurope outing since adding international to his purview, Warner Bros President of Global Theatrical Distribution, Jeff Goldstein, introduced the studio's show today, capping it off with 30 minutes of DC's July tentpole Superman, starring David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan and Nicholas Hoult. The start of the footage was similar to what exhibition saw at CinemaCon in April (which director James Gunn also dropped online during that week), but went well further in an exclusive reveal today. It was teed up first by a local musician playing the iconic theme on stage with an electric guitar, and then in a video from DC chiefs Peter Safran and Gunn. The duo wasn't here in person as the team is embarking on a global tour today, starting in the Philippines. He also touted 2026's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow from director Craig Gillespie which releases in June next year. Earlier in the WB CineEurope show, F1: The Movie director Joseph Kosinski sent a message to say he'd been 'thrilled' to shoot the Apple Original Films racing pic at different F1 events around the globe, 'to ensure authenticity' which will give audiences 'the ride of a lifetime.' The Brad Pitt-starrer starts worldwide rollout on June 25. During the New Line portion of the WB show, there was an exclusive trailer for Zach Cregger's 'batsh*t insane' Weapons. The original IP begins worldwide rollout on August 6. Also from New Line, The Conjuring: Last Rites got a new look-in, as did Mortal Kombat II. Footage was further shown for the first teaming of filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson and star Leonardo DiCaprio, One Battle After Another. Some was what we saw in Las Vegas in April, but there was also an exclusive work-in-progress trailer debuted. And, a behind-the-scenes reel was unveiled for Emerald Fennel's take on Wuthering Heights with Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi starring. In a whimsical moment, Bill Damaschke, President Warner Bros Pictures Animation, introduced footage from next year's The Cat in the Hat, and surprised CineEurope attendees with red-and-white stovepipe chapeaux that had been hidden under every seat in the auditorium, while he urged folks to don the caps and stand for a photo.
