AGB management relieved to get championship off to winning start
Wicklow People Today at 12:30 Championship differs from League in that momentum counts for less. One good run of results in the League could make the difference. In Championship, you need to deliver a winning performance nearly every day at the start, and certainly every day at the finish. Past results count for less. There are no prizes handed out on the first weekend of the Wicklow Senior Football Championship; it has always been thus. But even in the round-robin era, an opening-week win is still valuable. Arklow Geraldines Ballymoney (AGB) secured that on Saturday night, but they also delivered a very good performance, which not all of the weekend's winners will be able to say.

Wicklow chairperson urges public to get behind their clubs at championships time
Wicklow GAA Chairperson Damien Byrne also asked supporters to be respectful of those who officiate our games Wicklow People Today at 08:30 The Leagues are almost done and dusted, and now it's on to the fare that teams have really been training towards: the Championships. The three main Gaelic Games organisations in Wicklow gathered together last Tuesday in Ballybeg House for the launch of this year's championships, all of which throw in shortly, but the Wicklow football championships will be the first to get underway. The football competitions' first rounds of action have been billed for a blockbuster weekend from Friday evening, June 11 onwards, and the excitement is already palpable.

Probe into scrapped plan for 106 Wicklow social homes reveals contracts had not been signed
Crucial development was going to help some of the more than 4,000 people on the Wicklow housing list Wicklow People Today at 01:00 Sinn Féin TD John Brady has voiced his dissatisfaction over responses received from the Department of Housing as they appeared before the Public Accounts Committee to face questions over the sudden decision to scrap a Public Private Partnership (PPP) housing programme, which included 106 social homes in Wicklow. A total of 486 homes were due to be constructed through PPP Bundle 3, at sites in Blessington, Dublin, Kildare and Sligo. However, after evaluation of the costs associated, the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage decided not to proceed with contract award on a value for money basis.

Wicklow stately home and grounds has been reimagined and now attracts visitors from all over Ireland
Avondale has been reimagined and now attracts visitors from around the world, as reporter David Medcalf discovered Wicklow People Today at 02:00 Coillte, the State forestry company, is responsible for a million acres and for hundreds of sites around Ireland, with a presence in practically every one of the 26 counties. Their open door policy means that they have at least 250 'recreational' forests. None of the other sites, however, is quite like Avondale in County Wicklow, which has become a light-hearted showcase for Irish forestry and Irish timber. Not so long ago, the place was a handy venue for anyone in the Rathdrum area with a dog that needed walking, more a hidden gem than a national attraction. The big house, once the home of Charles Stewart Parnell, was off limits to the public while the forestry college was long since closed. This still left visitors with an enticing choice of routes to ramble around the splendidly wooded property. However, it was a low key operation as the 500 acre estate was run with a skeleton staff and it was far short of being a must-see item on any tourist agenda. Then the decision was taken to put Avondale on the visitor map in a big way.
