Review: Eye-popping thrills and bursts of Canadiana take centre stage at 2025 Grandstand show
Article content The 2025 Grandstand Show is a series of jaw-dropping, eye-popping moments, making it a thrill ride for the senses. Article content One of the big differences with this show is that the Grandstand Band is no longer inside the scaffolding at the rear of the stage. Instead it is centerstage, where it should be, because these musicians really are the centerpiece of the show as they accompany all the acts. Article content Article content Article content The show opens with the Keith Sayers Freestyle Motorcross team, in an act called Thunder Struck. This is a gravity-defying act which sees the riders jump their motorcycles across the stage onto an inflated rubber mound. There are moments as they cross through the air that the riders seem to be flying above their bikes. At other times they make their bikes do somersaults and backflips. It's a case of you're seeing it, but you still don't believe what these daredevils are doing. The act understandably elicited gasps, cheers and applause. Article content Article content Angela Benson, who stages and directs these extravaganzas, knows you need something big and brassy to follow such an introduction, and she give us that with The Young Canadians performing a number called Wild Wild West. There are 123 dancers and singers in the company this year, and they flood the stage in a kaleidoscope of colour, sound and movement. The jumbotrons capture individual dancers so your eyes are darting between the intricate patterns of the team and individuals dancing and singing up a storm, and there is such incredible talent on that stage. Article content Article content There is even fireworks to accompany Wild Wild West. In the past, the fireworks were saved for the end of the show. That is no longer the case. Almost every number is punctuated with fireworks which adds to the excitement. Article content Special guest, aerialist Vladyslav Tsarov, performs one of his routines on, and arround, a straddle suspended in the top alcove of the stage. His amazing agility is astounding, but this is one time when there are too many distractions with the performers on the stage. Again, the jumbotrons help, but this is an act that needs to be highlighted and alone. The number was too busy and it minimized his skills. Luckily, he appears centre stage later on to show his amazing flexibility as he winds around a pole with fire erupting around him. Article content Illya Strakhov is given the downstage spotlight his routine deserves in Drink You Away. Strakhov balances on his head on bottles and glasses, and then on two balls he places on top of each other. He leaves you shaking your head in disbelief, and ends by balancing on his finger on a whiskey bottle. The audience's gasps of disbelief are almost deafening.

Will Smith reveals he turned down HUGE role in one of the greatest films of all time for box office flop Wild Wild West
Fans were left in shock after Will Smith revealed he turned down a role in one of the greatest science fiction movies of all time for his box office flop Wild Wild West. The American actor, 56, appeared as a guest on KISS XTRA radio on Saturday and discussed with Craig Mitch the movies he wished he had never turned down. Kicking off the interview, Craig asked the star: 'I don't know if you can confirm it that you turned down The Matrix to do Wild Wild West?' Smiling, Will replied: 'That was one of my beautiful scars!' and the pair broke out into a fit of laughter. Action-comedy Wild Wild West co-starred Kevin Kline, Kenneth Branagh and Salma Hayek and was a critical and commercial disappointment. It grossed $222.1 million worldwide against a $170 million budget. In contrast, The Matrix - starring Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss - grossed over $463 million worldwide on a $63 million budget. Yet that wasn't Will's only bad decision. Craig, who was intrigued to know more, then asked: 'Are there any other movie roles that you've, you know, turned down?' Will then shockingly revealed that British-American filmmaker Christopher Nolan brought the action/ sci-fi movie Inception to him first. Inception, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael Caine and Tom Hardy, was the fourth-highest-grossing film of 2010, making over $837 million. Will said: 'I can't it hurts too bad!' as Craig cut in, laughing: 'Oh, you don't even want to revisit it!' Will added: 'It hurts too bad. I don't think I've ever even said it publicly before... gonna say it now because we're opening up to one another. Chris Nolan brought me Inception first, and I didn't get it.' Appearing lost for words, Craig said: 'Wow! That's never been said before?' and Will confirmed: 'I've never said that out loud.' 'And now that I think about it, It's those movies that go into those alternate realities they don't pitch well. He confessed: 'But I'm hurt by those two...I'm hurt by those two.' Radio presenter Craig Mitch, who was intrigued to know more, then asked: 'Are there any other movie roles that you've, you know, turned down?' and Will confessed it was Inception Inception was the fourth-highest-grossing film of 2010, making over $837 million (Christopher Nolan, Leonardo DiCaprio and Marion Cotillard pictured in the film) Following his radio appearance, fans took to X, formerly Twitter, to share their opinions - and many were divided as some praised Will for turning down the movie while others were shocked he would do such a thing. One user shared a meme as he wrote: 'Reading about Will Smith turning down Inception because he didn't understand it and also The Matrix because he didn't understand it.'; 'When Christopher Nolan asks you to be in one of his movies you don't say no. You just say yes no questions asked because it will all make sense later.'; 'I can kinda understand turning down the Matrix because the Wachowskis were fairly unproven at the time and the concept was wild at the time. But Nolan was proven at the time. You just say "Yes."' While another defended Will's choice to turn it down, saying: 'Well Inception is one of the worst movies ever made so I'm happy for Will he skipped it. Totally drivol made for people who never had a creative thought in their life or watched any art house films to go have their "minds blown".'

Dave Ramsey Says Crypto Is Going To Continue To Get Bigger and Better — But Investors Should Still Be Cautious
Crypto ownership in the U.S. isn't limited to tech elites or financial risk-takers anymore. According to the National Cryptocurrency Association, 21% of American adults now hold some form of crypto. Check Out: Read Next: Over the years, Dave Ramsey has taken a firm stance against cryptocurrency, advising against investing in it. In a recent appearance on the Shawn Ryan Show on YouTube, he acknowledged crypto is evolving, but his message remains to approach with caution and know exactly what kind of risk is on the table. In the interview, Ramsey said he believes cryptocurrency is going to continue to get bigger and better and 'continue to stabilize.' While he admitted that the crypto market was once a 'Wild Wild West crap show,' he now sees progress in its structure and sophistication. That progress, he said, could eventually make it safer and more legitimate. Still, the biggest problem isn't the tech, it's how people are treating it. Ramsey drew a clear line between investing and speculating. According to him, crypto belongs squarely in the speculation camp. The key difference? Investing involves long-term wealth creation. Speculation is a 'short-term play.' It's risky, it's volatile, and it shouldn't form the foundation of a retirement plan. Too often, he said, people call into his show claiming they're 'investing in crypto', but what they're really doing is gambling. Ramsey compared this to building a house with no buyer lined up: It's a 'spec home,' not a long-term rental. In his eyes, bitcoin and gold operate the same way. They don't create wealth. They just change in price because someone else wants them. One needs to look no further than the crypto crash of 2022 to see the truth in Ramsey's approach to crypto: In a domino effect, the crypto market plummeted across the board and crypto investors lost millions. Those who were over-invested in crypto lost everything. Ramsey's issue isn't with crypto's existence. It's with the way many people treat it like a golden ticket. He described hearing from 26-year-olds who put their entire net worth into bitcoin with nothing saved in retirement accounts or property. That, to him, is reckless. Instead, he argued, crypto should only be used for speculation. Be Aware: For Ramsey, the value of a true investment comes from wealth creation. He offered the examples of Apple and Home Depot, which generate profits and make products. Crypto, like gold or commodities, only rises in value because of demand. It's trading, not building. Ramsey doesn't dismiss blockchain technology or crypto's potential. But he made one thing clear: Believing in the tech doesn't mean it's smart to bet everything on it. His advice: Treat crypto like money that could go up in flames, and keep the real investments where they belong — in long-term, proven vehicles that actually create wealth.
