On Tuesday, July 9, the Vikings announced the organization has committed $500,000 to support rescue and recovery efforts from the floods in Kerr County and Texas Hill Country. "We are deeply saddened by the continued devastation and loss of life in the Texas Hill Country and can't imagine the pain so many are experiencing," the Wilf family wrote in a statement. "We are praying for peace for the families who have lost a loved one and strength for those who continue to risk their lives leading the rescue and recovery efforts." ESPN's Adam Schefter amplified the message of solidarity, sharing the statement on X, which garnered over 100,000 views in the first hour of the post, which led to many across the nation to applaud the organization's generosity. "Heck of an organization. Set the standard." "Vikings have always been a class act," a second fan replied. "Major kudos. There does not appear to be any connection between the Wilf's/Vikings to Central Texas or even Texas at all," a third fan added. The Vikings have a reputation for taking initiative in supporting those in need. In January, the Vikings donated $1 million to California wildfire relief and surpassed $5 million donated just months into the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Insider: Vikings offensive assistant coach is nearing an extension
Insider: Vikings offensive assistant coach is nearing an extension The Vikings' ownership and front office have shown an affinity for continuity in recent years under the leadership of the Wilf Family. When some NFL teams have shown they cannot get out of their own way, the Vikings have emerged as one of the more stable franchises in the league. They show that by keeping their leadership in place with extensions for head coach Kevin O'Connell and general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah. From there, we can also look at promotions for various members within the front office who have helped build this talented roster. Now, eyes are turning towards the coaching staff. Ben Goessling of The Star Tribune spoke on his show Access Vikings and shared some details about a possible extension for offensive coordinator Wes Phillips. He added, 'It sounds like we may hear something in the not-too-distant future on the Wes Phillips front.' Wes Phillips is often forgotten about on the Vikings coaching staff and his coaching of the offense. Most the spotlight goes to Kevin O'Connell due to his background and playing career being a reason to give him his flowers. Last year when Sam Darnold had his breakout year, Phillips played a big role in that and it is likely why an extension is now being discussed. It is well earned and will help keep O'Connell's staff around for years to come.
