Outcomes of 5 Chelsea players signed by Mikel Arteta before Noni Madueke
Mikel Arteta is no stranger to signing Chelsea players and Arsenal are set to finalise a deal for Noni Madueke after agreeing a deal with the Blues for a transfer Noni Madueke looks set to become Arsenal's latest signing in a busy start to July in the transfer market. In the space of a week the England international could join the likes of Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard in arriving at the Emirates. The winger has been provided permission by Chelsea to depart the United States on the eve of the Club World Cup final against Paris Saint-Germain to finalise a £52million move to the Gunners. Madueke is set to sign a five-year deal as he seals a move to the Emirates. It is not the first time Mikel Arteta has added to his squad from Arsenal's London rivals. And it's not even the first time this summer after the Gunners prised Kepa Arrizabalaga away from Stamford Bridge in a £5m deal little over a week ago. And it appears whether it is Edu or Andrea Berta in charge of transfers, the club are more than happy to go back to the Chelsea well as they attempt to transform from also-rans to Premier League winners. But how successful has the tactic been so far? Mirror Football takes a look at what happened to the players signed before Madueke and Kepa, with the latter not having had time to make his mark. Willian The Brazilian winger got off to a quick start after joining Arsenal to bag two assists on his debut against Fulham. By the end of the season Willian had just one goal to his name for the club however. After little over a year at the club, Willian and Arsenal came to an agreement to end his time in north London via mutal consent. The Premier League veteran later described the period as 'the worst time that he had lived as a professional'. Jorginho Jorginho was a 'bit surprised' over his move to Arsenal in January 2023. The £12m deal caught much of the footballing world off guard as Arsenal moved on from trying to sign Moises Caicedo. "I know he tried a few times to get me before and it didn't happen due to other reasons, not because of my wishes," Jorginho said upon signing for the club. Arteta hoped the signing would add to the squad's depth and the Italian proved useful on his way to 79 appearances across two-and-a-half seasons. Jorginho earned an extension to his initial deal but saw his contract end in 2025 as he opted for a move to Brazil. Kai Havertz The German's move across London was another that raised eyebrows as Arsenal stumped up £65m for Chelsea's Champions League final goalscorer. Arteta had intentions to utilise Havertz as a midfielder before being required to push the player further forward. And whereas he'd sometimes struggled leading the Blues' frontline, the ex-Bayer Leverkusen ace proved a useful stand-in for Arteta. Havertz has scored 29 goals and provided 13 assists in 87 appearances for Arsenal thus far and a stint at the end of 2023/24 saw four Premier League goals and three assists across five games. A significant injury in a mid-season training camp stopped him in his tracks at the beginning of 2025 as he was forced to go under the knife. But the Germany international has been noted by Arteta to have undergone a physical transformation in his time away from the pitch as he returned for the final two games of the season. Raheem Sterling The winger had a forgetable spell at Arsenal, after joining the club on a season-long loan. Arteta would have hoped he could rekindle the form he saw coaching at Manchester City as the Gunners attempted to take advantage of an opportunity late in the transfer window. Sterling was unable to break into Arteta's first team plans for the most part and scored just once in his season with the club. The 30-year-old made 13 starts but often didn't make it off the bench.

Prince William says 'dial shifting' on homelessness battle as he marks milestone
Prince Willian is marking the two year anniversary of his ambitious Homewards programme - the Prince of Wales set up the charity to develop a blueprint for eradicating homelessness in all its forms Prince William has urged those working towards ending homelessness to "keep going", as he marked the two year anniversary of his ambitious Homewards programme. The Prince of Wales set up the charity to develop a blueprint for eradicating homelessness in all its forms, "making it rare, brief and unrepeated". Six locations were chosen - Newport in south Wales, Lambeth in south London, Northern Ireland, Aberdeen, Sheffield and the three neighbouring Dorset towns of Poole, Bournemouth and Christchurch - with the aim of delivering bespoke solutions to the homelessness issues in each area. Today William said the campaign was starting to 'shift the dial' and had already achieved a 'lasting impact'. Marking Homewards' second anniversary, the heir to the throne said the programme was now in "delivery mode". Outlining his optimism that it would lead to long-term change in a letter thanking Homewards' local coalitions, he added: 'There are now people who are no longer experiencing homelessness thanks to your tremendous efforts." More than 100 initiatives are in place across six locations around the UK, and some 300 homes - a mixture of empty accommodation, private rentals and new builds - are forecast to be delivered through Homewards' Innovative Housing Projects. The first residents moved into flats in Aberdeen in March after Homewards brought together a local housing association, high street retailers and others to provide and furnish the property, and the first tenants in Sheffield are moving in this week. Two years in, the project has also launched a new early intervention initiative in schools to identify young people most at risk of homelessness. The prince will hear how the Upstream scheme is working when he travels to Meadowhead Secondary School in Sheffield on Tuesday. In February, William unveiled a new partnership with high street bank Lloyds Banking Group, which has made £50 million available to organisations tackling homelessness. Nearly £3 million has also been secured for Homewards locations from partners and coalition members. In the letter, William wrote: "I am immensely proud to say that your collective effort has already allowed us to achieve lasting impact. "After a year of convening, our second year has seen Homewards shift into delivery mode." He added: "Together, we are demonstrating tangible impact. I know this is a mammoth challenge and change won't come overnight, but over the past year we've started to shift the dial and there are now people who are no longer experiencing homelessness thanks to your tremendous efforts." He described how creating long-term change was "complex and unpredictable", adding: "But I am confident we can lead and inspire understanding, empathy and optimism that homelessness can be ended." The prince ended his letter by signing it in his own handwriting: "Keep going! William". The Upstream school survey pilot is set to be rolled out to two other schools in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, later this year. The preventative approach, which seeks to tackle the root causes of homelessness and provide support to young people and their families at the earliest opportunity, is modelled on the successful Geelong Project in Australia, which saw a 40% reduction in youth homelessness and a 20% reduction in the number of young people leaving school early. Homewards has also created action plans to focus efforts on the most at-risk groups in each location, such as single people and under-25s in Aberdeen, lone parents in temporary accommodation in Lambeth and families and women facing multiple disadvantages in Newport. Liz Laurence, Homewards' programme director, said: "We're proud to say, as we head into our third year, that Homewards is the broadest collective effort working to prevent homelessness across the UK." Ms Laurence added: "We set out with a mission to demonstrate that together it's possible to end homelessness, and I think we are really confident about where we are... We are starting really to see a difference on the ground." The five-year campaign is a major long-term focus for William, who has told how visiting shelters with his late mother Diana, Princess of Wales when he was a child left a deep and lasting impression and inspired his work. Polly Neate, former chief executive of Shelter and now an independent social policy commentator, said: "In our wider culture, as a country, we see homelessness as something that is inevitable, that we don't really understand, that we feel powerless about doing anything about. "What Prince William and Homewards are doing, if you want to put it in a nutshell, is tackling that culture straight on and saying 'This is not inevitable. This is preventable'."

Fulham plotting shock move to bring Joao Palhinha back to Craven Cottage after Bayern Munich struggles
Fulham are exploring a potential return for midfielder Joao Palhinha, who has failed to make much of an impact in his first season at Bayern Munich. Fulham sold the 29-year-old to the German giants for £48million a year ago but his game time has been limited under Vincent Kompany. He wanted to fight for his place but the Bundesliga champions are willing consider offers. A number of Premier League sides are interested in an initial loan with Fulham among those, though his salary could prove prohibitive. Palhinha started just seven matches in Germany's top flight in his debut campaign, not helped by an injury which kept him on the sidelines for more than two months. He failed to contribute a goal or an assist in his 17 appearances in all competitions and now a quick return to the Premier League could be on the horizon. The Portuguese joined the Cottagers in the summer of 2022 and went on to score eight goals in 79 appearances. A deadline day move to Bayern collapsed in 2023 with the Bavarians going on to get their man a year later. Palhinha, 29, was a member of the Portugal team that triumphed in the Nations League earlier this month but played just one minute across the semi-final and final. Fulham are yet to do much work in the market this summer but a number of departures have been announced. Willian and Carlos Vinicius are among a list of 13 players who will leave the club following the expiration of their contracts at the end of the month

Former Chelsea star compares Estevao Willian to Barcelona superstar Lamine Yamal
There are great expectations for in-coming Chelsea player Estevao Willian and excitement is not going to die down now he has been compared to Barcelona superstar Lamine Yamal. 18-year-old Estevao signed for Chelsea from Brazilian side Palmeiras last year but is only due to join the Blues after the Club World Cup this summer. The winger has already made a big splash in his home country and has won five caps for the Brazil senior side already, despite only turning 18 in April. Chelsea fans will be drooling over the prospect of Estevao lighting up Stamford Bridge and former Blues star Willian has only added to the hype. The 70-cap Brazil international compared Estevao's style to that of Barcelona and Spain winger Yamal and said they have similarly great potential. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link we'll send you so we can get football news tailored to you. 'Without a doubt, he has a lot of potential, a lot of quality,' Willian told ESPN Brasil. 'The player has the advantage of still being so young, but with great potential like Lamine Yamal, they have a similar style. 'I hope that he can be very successful here in England playing for Chelsea, he can win many titles, score a lot of goals with the Chelsea jersey and he will help to win titles over the years.' Chelsea paid an initial £29million for the teenager, but that fee could eventually rise to £57million if he meets a number of performance-related clauses. Willian expects the youngster to do well in the Premier League, but has warned him that it will take some time to adjust to the different conditions and style of play. 'My advice is that he dedicate himself to the fullest. In England, football is quite different to what he is used to,' said the 36-year-old. 'When he gets here I think he needs some extra work at the club. 'I'm sure he has a very good head. There's no need to argue about his quality, he has more than enough quality to play for a big club like Chelsea. But I hope he can adapt as quickly as possible and get into the style of play here to be very successful.' Willian would know about adjusting to English football, having made 339 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions, winning two Premier League titles, the FA Cup and Europa League with the Blues. Blues fans will have the chance to see Estevao in action this summer as he is with Palmeiras at the Club World Cup in America. Palmeiras have been placed in Group A of the competition alongside Al Ahly, Inter Miami and Porto. Chelsea meanwhile find themselves in Group D alongside ES Tunis, Los Angeles FC and Flamengo. The Brazilian team got their campaign underway on Sunday with a goalless draw with Porto, a match which Estevao started. There is a possibility Chelsea and Palmeiras can meet at the quarter-final stage of the Club World Cup. More Trending Should both progress as group winners or runners-up and beat their last 16 opponents, they are possible opponents for each other at the last eight stage. Those matches in question will take place on Friday 4 July in Philadelphia and Saturday 5 July in Atlanta. With Estevao registered for the Palmeiras squad, there would be nothing to stop him from lining up against the players he will be playing alongside side as early as next month. Estevao's agent Andre Cury said in April: 'Yes, he's arriving [at Chelsea] after the Club World Cup. He's a world-class player. Very good. A guy who's going to make history here.'
