Cork man jailed for firing shot into house before knocking man down while escaping on motorbike
A young man who had a 'horrific' childhood was humiliated by a headbutting from another Cork man who circulated a video of the assault online and he reacted by firing a shot into the other man's house and then knocking down a 67-year-old man as he sped away. Jamie Russell was jailed for seven years with the last two years suspended by Judge Dermot Sheehan at Cork Circuit Criminal Court. Mr Russell was driving a high-powered motorbike which he had stolen nine days previously when he caused life-changing injuries to a 67-year-old man when he collided with him at the pedestrian crossing, a short distance from the scene of the shooting. Detective Garda Gary Purtill outlined the background to the incidents which happened before 5.40pm on August 23, 2024. CCTV from the house at Laurel Ridge captured a man arriving outside the house wearing a motorcycle helmet. 'He can be seen with what is called a slam-bang improvised shotgun which he discharged from the driveway into the front door. Windows and door were smashed with the improvised firearm. 'Two culprits left the scene on a motorbike and sped off on a motorbike. They knocked down a pedestrian who suffered life-changing injuries. He was hospitalised for a number of months. 'The accused was driving when he knocked down the gentleman at a pedestrian crossing coming up to 6pm in the evening. He was blown some 30 metres down the road and suffered very serious injuries. 'The 67-year-old victim sustained multiple fractures to his back, ribs, pelvis and legs as a result of which he spent several months in hospital,' Detective Garda Gary Purtill said. He added that the victim felt unable physically and psychologically to make a victim impact statement. Judge Dermot Sheehan said: 'It was not simply a burst of rage, it was planned. He had to obtain the improvised shotgun and the motorcycle before carrying it out.' The first firearms charge states that at Laurel Ridge, Shanakiel, Cork, on August 23 he had a firearm, namely a 12-gauge improvised shotgun for an unlawful purpose. The second charge relates to the same time and place and refers to the possession of ammunition – a 12-gauge Winchester brand cartridge. Jamie Russell of Harbour View Road in Knocknaheeny, Cork city, signed guilty pleas to charges of possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition and dangerous driving causing injury. Humiliated Jane Hyland, defence senior counsel, called evidence of the defendant's 'horrific childhood'. She said the young man was humiliated after a recording of himself being headbutted was circulated online. And his embarrassment caused him to make the bad decision to discharge the firearm into the house. 'To the man he knocked down he asks for forgiveness and says that if he could turn back the clock he would,' Ms Hyland said.

Liam Delap ready to bring even MORE aggression to Chelsea frontline after wild Nicolas Jackson red card
LIAM DELAP chose Rocky's hometown as the place to declare himself ready to rumble at Chelsea. Their new £30million striker is a world away from the famous 'Italian Stallion' given he was born in Winchester. 3 3 And he's sitting down on a comfy chair in the luxurious Jean-Groges restaurant on the 60th floor of downtown Philly's sumptuous Four Seasons hotel, looking immaculate in a box-fresh club tracksuit. But Delap is proud of the fact he loves a scrap on the pitch, within reason of course. No player was booked more times than him last season with Ipswich Town. A dozen yellow cards as he walked the line for a team fighting for survival in the Premier League relegation zone. As many cautions as goals. He is bringing that to his new club and has already shown glimpses of the aggression which is in his DNA. Refusing to cower to defenders, claiming a classy assist on his debut, throwing a football at the bowed head of Flamengo midfielder Jorginho, formerly of Chelsea, then apologising seconds later. It's not boxing. It's not beanie-hatted Sly Stallone throwing right hooks into hanging slabs of cow in the meatpacking district, but it is the kind of centre forward fans love. And Delap is ready to deliver. He said: 'Yeah, I love those battles. I always have since I was a kid. I really love the aggressive side of it and the competitive nature of the squad. It's got to be controlled at times but it's my game ultimately and I enjoy it. JOIN SUN VEGAS: GET £50 BONUS 'I've always had that same edge as a kid and I'm not going to change the way my mindset is. You've just got to make sure you're on the right side of the edge. 'I played every sport in school. Anything that could get me out of a lesson. I just enjoyed the competitive nature of it, whether it was rugby or rounders. BBC pundit names England's long-term successor to Harry Kane after Premier League star's 'bullying' performance 3 'Last season was my first playing in the Premier League, playing with VAR, so it's something that I'm going to have to get used to and work my way around to try and get less yellow cards. 'But it's not something I'm worried about. I think I can control my emotions when I need to. Maybe I'm a little bit old school but it is the way I play and I don't want to change it.' Juggling the actions of leading the line and getting into trouble is a difficult balancing act. Delap has been signed to put pressure on current Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson - currently suspended in both the Club World Cup and Premier League for getting a little too physical. You could argue that they are two of a kind. Delap played a large part of last season with broken ribs to valiantly battle away for Ipswich when they were on the ropes. Centre forwards win people over by getting stuck in. Jackson was sent off four minutes after coming on in Friday's disastrous 3-1 defeat by Flamengo for putting his studs into an opposing defender's shin. Delap said: 'Everyone playing football plays close to the edge a little bit. You have to be aggressive, on the front foot all the time. 'I was right in front of it when it happened. It was so unlucky. He has obviously not meant to do it. These things happen in football and I am sure he will get over it. 'With the size of the club there's always going to be competition and I think players thrive off that competition. You're going to work that little bit harder and try to compete. 'It's Chelsea, it's going to be tough and it's going to be competitive. And that's what you relish.' Delap, 22, harbours ambitions to win big with his new club. He fits the club model of promising young player with plenty of potential. He has signed a six-year contract and opted for the Club World Cup rather than Euro 2025 with England Under-21s as he looks to bed in. There's history with Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca from their days together at Manchester City. And a reunion with former City academy players Cole Palmer and Romeo Lavia. Delap said: 'I've got a good relationship with the manager. I know how he plays. I've played in his system before. 'I know a lot of the players here and the project of the club, how they see the future. That's what excited me. 'We've got a good core of English boys here. I've spent a lot of time with them. I obviously know a few people here already so I've been spending time with them. 'I've known Cole since I was 15, playing at City with him. I've got a good relationship with him so it was nice to see a familiar face. 'I had my sights set on the Euros all season and I was really looking forward to that. But I signed here and they wanted me to be here. I want to be here as well. I need to get to know everyone so that's why I'm here.' Ipswich turned to famous superfan Ed Sheeran to persuade Delap to sign for them last summer and leave behind Manchester City. Delap said: 'Yeah I had a little FaceTime with him. 'I think he was heavily involved with Ipswich so it was nice to speak to him. 'It was just a token that Ed was really involved in Ipswich and a lot of people were close to him.' Chelsea had the simple magnetism of Champions League football - which means a bigger spotlight on him now. Delap said: 'I am just here to play football. I don't look at everything from the outside. I am at a big club now but my mind is strong enough to not let it affect me. 'It is hard to ignore at times but it is just how you take it and you can brush it aside and stay confident. 'I'm really excited. One of the reasons I started playing football was to play in the Champions League.'

Who Is Hank Winchester? Emmy-Winning Reporter's Home Raided as Cops Probe Allegations He Sexually Abused Man During Massage
An Emmy-winning investigative TV reporter from Detroit — who co-hosts a podcast with the wife of a Los Angeles Rams player — is now being investigated himself, as his home was recently searched by authorities, who were investigating allegations that he made unwanted sexual advances toward a man during a massage. Hank Winchester, an investigative journalist for WDIV Local 4 — an NBC affiliate — and host of HelpMeHank, is married to Oakland County Circuit Judge Jacob Cunningham, according to his Instagram profile. The couple also has a young daughter. Beverly Hills Police Department along with the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, searched his Winchester home while executing a search warrant, according to Fox 2. Shocking Allegations The search was conducted as part of an investigation into claims that Winchester made unwanted sexual advances toward a man during a massage. According to sources who spoke with Fox 2, Winchester had recently been studying massage therapy. It remains unclear whether he was receiving the massage or acting as the masseur during the alleged incident. Winchester is also a co-host of The Morning After podcast alongside Kelly Stafford, the wife of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford. The podcast sometimes includes well-known guests from major media outlets such as Access Hollywood and ESPN. Prior to joining the Los Angeles Rams, Matthew Stafford was the quarterback for the Detroit Lions from 2009 to 2020. Winchester shared that he had maintained a long-standing friendship with the Stafford family, as noted in a farewell message he wrote when they relocated to Los Angeles in 2021. After the "external investigation," was launched WDIV Vice President Bob Ellis confirmed that Winchester has been put on administrative leave. In a Scandalous Situation Winchester's attorney, Todd Flood, expressed confidence that the investigation will not result in any serious findings. "Hank has spent decades bringing truth to our community and fighting for our citizens. Because he holds a high-profile position in our community, that can at times generate false accusations. This investigation will end where it began – nowhere," he wrote. No charges have been filed at this time, and the investigation remains active. Winchester is not the only media personality to face such accusations in recent months. Back in April, a former Virginia weatherman was arrested after allegedly creating a sex tape and trying to blackmail his victims with it. In a separate incident last year, a TV news anchor from Louisiana stepped down after he was caught sending explicit messages to someone he believed was a 15-year-old girl — who was actually part of a vigilante group known as the "predator hunters."
