Billionaire's death after swallowing bee raises questions about rare cardiac reaction
On June 12, a prominent billionaire from India, Sunjay Kapur, died suddenly at the age of 53 in Windsor, England, according to multiple reports. Kapur was the chairman of Sona Comstar, an Indian automotive components manufacturer. His close friend, business consultant Suhel Seth, confirmed Kapur's death in a post on X that same day. Man's Blood Used To Create Antivenom For 19 Deadly Snakes "Deeply saddened at the passing of @sunjaykapur: he passed away earlier today in England: a terrible loss and deepest condolences to his family and to his colleagues @sonacomstar …Om Shanti," Seth wrote. In the following days, it was revealed that Kapur died while playing polo. Multiple outlets reported that he collapsed after swallowing a bee mid-match, potentially triggering a fatal heart attack. Read On The Fox News App No official source for the billionaire confirmed that a bee caused the heart attack. Fox News Digital reached out to Sona Comstar for comment. "It's not possible to comment with any specificity about this particular case without a thorough review of the forensics," Dr. Nishant Kalra, an Ohio cardiologist and regional chief medical officer at VitalSolution — an Ingenovis Health company that offers cardiovascular and anesthesiology services to hospitals — told Fox News Digital. Poison Fruit In 'White Lotus' Comes From 'Suicide Tree' Swallowing a bee can, in very rare cases, precipitate a heart attack, he confirmed — "but only through specific mechanisms." The primary risk is not from the act of swallowing itself, but from the possibility of a bee sting to either the upper airway or the oropharynx (the part of the mouth that includes the back of the tongue, tonsils and soft palate), which can introduce venom into the body, according to Kalra. If the individual is allergic, this can trigger anaphylaxis, which may cause "profound hypotension, arrhythmias or even acute coronary syndromes," Kalra said — a phenomenon known as Kounis syndrome. This syndrome can result from a coronary event (any adverse medical event related to the coronary arteries, which supply blood to the heart) occurring in combination with anaphylactic or allergic reactions. This can pose a risk even to individuals who do not have pre-existing coronary artery disease. The American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology notes that cardiac anaphylaxis can cause reduced blood flow to the heart (myocardial ischemia) and irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias) when triggered by an allergy to insect venom. "The general population should not be concerned about this as a common risk," Kapur told Fox News Digital. "Fatal cardiac events following bee stings are rare and typically occur in individuals with known venom hypersensitivity or underlying cardiac disease." NORMAN — Bill Bedenbaugh earned a major recruiting victory on Saturday afternoon. OU landed its 10th commitment in June when four-star offensive lineman Deacon Schmitt chose the Sooners over Alabama and Colorado in a ceremony at Windsor High School in Colorado. Advertisement "Thank you to everyone who believed in me," Schmitt told the crowd. "I was a kid with a dream walking in and I feel like I've done my part. ... It's been a great journey and I'm super blessed but with all of that being said, I'm here to announce my commitment to the University of Oklahoma." Schmitt is ranked as the 371st player in the 2026 class and the No. 1 prospect in Colorado, according to 247Sports' Composite Rankings. Schmitt visited Norman earlier this month as part of one of OU's major recruiting weekends. Before committing to the Sooners, Schmitt canceled official visits to Nebraska, Tennessee and USC, according to On3. Schmitt is Bedenbaugh's highest-rated offensive line commit of the 2026 class. Schmitt is the second offensive lineman to commit in the 2026 class, joining four-star Noah Best. Best committed on June 9. Windsor 4-star recruit Deacon Schmitt commits to Oklahoma football
Windsor's Deacon Schmitt poses for a picture during The Coloradoan's football Media Day on Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2024 at PSD Stadium in Timnath, Colo. A Northern Colorado star says he's heading to one of college football's most storied programs. Windsor 4-star recruit Deacon Schmitt announced his commitment to Oklahoma football on June 28 for the Class of 2026. Advertisement Schmitt donned the crimson OU hat to cheers from friends and family in the Windsor High School auditorium. It's a big get for the Sooners, who beat out 20 other Power 4 programs like Alabama, Colorado, Tennessee, USC, Georgia and more for the offensive lineman. The Buffaloes and Crimson Tide were his other two finalists. Schmitt primarily played right tackle as a high school junior, earning first-team all-state honors and helping Windsor rush for nearly 3,000 yards at 7 yards per carry. Already 6-foot-5 and 320 pounds with elite athleticism and nimble footwork, the rising senior could play guard or tackle at the next level. Advertisement Schmitt joins a wave of Sooner commits over the last week, including highly-touted 4-star quarterback Bowe Bentley. He's just the second O-line commit for Oklahoma in this class and now the highest-rated. The Sooners are one of college football's premier teams, winning seven national titles and producing seven Heisman Trophy winners. Oklahoma (now in the SEC) is entering its fourth year under head coach Brent Venables after a 6-7 season in 2024. Schmitt's commitment should bolster a 2026 OU recruiting class that had ranged from 22nd to 43rd in national rankings. Rivals and 247Sports has Schmitt as the No. 2 Class of 2026 recruit in Colorado, while On3 and ESPN has him rated No. 1. He's a consensus top-40 national offensive tackle recruit. Advertisement Schmitt is the latest in a recent run of Northern Colorado offensive linemen heading to power-conference programs, following Fossil Ridge's Gage Ginther (Tennessee) and Trey Zuhn (Texas A&M), Rocky Mountain's Ethan Thomason (BYU) and fellow 2026 Fort Collins recruit Mason Bandhauer (Iowa State). Windsor pitching plans to roster high level baseball squad
Windsor is in the running to play host to a team in the Intercounty Baseball League. The independent league is looking at expanding to 10 teams, and the Rose City is a contender, according to Ted Kalnins, the league commissioner. 'It's a good time for the game of baseball in Ontario, and Windsor has certainly a couple parties who expressed some interest,' Kalnins told CTV News. The IBL already has teams in Toronto, Barrie, and London, with players from around the world. Kalnins said the league's recent success and interest from varying markets leaves them 'ripe' for expansion. 'In terms of the demographics, the population size, I mean, it really is a great place for us to be and extend our reach,' he said. 'So, with Windsor and its size, its interest in sports, long history of just great baseball, we think is a good market to be in.' The league could benefit from having two five-team divisions to create 'geographic efficiencies' and greater rivalries, Kalnins said. Fans in Windsor don't have to look far to see the IBL's most recent expansion, with the Chatham-Kent Barnstormers proving to be a success story in southwestern Ontario. However, one barrier to an increased baseball presence in Windsor is the need for an appropriate stadium. Attendance that exceeds seating capacity has pushed the Barnstormers to add more seats at their stadium. Mic Mac Park Windsor's Mic Mac Park on June 28, 2025. (Robert Lothian/CTV News Windsor) Both Windsor's Mic Mac Park and Lacasse Baseball Park in Tecumseh would require added seating. Existing agreements with the region's many existing baseball leagues could also create scheduling difficulties. 'We have had a team in Windsor many moons ago at Mic Mac Park in Windsor, but it has since removed some seating, so there would need to be added seating for sure,' Kalnins said. 'What Windsor and Tecumseh have going for themselves is two very suitable fields that do need a little bit of upgrades.' Facilities are needed to accommodate changerooms for umpires and players, as well as concession stands for spectators. Kalnins said they will want prospective teams to present their business plan and vision to the IBL's executive team. While there's hope a team could be fielded by 2026, depending on the changes needed to facilitate the game, it could take until 2027 to see any plans come to fruition.
