After '8 Vasantalu', I finally feel like an actor, says Ananthika Sanilkumar

'8 Vasantalu', a journey through seasons 8 Vasantalu follows the journey of a girl through love, pain, strength, and rebirth, just like the seasons. Nature is a silent witness, with scenes set in misty Ooty, soulful Varanasi, and the breathtaking Kashmir valley. 'I had never been to Ooty before. But Kashmir was my favourite,' she smiles. 'It was calm, peaceful and beautiful. The people were so lovely.' Ananthika plays Shuddhi, a complex character with depth. 'Every character had layers,' she says. 'Usually, I feel like the hero has more to perform. But here, everything was balanced – romance, fights, friendships, and even women's empowerment.' The film also included an intense fight sequence shot in Varanasi, using the Wing Chun technique. 'We trained for three months, and it took a week to shoot. I used to sleep by 10-11, but the action was shot at night. I got used to it,' she laughs. 'I didn't use ropes; it was a basic-level stunt. I enjoy injuries. It makes me feel like I've done something.' In a scene where Shuddhi is denied the right to light her master's funeral pyre because she is a woman, Ananthika says, 'I was so happy reading that dialogue. The entire cast read the script together. I cried while reading it.' One monologue stands out for her, where Shuddhi's mother tells her she is a queen. It reminded her of her mother, who supported her through everything. 'We weren't financially sound. But for all my classical performances, my parents spent a lot without telling me. Till 10th, it was all them. Now that I'm working, I have some peace that I don't have to disturb them anymore.'

Harvard Recommends These 3 Activities Over Walking Or Running For Adults Over 60

Harvard Medical School has identified a surprising activity as one of the best ways for older adults to stay fit and healthy: martial arts. While walking and jogging are commonly suggested, Harvard experts say that certain martial arts, especially Tai Chi, offer greater benefits for people over the age of 60. These martial arts are not about fighting or high-speed action. Instead, they focus on slow, mindful movements that improve balance, strength, and mental clarity. According to Harvard research, practices like Tai Chi, Aikido, and Wing Chun are especially suitable for seniors. These activities are gentle on the joints and can reduce the risk of falls, enhance flexibility, and improve overall well-being. Dr Peter M Wayne of Harvard Medical School has studied the effects of Tai Chi on ageing. His research shows that it helps the body stay responsive and coordinated, even in later years. Tai Chi also boosts memory and concentration through its complex yet calming routines. Unlike high-impact exercises, martial arts involve controlled motion and deep breathing, which also help reduce stress and improve sleep. In addition to physical benefits, group classes can help older adults stay socially connected, an important factor in maintaining emotional health. While Tai Chi is often the most recommended due to its slow and flowing style, other forms such as Aikido and Wing Chun can also be adapted for seniors. These styles focus on smooth movements and self-awareness rather than force or speed. Experts suggest speaking with a doctor before beginning any new exercise. It is also helpful to find an instructor experienced in teaching seniors to ensure safety and confidence during practice.

Chinese brain experiment during dance performance sparks goosebumps and aversion

Audience members at a university dance recital have sparked a viral – and visceral – reaction after a social media post with 10 million views showed them taking part in a brain-reading experiment while watching the performance. Advertisement But the scientists monitoring brain response during the show have come out to explain the nature of the experiment and the purpose of the volunteers' electrode-covered 'hats' worn in the theatre that social media commenters said were unsettling and had triggered 'goosebumps' and phobias. Brain-computer interface technology (BCI), such as that used by audience members at Tsinghua University this month, enables direct communication between the brain and external devices. Photo: Handout On June 7, a dance drama performance called 'Wing Chun' was held in a theatre at Tsinghua University. During the performance, eight students who sat together in one row wore futuristic 'hats' covered with threads and white dots. A student dancer from another university in Beijing was so spooked by the apparent cyberpunk scene that she posted photos from the show on the Chinese social media platform RedNote. She asked: 'What kind of mysterious hi-tech organisation is this? I, a dance student, really want to know!' ‘8 Vasanthalu' is a pure love story that will emotionally connect with everyone: Ananthika Sunilkumar

'8 Vasanthalu' is a concept-centric movie directed by Phanindra Narsetti and produced by Pan-India production house Mythri Movie Makers. Ananthika Sunilkumar plays the lead role. Produced by Naveen Yerneni and Y. Ravi Shankar, '8 Vasanthalu' promises to deliver a soulful cinematic experience. The promotional content released so far has received a positive response. The movie is set to release worldwide on June 20. On this occasion, heroine Ananthika Sunilkumar shared key highlights of the film in a press conference. Looking at the promotional material, does it seem like this story revolves around you? This is a story about women. Although the girl's role is crucial, all other characters are equally important. Every character has depth and layers. Why did you choose this film after 'Mad'? I waited for a good story, and this one had everything I was looking for. I wanted action, emotion, and a beautiful love story — all of which were part of this film. The character offers great scope for performance. I connected deeply with the story when I read it. I literally cried. It's such an emotional narrative. I play the role of Shuddhi Ayogya — a writer with a martial arts background. What is special about this love story? This is a very pure love story. It gives the feeling of watching real life. It's relatable to people of all age groups. How did you prepare for the role? I already have a black belt, but for this film, I learned Kalari fighting and Wing Chun, a Chinese martial art. I trained with Anji Master for three months. What about your co-actors? Hanu Reddy is a very good actor — he picks up things very quickly. Ravi is also very talented and can deliver long dialogues with ease. About director Phanindra Narsetti? Phanindra is like a teacher to me. I've learned so much from him. He has a clear vision and is a passionate filmmaker. Working with him has been a great experience. Shuddhi Ayogya is a very emotional character. How did you feel after the shoot? When I looked in the mirror after returning home, I felt a strange emptiness. The character left a strong emotional impact on me. It's a very memorable role. Working with Mythri Movie Makers? It was a wonderful experience. I thank the producers for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. They were very supportive throughout. It takes courage to back a story like this. About the music? Hesham has composed two beautiful songs, and both have been well-received by the audience. The background score is also outstanding. If you weren't an actor, what would you be? I would become a politician. That's why I'm studying law. But not now — maybe when I turn 40 (laughs). Any dream roles? I love powerful and strong roles — roles that challenge me as a performer.
