Who Are The Potential Witnesses In Drake's Lawsuit Against UMG?
Drake's witness list in his active lawsuit against Universal Music Group (UMG) could be as stacked as his three-day performance at Wireless Festival 2025. Court documents have revealed every entity the Canadian rapper could potentially call to the stand in relation to his accusations that the music corporation purposely defamed him in its alleged promotion of Kendrick Lamar's 'Not Like Us.' In the amended 'initial disclosure' document viewed by VIBE, more than 60 people or companies are listed by Drake and his legal team as those who may have testimony that support his claims. As noted in the filing, 'disclosures do not include persons whose testimony is likely to be used solely for impeachment, rebuttal, or expert witness testimony.' The full list named executives from Interscope, Jesse Collins of Roc Nation, Avery Lipman, PresidentRepublic Records, as well as the companies Amazon Music, the NFL, Apple Inc., Instagram, and various media outlets. Drake himself is also named as a potential witness in the landmark litigation. Also listed is Kojo Menne Asamoah, who is described as having knowledge of the Defendant's use of covert tactics to promote the defamatory material. An additional document filed included a motion to subpoena Asamoah as a 'relevant witness.' 'Based on the information available to Plaintiff today, Plaintiff believes that Mr. Asamoah possesses knowledge relating to UMG's use of covert tactics to promote the Defamatory Material, including because Plaintiff believes that Mr. Asamoah was involved in directing payments and/or financial incentives from UMG to third parties involved in online botting for the purpose of artificially inflating the streaming numbers of the Recording,' detailed the filing. 'Plaintiff believes that Mr. Asamoah engaged in this behavior through and/or in connection with his relationship with Ramon Alvarez-Smikle, the Executive Vice President and Head of Digital Marketing of UMG's Interscope Records. Mr. Alvarez-Smikle is listed as a witness on both Plaintiff's and UMG's initial disclosures.' In its initial disclosures, UMG has a shorter list of potential witnesses, with Kendrick Lamar named as 'likely to have discoverable information concerning the creation of the Recording, Image and Video, and the distribution and promotion of the Recording and Video.' Although named in the court documents, no person or company listed is guaranteed to be called to the witness stand if the case makes it to trial. 'UMG is desperate to see this case not move forward because the company can't hide its misconduct in a courtroom the way it does in the boardroom,' shared a statement from representatives for the Certified Lover Boy earlier this month. 'Soon, in addition to facing concerned regulators and investors, the leadership of music's most powerful label will have to answer for the damage it has caused to every artist that has been silenced, exploited, endangered or discarded.' Although many enjoyed two days of performances and noteworthy guests joining Drake during his sets, Sunday's performance left some scratching their heads. Here's how social media reacted to the final day at Wireless 2025, alongside what Drake performed - and who he performed with - during this year's festival. Wireless 2025 wrapped over the weekend in London, with Drake headlining all three days and introducing a 'who's who' of special guests throughout most of his performances. The Canadian rapper on Friday brought out the illustrious Lauryn Hill to perform three songs with him, including a cover of The Fugees 'Ready or Not,'with Bryson Tiller and Mario also joining the artist on stage during the first night. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Drake performed across all three nights at Wireless 2025, however one headline performance left some fans disappointed with the shortness of the slot. | Getty Images/Canva/Reddit But it would be Drake's third set that would elicit disappointment from some fans who only bought tickets to the final night of the festival. The artist, according to reports, only played for 40 minutes with only Reema and Vybz Kartel joining him during the set. The BBC reported that the rapper 'looked agitated' compared to his demeanour the previous nights, with some speculation regarding the ardent curfew the festival had to meet on Sunday evening. Originally, Drake was meant to perform two separate sets on Sunday, according to the official Wireless 2025 timetable, however the planned first set was removed from the timetable in the afternoon ahead of his set. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad That's led some fans to express their disappointment on social media, with many upset about the brevity of his Sunday performance. What has social media reaction been to Wireless 2025? Ahead of the festival, there were concerns over a lack of communication regarding this year's event - mainly the 'last-minute' scheduling of acts and the timetables for each day being released the morning of the performances. But it would be Drake's performance on Sunday that would cause the most commotion with fans, with one in particular addressing the situation on r/WirelessFestival , stating they had come all the way from Australia to see him perform that evening. 'A big reason why I came this far was to see Drake,' they wrote, 'yet [he] comes out and does a 40 minute DJ set and isn't even the one performing half the time. How can the headliner have the shortest set of the day?' Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Another on the subreddit made comparisons between Wireless 2025 and another music festival, telling readers that: 'going from Glastonbury to Wireless within 2 weeks was a huge mistake; this was the worst festival I've ever been to' There was confusion also when the first Drake set was removed from the timetable on Sunday afternoon, with a Redditor writing: 'Drake is meant to perform at 6:25pm but cut him off and now he's playing at 8:45pm and curfew is at 9:30pm, not worth the wait we started going home' while someone commented under that post 'Vibes are kinda off too, lots of pushing and shoving, queue jumping, not like yesterday [Saturday] and Friday.' The general consensus so far though is that while Friday and Saturday were incredible days at Finsbury Park, the conclusion of the festival felt more a whimper than a bang. Drake fans baffled by most 'unexpected' moment during epic Wireless Festival set
The first night of Wireless Festival 2025 started out with a bang as headliner Drake wowed fans and brought out a number of guest artists on stage, plus other surprises Wireless Festival fans were "packed in like Sardines" according to fans on the first night of the Finsbury Park festival yesterday as the sun was shining and headliner Drake performed his first show of three this weekend. Fans have been waiting in anticipating to see the Hotline Bling singer back in the UK - and he certainly went all out on Friday with special guests and a few surprises. The 38-year-old rapper and singer, who has five Grammy Awards, surprised fans as he brought out Lauryn Hill on stop. Her performance of 'Ex-Factor' transitioned into Drake rapping his 2018 hit single 'Nice For What'. Videos shared online show the incredible scenes and one fan said on X that it was "one of the most incredible things I've ever seen". But that's not all; Drake, who flew via his private jet 'Air Drake' to the UK earlier this week, also welcomed five other artists onto the stage - Mario, Bobby Valentino, Bryson Tiller, and Giveon to churn out their crowd-pleasing singles. Plus, the One Dance artist added an unlikely song to his show - a Whitney Houston track - and he flew in the air. Fans were gobsmacked at the unexpected moment after seeing him on a cylindrical platform, holding his microphone out to the crowd as the legendary song blared out. While sharing videos on TikTok of the moment, fans shared their thoughts. One individual said: "The last thing I performing I will always love you by Whitney Houston Wireless 2025." Another shared a clip, and said: "Drake flying through Finsbury Park singing Whitney Houston was not on my 2025 Bingo card." One other commented: "Only drake would fly on a crane around the whole wireless crowd, singing Whitney Houston." "Drake really said 'I'm seeing everybody'," another observed as he flew across the crowd. One other shocked fan, who admitted they were left feeling emotional, said: "Not Drake flying through the air to Whitney Houston after bringing out 10 back to back special guests. We go again tomorrow." "He's so unserious," commented another. "This man is having too much fun," said another. One other says he was acting like a "fairy". Drake previously made surprise appearances at Wireless. He made a guest appearance at Wireless Festival in 2021, where he joined Future on stage. He also made a surprise appearance at Wireless Festival in 2018. Who else is performing at Wireless Festival 2025? Some 20 new names have now been added to the official line up. Saturday will see the likes of BigXThaPlug, Lancey Foux, Nemzzz, Fimiguerrero, Sahbabii, Len, Chy Cartier, YT and Kenny Allstar perform. Sunday attendees will be able to see Vybz Kartel, Popcaan, Spice, Masicka, Uncle Waffles, Darkoo, Odumodublvck, Skeete and Izzy Bossy. Drake will headline all three days.
