German Spending Ramp-Up Fuels Business Optimism, S&P Global Says
German companies are the most optimistic about the economy since early 2022 and for the first time in two years plan to boost investments, according to a report by S&P Global Market Intelligence. Firms highlighted that the upcoming ramp-up in public spending, alongside technological advancements, are expected to support a broader economic upturn over the next 12 months, S&P said in its June German Business Outlook.

German Consumers Grow More Cautious as Confidence Slips
German consumer sentiment edged lower for the first time in four months as households opted to boost savings, despite greater optimism surrounding their income prospects. The consumer-climate index published by research groups GfK and the Nuremberg Institute for Market Decisions fell to minus 20.3 in its forecast for July, 0.3 points weaker than in June. Economists polled by The Wall Street Journal expected the gauge to be a stronger minus 19.0.

German Financial Confidence Rises Again
German confidence in the economy jumped again this month, helped by improving consumer demand and the expected boost from the new government's spending plans. The ZEW Indicator of Economic Sentiment, which this month tracked the expectations of 200 analysts at banks, insurance companies and other businesses, rose 22.3 points on month to 47.5 in June. Economists polled by The Wall Street Journal expected a weaker score of 35.0.

Germany's Industrial Production and Exports Declined in April
German industrial production and exports sank in April, dashing hopes of a cyclical recovery of the country's critical sector amid looming US trade tariff threats. Output fell 1.4% from the previous month and shipments of goods abroad declined 1.7%, the statistics office said on Friday. Both downturns were more severe than predicted by economists in Bloomberg surveys.

German Industrial Production Falls as Tariffs Pull Exports Lower
German industrial production declined in the first month of President Trump's global tariff blitz, with exports to the U.S. from Europe's largest economy also falling sharply.
