Darshan opens up about his next film with Darshana Rajendran, directed by 'Seththumaan' Fame Thamizh; Says he cried during the climax

Picture Credit: X Tamil actor Darshan is all set for a powerful cinematic outing with his upcoming project helmed by director Thamizh. The actor recently shared exciting details about his upcoming project, an untitled movie with actress Darshana Rajendran . In a recent interview with OTTplay, Darshan spoke about the film's intensity and the unique experience of working on it. Darshan said the film is based on the novel 'Pookuzhi' by Perumal Murugan , who also wrote the dialogues. The cinematography is done by Deepak, who directed Witness. The film is already complete, and they plan to release it after 'House Mates', likely by the end of this year. Challenging yet rewarding experience The actor revealed that the film is a hard-hitting emotional drama with a distinct visual and narrative style. "When I heard the story, I was totally taken aback. There are only minimum shots, but each of them is very long. We shot in sync-sound, and since there are many single shots, even a small mistake meant we had to start over". He added that the movie is very emotional and serious. It was a new experience for him and he learned a lot. He also said the story moved him so much that he cried during the climax and on the last day of the shoot. Story of love, caste, and resistance 'Pookuzhi' is a socially charged love story that delves into caste oppression and societal hatred. It revolves around a couple who face severe backlash for their inter-caste marriage, laying bare the deep-seated prejudices that continue to affect relationships in India. Darshan is known for his roles in films like 'Thunivu' and 'Kanaa'.

Ramaphosa suspends South Gauteng prosecutions head Andrew Chauke

President Cyril Ramaphosa has suspended South Gauteng Director of Public Prosecutions Advocate Andrew Chauke with immediate effect pending an inquiry into Chauke's fitness to hold office. The Witness reports that this suspension comes in terms of section 14(3) read with 12(6)(a) of the National Prosecuting Authority Act 32 of 1998. A statement by The Presidency yesterday said that after having asked Chauke to provide reasons why he should not be suspended, Ramaphosa decided that suspension is the correct course of action pending an inquiry. 'President Ramaphosa has informed Adv Chauke of his decision in writing and indicated that the President and the public would benefit from an independent assessment of issues that require elucidation and on which there are disputes of fact,' reads the statement. The statement added that Ramaphosa believes that Chauke's continued tenure as director of Public Prosecutions – while facing serious accusations – would negatively affect the reputation of the National Prosecuting Authority as a whole. 2 women dead after Kentucky church shooting; suspect killed by police

LOUISVILLE, KY − Two people were killed and three others were injured, including a state trooper, in a series of shootings in Kentucky on July 13, authorities said. The incident occurred at about 11:36 a.m. ET in Lexington, Kentucky, when local police responded to a report of a shooting involving a Kentucky State Police trooper on Terminal Drive. The road runs past Blue Grass Airport in Fayette County. The state trooper had pulled over a vehicle on the road after receiving a license plate reader alert in the area, Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers said at a news conference. The suspect shot the trooper, fled the scene, and later carjacked a vehicle. The state trooper was in stable condition and was receiving medical treatment, according to Weathers. No injuries were reported in the carjacking incident. Officers were able to track the vehicle to the Richmond Road Baptist Church, where the suspect opened fire at people on the church property. Four people were shot, including two women who were pronounced dead at the scene and two men who were transported to a local hospital, Weathers said. Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn identified the two victims killed as Beverly Gumm, 72, and Kristina Combs, 32, the Louisville Courier Journal, part of the USA TODAY Network, reported. Of the victims injured, one sustained critical injuries while the other was reported in stable condition, according to the police chief. The suspect, who wasn't immediately identified, was shot and killed by Lexington police. Weathers said three officers fired their service weapons under department policies. "Preliminary information indicates that the suspect may have had a connection to the individuals at the church," Weathers said. "The suspect was shot by responding law enforcement and was pronounced deceased at the scene." Deadly decisions? Trump cuts gut anti-crime programs as summer violence looms Fayette County Coroner describes church as a tight-knit community The county coroner noted that the investigation remains ongoing and that a few hundred people were working the crime scene. Ginn said his office responded to the Richmond Road Baptist Church, which is about 16 miles southeast of the Blue Grass Airport and located on the outskirts of Lexington, at about 12:56 p.m. "This church was a small church," Ginn said at the news conference. "The majority of the individuals that attend the church there are related biologically, some way or another. If not, they've been friends for many, many years. So it's a very tight-knit group of people at the Richmond Baptist Church." He added that the families of the victims were at the church when the shooting occurred, and the coroner's office as able to notify them of the two deaths. True crime: Check out Witness — a library of true crime stories. Shooting involving state trooper not tied to Blue Grass Airport Earlier on July 13, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said in a social media post that a state trooper was among multiple people wounded in a series of shooting incidents. Kentucky State Police said on X that the agency and the Lexington Police Department were "able to secure the suspect," who is dead. State police confirmed that there were multiple victims at the church and that emergency personnel were at the scene. At least one trooper is "receiving medical attention," police said at the time. In a separate statement on X, the Lexington Police Department said the shooting at the church involved an officer. The police department added that the earlier shooting, in which the state trooper was shot, occurred on Terminal Drive. "While that shooting occurred on Terminal Drive, it was unrelated to the Blue Grass Airport," the police department said. Earlier, the airport reported that there was a law enforcement investigation "impacting a portion of Terminal Drive," but later said all flights and operations were operating as usual. During the news conference, Weathers reiterated that the shooting was not related to the Blue Grass Airport and did not occur inside the airport terminal. 'Please pray for everyone affected by these senseless acts of violence' Several state officials offered their condolences and prayers for those impacted by the incident. In his statement on X, Beshear asked for prayers for the victims killed and injured in the incident. "Please pray for everyone affected by these senseless acts of violence, and let's give thanks for the swift response by the Lexington Police Department and Kentucky State Police," the governor wrote. Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman said the "attack on law enforcement and people of faith in Lexington shocked the entire Commonwealth." 'Today, violence invaded the Lord's House," Coleman said in a statement. "We go to houses of worship to gather in fellowship, unite in faith, and reach toward our Creator. In light of this tragedy, we turn to God with our prayers for the injured Trooper and the victims' families." Kentucky state Sen. Amanda Mays Bledsoe said her prayers were with the community and the law enforcement agencies that responded to the shootings. "When violence strikes where we gather to worship and serve, it shakes us deeply. But even in grief, I believe in the healing power of faith, prayer, and community," Mays Bledsoe said on X. To all those hurting right now—know that you are surrounded in prayer. As Kentuckians, and as people of faith, we'll walk forward together with love, courage, and a steadfast hope that light will overcome darkness." Contributing: Charles A. Will Destiny 2's ‘Edge Of Fate' Expansion Actually Attract New Players?

Destiny 2 With no Destiny 3 anywhere on the horizon, Bungie has said that a goal of the upcoming Frontiers era, starting with the Edge of Fate expansion, would be to try to grab new and lapsed players with various forms of 'resets' and a different overall structure. The question is…will it? I know the immediate, cynical snap judgement answer from jaded community members may be 'no,' but I want to dive at least a little bit deeper than that; the way this may work, is supposed to work, and will work in different areas. A New Saga – Bungie has officially closed the book on the Light and Darkness saga, the ten-year fight against the Witness with the help of the Traveler. Bungie says this saga began in Shadowkeep, but no, it's been in motion since the literal start of the series in the first game. Now, I can in fact view this as a truly new start. It's an interesting idea to choose The Nine as a big focus of the coming story, given that if there is one group that has barely been explored in the last ten years, it's The Nine, who dip in and out and sometimes give us PvP modes or sometimes game shows with sparkly horses. It's a lot. But with The Nine, it's a fresh start, with the idea being that each have different goals and personalities in a way I'd sort of view like a pantheon of Greek gods, more so than the Hive Pantheon, even (there are a lot more, as a start). So I do think that's an interesting starting place, albeit this story is going to feature long-running characters that have anywhere from 5-10 years of history behind them, which new players will not know lest they watch 10 hours of Byf videos. FEATURED | Frase ByForbes™ Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase Pinpoint By Linkedin Guess The Category Queens By Linkedin Crown Each Region Crossclimb By Linkedin Unlock A Trivia Ladder Destiny 2 The Portal – Possibly the biggest idea that Bungie has for this new era is the use of a main landing page called The Portal. It will also have the current expansion destination planted on there, in this case, Kepler, moving away from the sometimes-beloved but admittedly confusing solar system director. The idea behind the Portal is that things are broken up very clearly into Solo, Team, PvP and then 'Hard Team' missions to play as the core activities. Not that you can't play old stuff, but that's the focus. The Portal feels like a mixed bag. It's activities to jump into fairly easily to earn current gear, but it's going to feel very weird for new players to be playing the Fireteam Ops missions pulled from the last six years with dialogue that's from old storylines they won't know at all. I also think that there will be no real engagement with the new difficulty mod system past the set ones that are in place for matchmade playlists. That system is more geared toward long-term players, but those players may not be amused that these playlists are all literally things they've been playing for years still. Destiny 2 New Gear System – It's more streamlined, I'll give it that. Tier 1-5 armor and weapons, full stop. Clear benefits to each tier, pretty clear instructions on where to get them in activities, etc. Buildcrafting is still going to be initially opaque, and keep in mind these are players that will be mission dozens and dozens of exotics if they're just coming in now. Getting new legendary gear may not be a problem, but that will. I do think this system is better than the one we have now in terms of new players taking it on, but it's not as if Destiny has become wholly uncomplicated (good luck knowing exactly what 100 different perks and mods do, and which ones are actually good). Basing the system heavily around 'New Gear' and the new tier system means that old players aren't at some wildly huge advantage in that department. Lesser Treadmill – It's just going to be less content overall, fewer ongoing seasons to grind and catch up on. The time period for releases is now more or less six full months, with some new additions in the middle. The expansion campaign will be smaller, the new destinations probably will be, the power climb is perhaps a bit less confusing. The idea is that it will be easier to hop in without feeling exceedingly behind. However – Look, I see the vision for most of this. But there is intention, and there is what happens in practice. I just think it's going to be a difficult sell to tell people now is the time to get into Destiny after ten years and almost eight years after the release of Destiny 2, no matter how things have changed. Destiny 3 would have been a much clearer break point, but I do worry about how attractive the game remains despite whatever changes exist. We may understand them as existing players, but as an outsider, this still may be too complicated. At the same time, Bungie has to retain some level of challenge and complexity to make sure the game is not too dull for the players that they're trying to hang on to, many of whom bailed after The Final Shape. We'll start to see the patterns here in a week; check back then. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, Bluesky and Instagram. Pick up my sci-fi novels the Herokiller series and The Earthborn Trilogy.

Fort Hare bodyguard's murder: 2 arrested, third suspect on the run

Police have arrested two alleged hitmen in connection with the murder of Mboneli Vesele, who was the bodyguard of Fort Hare vice chancellor and principal, Prof Sakhele Buhlungu. The Witness reports that the other suspects were handcuffed in Zakariyya Park, south of Johannesburg, earlier in June. This brings the number of suspects arrested in connection with the Fort Hare murder to 12. Ten others have been arrested since 2023, with some still in police custody. Vesele was shot and killed inside a vehicle while waiting for the vice chancellor outside the principal's home in Alice, in the Eastern Cape, on January 6, 2023. Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe says SAPS put out a call to the public for information linked to the murder. On November 15, 2024, the SAPS published the alleged hitmen's photographs and a request to the public for assistance in tracking down the three wanted suspects after obtaining a J50 warrant of arrest for Bafana Chiliza, Nkosiyazi 'Dipopoz' Maphumulo and Siphiwo 'Spijojo' Jejane. 'On June 21, the team proceeded to Zakkariya Park in Johannesburg following intelligence and information from members of the public. Two of the three [alleged] hitmen were arrested. The SAPS confirms Bafana Chiliza and Nkosiyazi Maphumulo are in custody and will be charged accordingly,' Mathe says. She adds that the suspects are expected to appear in the Alice Magistrate's Court today, and police are still searching for the third alleged hitman, Siphiwo Jejane.
