WI-W vs SA-W: West Indies Women clinches T20I series 2-1 to end 12-year drought against Proteas
West Indies Women registered its first bilateral T20I series win over South Africa Women since the start of 2013 as skipper Hayley Matthews struck a 50-ball 65 to guide her team to a six-wicket win in the third and final match at Three Ws Oval in Barbados on Monday. The Caribbean side chased down a 148-run target with nine balls to spare to complete a 2-1 series win. Shemaine Campbelle chipped in with a crucial 42 and Chinelle Henry imparted the finishing touches with an unbeaten 11-ball 20. Earlier, 20-year-old Miane Smit's unbeaten 59 that guide the Proteas to a respectable 147 for six in 20 overs after they elected to bat in the series decider. She was supported by skipper Laura Wolvaardt's 24-ball 28 but the duo couldn't form a meaningful partnership. However, Wolvaardt said her team was taking home a lot of positives from its tour of West Indies. 'Disappointed about today's result, of course, particularly as I thought we had enough runs. But we didn't get our bowling lines right – they scored too many runs square of the wicket and we got a few small things wrong,' Wolvaardt said. 'But Hayley played so well, it's difficult to get her out. Overall on the tour I thought we unearthed some good young talent who put their hands up and made a good contribution to the team,' she added. Earlier this month, South Africa had clinched the ODI leg of the tour, winning the three-match series 2-1.

Tazmin Brits' century sets up Proteas Women's series win
Tazmin Brits powered the Proteas Women to a series-clinching 166-run win (DLS method) in the third ODI against the West Indies in Barbados yesterday. Brits led the way with a blistering 101 from just 91 balls, striking eight fours and four sixes. She shared a vital opening stand with captain Laura Wolvaardt, who added 75 off 76 deliveries (seven fours), as South Africa posted 278-6 in 45.5 overs before rain brought an early end to their innings. In reply, the West Indies were restricted to 121-9 in 27.5 overs while chasing a revised DLS target of 288 from 39 overs. Seamer Masabata Klaas starred with the ball, claiming career-best figures of 4-25. Put in to bat for the third consecutive match, South Africa's openers made an aggressive start. Wolvaardt and Brits tore into the West Indian attack, racing to 83/0 in the powerplay. Both batters cruised to half-centuries, with Brits reaching her fourth ODI century in style. The breakthrough eventually came when spinner Afy Fletcher (3/53) had Brits caught, ending the 184-run opening stand in the 27th over. As South Africa passed 200, the West Indies struck with three quick wickets. Fletcher removed Wolvaardt and Nondumiso Shangase (nine), while Hayley Matthews (1-46) dismissed Suné Luus (four), leaving the tourists at 207-4. A rain delay followed shortly after Luus' dismissal. When play resumed, Marizanne Kapp (34*) anchored two useful partnerships, 27 with Sinalo Jafta (11) and 32 with Annerie Dercksen (12), before both were dismissed by Jahzara Claxton (1-48) and Aaliyah Alleyne (1-36) respectively. Kapp and Chloé Tryon helped lift South Africa to 278-6 in the 46th over before another rain interruption brought their innings to a premature end. Following more rain delays, the West Indies were eventually set a revised target of 288 in 39 overs. With the bat, the hosts suffered four early blows as Klaas and Kapp (1-7) ripped through the top order, dismissing Matthews (eight), Qiana Joseph (one), Zaida James (one) as well as Chinelle Henry (nought) for just 10 runs within four overs before the heavens opened up again. Upon resumption, Nonkululeko Mlaba (2-25) joined in, removing Jannillea Glasgow (eight) and Shemaine Campbelle (12) to leave the Windies reeling at 40-6. A defiant partnership between Alleyne (32) and Claxton (43) briefly lifted spirits, taking the total past 100. However, Klaas returned to break the stand, and Dercksen (2-1) closed out the innings with two wickets in a single over, as the hosts were restricted to 121-9. Former captain Stafanie Taylor did not bat due to an injury sustained earlier in the match. The series now shifts to the T20 format, with the first of three matches scheduled for Friday (16:00 SA time) at the Three Ws Oval. Smriti Mandhana reclaims top spot in ODI batting rankings
India vice-captain Smriti Mandhana on Tuesday moved up to the top spot in ICC ODI batting rankings for the first time since 2019 after South Africa skipper Laura Wolvaardt lost 19 rating points in the latest update. Mandhana has a total of 727 rating points followed by England captain Natalie Sciver-Brunt at 719. Wolvaardt is now third with 719 points. The next two Indian batters in the list after Mandhana are Jemimah Rodrigues and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, who are placed 14th and 15th respectively. India and England are set to face off in five T20Is and three ODIs later this month. While Mandhana has sat inside the top 10 on the list for ODI batters in recent times, the left-hander hasn't held the premier position since the start of 2019 as a drought of more than six years comes to an end. The India opener has been in excellent touch of late and scored a superb century during the final of India's recent tri-series against Sri Lanka and South Africa in Colombo. Mandhana is also ranked fourth in the list of batters in T20Is. It was Mandhana's 11th ODI century of her career and contributed to the left-hander improving her rating past Wolvaardt, who managed scores of 27 and 28 in South Africa's recent ODI contests against the West Indies.

Smriti Mandhana reclaims No. 1 ranking in ICC Women's ODI
New Delhi [India] June 17 (ANI): India star batter Smriti Mandhana has reclaimed the No.1 rank in ODI cricket after the latest update to the ICC Women's ODI Player Rankings on Tuesday, according to ICC. Mandhana rises to the top for the first time since 2019, after South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt loses 19 rating points in the rankings updated by the ICC on Tuesday. While Mandhana has sat in the top 10 on the list for ODI batters in recent times, the left-hander hasn't held the premier position since the start of 2019, as a drought of more than six years ends. Mandhana has been in excellent touch of late and scored a superb century during the final of India's recent tri-series against Sri Lanka and South Africa in Colombo. It was Mandhana's 11th ODI century of her career, contributing to the left-hander's improving rating past Wolvaardt, who managed scores of 27 and 28 in South Africa's recent ODI contests against the West Indies. Wolvaardt drops to equal second alongside England's Nat Sciver-Brunt, while fellow South Africans Tazmin Brits (up five spots to 27th) and Sune Luus (up seven places to 42nd) are among the big movers this week on the list for ODI batters. West Indies pair Shemaine Campbelle (up seven rungs to 62nd) and Qiana Joseph (up 12 spots to equal 67th) make gains on the charts for ODI batters, while teammate Afy Fletcher is the most prominent mover on the updated rankings for ODI bowlers. Fletcher claimed a four-wicket haul during the West Indies' most recent contest against South Africa at Cave Hill and the experienced spinner gained four spots and rose to 19th overall on the list for ODI bowlers that is still headed by England's Sophie Ecclestone. South African pair Nonkululeko Mlaba (up six places to 23rd) and Chloe Tryon (up six spots to 45th) also make some ground on the rankings for ODI bowlers following some strong showings against the West Indies, with Mlaba gaining 11 spots to jump to 35th overall on the list for ODI all-rounders following her four-wicket haul in the second match of that series.
