Vlogger Attacked Inside 3AC Coach Over Pricing Complaint; Video Sparks Outrage
Last Updated: After complaining about an overcharge, a passenger was assaulted on a 3AC coach. A travel vlogger, who complained about being overcharged for food and bottled drinking water, was allegedly attacked by railway pantry employees. In a video posted on X (previously Twitter), the vlogger, travelling in the third AC compartment, said he was threatened after he called out the pantry service's excessive prices. The incident happened on the Hemkunt Express (Train No. 14609). In the now-viral clip, the vlogger is seen confronting the railway staff for charging Rs 20 for a bottle of water priced at Rs 15 and Rs 20 for a Rs 10 coffee. A video of the incident has sparked outrage on social media. 'This is The Passenger Security in 3rd AC of Indian Railway #shame. When I complained about overcharging in Train by Pantry, an attempt was made to kill me," the post on X read. The vlogger also shared the train number and his PNR status in the post. The pantry staff responds with 'Yehi mila" (I only have this). He then requests the pantry staff to sell it at Rs 15. After displaying the bottle to his camera, the vlogger reads the label out loud: 'Wavy Wonder Aqua." The vlogger, later in the video, points out another example of overpricing: a cup of coffee that should cost Rs 10 according to Indian Railways' standard price is being sold for twice the amount. He then said a packet of instant noodles, which normally costs about Rs 40, was being sold for Rs 50. After that, the vlogger uses the Railways app to make a complaint and gets a response. 'Closing Remarks by Railways: Passenger has been attended and, as per the passenger, the service provider is selling local water named Wonder Aqua in the train for Rs 20. The matter has been apprised to the concerned authorities for suitable action," the response reads. The vlogger is then seen lying on his top berth with the lights off in the video. He is suddenly asked to come down by a pantry staff member, who says someone from the control room has arrived to meet him. Following several calls, the employee turns on the lights. The presence of three pantry employees is now clearly visible in the video. After that, one of the pantry employees begins to pull the vlogger's leg while the other keeps calling him out. Passengers who hear the commotion advise the pantry staff not to exacerbate the situation because a baby is sleeping. But their plea is ignored. The vlogger is then attacked by the pantry employees after they scale to his seat. Since going viral, the video has garnered over 3.6 million views so far. As public criticism escalated, Railway Seva, the official support account for Indian Railways, addressed the issue on X. Kindly look into this matter @rpfnr_ — RailwaySeva (@RailwaySeva) May 7, 2025 Later, the vlogger disclosed that the pantry staff attacked him. He had blood on his hands and clothes torn. According to the Hindustan Times, Railway Seva acknowledged that a Rs 5 lakh penalty was issued on the caterer, and a FIR had been initiated. First Published: May 08, 2025, 16:02 IST

‘Attempt to kill me': Pantry staff assaults YouTuber in 3rd AC coach for filming overcharging; video goes viral
A disturbing incident involving a travel vlogger on the Hemkunt Express has drawn widespread outrage after a video of his assault went viral. Vishal Sharma, a YouTuber known for documenting his journeys, was allegedly attacked inside the 3rd AC coach after he raised concerns about being overcharged for food and water onboard. The altercation happened on May 6, during Sharma's trip from Rishikesh to Sri Mata Vaishno Devi in Jammur and Kashmir's Katra. In his video, Sharma is seen purchasing a bottle of water inside the coach. Instead of the mandated Rail Neer bottle priced at Rs 15, he was handed a Wonder Aqua bottle and asked to pay Rs 20. When he questioned the price difference, the vendor shrugged it off, saying, 'Yahi mila hai, Sir.' Sharma also documented being charged Rs 20 for a cup of coffee – double the approved Rs 10 rate – and Rs 50 for noodles, which should have cost him Rs 40. Fed up with the overpricing, he lodged a formal complaint through the RailMadad app, not expecting what would follow. That night, while he was asleep on his upper berth, a group of men approached him aggressively. In the video he managed to record, the group is seen confronting him, demanding he comes down from the berth. One man in a green polo T-shirt was particularly aggressive, telling him, 'Neeche aao. Neeche aao bula rahe hain' (Come down, I am asking you to). Sharma is seen questioning why he should, and that he had only filed a complaint and had done nothing wrong. When he refused to get down, things escalated quickly. One of the men climbed up to his berth and began pulling at his leg, throwing punches at him as others looked on. The recording suddenly cuts off, capturing only Sharma's distressed voice. He resumed filming later, showing torn clothes and an injury sustained during the assault. Sharma shared the ordeal on YouTube and X, writing, 'When I complained about overcharging in Train by Pantry, an attempt was made to kill me.' The Railway Seva team replied, stating, 'The case is being taken with utmost seriousness. A penalty of Rs 5 lakh has been imposed on the caterer. An FIR has been lodged by GRP, Kathua. The matter remains under strict watch. Stern action will follow based on the investigation outcome.' IRCTC also responded, assuring that the matter has been escalated to the appropriate officials. A spokesperson confirmed to Hindustan Times that an investigation is currently underway. In his 28-minute vlog, Sharma further details the aftermath. He got off the train at Kathua station around 4:40 AM and sought help from the local police. However, he claims they were unhelpful and did not register an FIR. He also expressed frustration with the railway helpline, saying he received no meaningful support. A few months ago, Sharma was involved in another dispute on the Begampura Express while traveling from Varanasi to Jammu Tawi. After being charged Rs 20 for coffee without a bill, he began recording and questioned the staff. The pantry manager, irritated by the filming, offered the coffee for free, which Sharma refused. The argument escalated, and the manager allegedly slapped him during the confrontation.

Video: Man beaten in Hemkunt Express 3AC after complaining about high prices. Railways responds
A travel vlogger was assaulted aboard the Third AC coach of the Hemkunt Express after he reportedly complained about being overcharged for food and beverages during the journey. Vishal Sharma, a YouTuber known for documenting his travel experiences, captured the disturbing incident on camera as a group of men allegedly attacked him in retaliation for filing a grievance. Sharma boarded the Hemkunt Express on May 6, which operates between Rishikesh and Sri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra. While on board, he filmed himself purchasing a water bottle inside the Third AC coach. Although pantry staff are authorised to sell only Rail Neer bottles at ₹ 15, Sharma was handed a bottle of Wonder Aqua and charged ₹ 20. When he objected, the vendor responded, 'Yahi mila hai sir (This is what we have).' Sharma further documented instances of overcharging — buying coffee for ₹ 20 instead of the regulated ₹ 10, and noodles priced at ₹ 50, exceeding the prescribed ₹ 40. He lodged a complaint through the RailMadad app. The situation escalated dramatically later that night. Sharma's footage shows a group of men confronting him while he was resting on his upper berth, demanding that he climb down. One of them, wearing a green polo shirt, appeared particularly aggressive. 'Neeche aao. Neeche aao bula rahe hain,' the group insisted, despite Sharma's repeated refusals. He is heard saying that he had "done nothing wrong" and had "only filed a complaint against them." When Sharma declined to descend, the men attempted to drag him down forcibly. Shocking visuals show one individual climbing to Sharma's berth and grabbing his leg. The video cuts off abruptly as Sharma screams. In a subsequent recording, Sharma displays visible injuries, including a cut, and torn clothes — the aftermath of the assault. Posting the video on social media platforms X and YouTube, Sharma alleged, 'When I complained about overcharging in Train by Pantry , an attempt was made to kill me.' He urged railway authorities to take swift action. The Ministry of Railways has since responded, stating, 'The case is being taken with utmost seriousness. A penalty of ₹ 5 lakh has been imposed on the caterer. An FIR has been lodged by GRP, Kathua. The matter remains under strict watch. Stern action will follow based on the investigation outcome.' IRCTC also replied via its official X handle, saying, 'Sir, it is being escalated to concerned official for necessary immediate action.'
