House of David Season 2 Will Cost You an Extra $9 to Watch on Prime Video This Fall — Here's Why
If you want to see Season 2 of House of David this fall, you'll have to cough up an additional nine bucks. The faith-based drama will initially be exclusive to Wonder Project subscribers — a new subscription offering exclusively available through Amazon. That means, in addition to your Prime Video subscription, you'll have to pay for Wonder Project, which will cost $8.99/month at launch. More from TVLine TVLine's Performer of the Week: Jonathan Roumie House of David Renewed for Season 2 at Amazon Casting News: Chicago Fire Adds On Call's Brandon Larracuente, Shane Gillis to Host ESPYS and More The subscription-within-a-subscription promises 'over 1,000 hours of highly curated movies and TV series that reflect the company's mission: to entertain the world with courageous stories, inspiring hope and restoring faith in things worth believing in' — but if you don't want all of that, don't worry: exclusivity will eventually lapse, and House of David Season 2 will be available to all Prime Video subscribers at a later date. House of David 'tells the story of the ascent of the biblical figure, David (played by Michael Iskander), who eventually becomes the most renowned and celebrated king of Israel,' according the official logline. 'The series follows the once-mighty King Saul as he falls victim to his own pride. At the direction of God, the prophet Samuel anoints an unlikely, outcast teenager as the new king. As Saul loses his power over his kingdom, David finds himself on a journey to discover and fulfill his destiny, navigating love, loss, and violence in the court of the very man he's destined to replace. As one leader falls, another must rise.' Season 2, meanwhile, 'will follow the aftermath of the battle between David and Goliath and David's rise to the throne. As he navigates palace politics, his family's jealousy, and a growing romance, David steps deeper into his destiny and learns what it means to become a great leader.' House of David was renewed for a second season on March 18, two weeks out from the biblical epic's Season 1 finale, which dropped on Thursday, April 3. The Feb. 27 premiere had reportedly garnered 22 million viewers in its first 17 days of release (though Amazon has not defined how it measures a 'viewer'). 'Jon Erwin and Jon Gunn's compelling creative vision has solidified our belief in the series and we are excited to deliver more of the story to our customers,' Amazon MGM Studios head of television Vernon Sanders said in a statement at the time. 'We look forward to a continued journey with Wonder Project as we further expand our slate to encompass faith-based series.' Added Erwin and Gunn: 'We are humbled by the extraordinary reaction this show has earned from the faith audience worldwide. Thanks to them and our partners at Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, Wonder Project will bring more of the Bible and this epic saga to a global audience. Congratulations to our incredible cast and crew.' Will you pay more to binge-watch Season 2 this fall? Or will you be holding out for its eventual wide release? Drop your thoughts in a comment below. It's official: 'House of David' season 2 will cost an extra fee on top of Prime Video
Prime Video's hit biblical series "House of David" returns for season 2 this fall, but watching it will set you back an additional $9 a month on top of your existing Amazon Prime subscription. That's because Jon Erwin, the show's creator and director of 'I Can Only Imagine," is launching a new subscription streaming channel on Prime Video called the Wonder Project, set to debut this fall. It's priced at $8.99/month and will be the exclusive home of "House of David" season 2, a co-production between Wonder Project and Amazon MGM Studios. To be clear, that $8.99 per month is an added fee on top of your monthly bill for an Amazon Prime membership. A kind of subscription-within-a-subscription, Russian nesting doll situation, if you will. After premiering on Wonder Project, "House of David" season 2 will eventually become available to watch for regular Prime Video subscribers in the U.S. and globally at an undisclosed later date. "House of David" racked up over 40 million viewers worldwide when it premiered in February. Amazon confirmed it renewed "House of David" for a second season in March, which will follow the aftermath of David's battle with Goliath and his rise to the throne. At launch, Wonder Project promises 'over 1,000 hours of highly curated movies and TV series that reflect the company's mission: to entertain the world with courageous stories, inspiring hope and restoring faith in things worth believing in," the company said in a press release. Moving forward, Erwin plans to release other originals through the service as well. Subscribers will get early access to new original films and series produced by Wonder Project. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. 'We are blown away by the success of House of David and can't wait for audiences to be swept away into the epic action and drama of season 2,' said Erwin in a press release. 'Our audience is underserved and craves a destination they can trust with exceptional originals and curated movies and TV shows. With the new Wonder Project subscription on Prime Video, we will be delivering all of that and more." It's clear that giving Wonder Project subscribers early access to one of Prime Video's biggest shows of the year is the service's biggest selling point. Whether subscribers believe that's enough to justify the added cost is another story. Especially when they know that they can hold out for its eventual wider release on Prime Video. As far as subscribers are concerned, keeping select shows behind an additional paywall is likely to be seen as frustrating at best and a cash grab at worst. Granted, Prime Video already offers plenty of channels you can subscribe to for an additional fee. But this is the first time that a program originally offered through Prime Video has moved to another paid service between seasons — and something tells me the move is not going to go over well when streaming services everywhere are seeing price hikes.

Amazon Prime Video to have Wonder Project's faith-focused channel in US this fall
Faith-based content producer Wonder Project said on Tuesday it will launch a new streaming channel on Amazon's Prime Video in the United States this fall. Studios, investors and streaming services are pouring money into faith-based programs to attract viewers with diverse content in a fiercely competitive streaming market. "This launch represents another step in our ongoing efforts to ensure Prime Video offers something for everyone," said Ryan Pirozzi, head of Prime Video Marketplace. The independent studio plans to price the service at $8.99 per month, the same as Amazon Prime Video's monthly membership cost. Founded in late 2023 by former Netflix and YouTube executive Kelly Merryman Hoogstraten and filmmaker Jon Erwin, the independent studio develops series and films focused on spirituality. Wonder Project plans to launch the service with the exclusive premiere of the second season of the biblical series "House of David," produced in partnership with Amazon MGM Studios. The first season has attracted more than 40 million viewers globally since its release, the company said. The studio's investors include faith‑focused private equity and venture capital firm Sovereign's Capital, Hollywood studio Lionsgate, United Talent Agency and film producer Jason Blum.
